In the City of Ry'leh Dead Jeff Gannon Lies DreamingI've been joking around about the "World Without Hope" we inherited when the Paul Bunyon-esque folk-hero Jeff Gannon was felled, but, get this, the DU'ers and Kosmonauts are talking calling this brave new word "The Post-Gannon Era," and they're not kidding. Neither, for that matter, is the very silly Frank Rich, a case study in why columnists with nothing much to say shouldn't be forced to say nothing on a weekly schedule. Thanks to Ultron. And thanks to Ilbis for his "He Will Rise Again" remark, which put me in mind of Cthulhu, giving me a new headline for this post. posted by Ace at 03:26 PM
CommentsWell if the moon-bats think taking out Jeff (He Will Rise Again) Gannon restores balance to the criticism of the media, more power too 'em. Posted by: Iblis on March 6, 2005 04:14 PM
Boy, those Raw Story folks are right up there with the best of their ilk. The banner ads speak volumes. When I went there, I confronted something about "The Real Story about Big Coffee; What the Major Coffe Company's Aren't Telling You." Side observation about Big Coffee: Every lefty that drops his extra dollars into these "fair coffee" products is simply lining the pockets of some smart money guy who's figured out how to make money off of wingnut idiots. Has anyone ever investigated whether these "fair to farmers" products actually enriches the lives of the farmers that they claim? For that mattter, has anyone ever looked into whether stuff labeled organic is really organic? Hell, it costs more, but does the fact that the package says "certified organic" really mean that it was credibly certified? But Gannon has actually hit cult-hero status. I'm going to print a nice big picture of him and hang it on my wall. Gaze at it for a few minutes every day, and remember that I'm living in the Post-Gannon Era. I'll do that as I burn in effigy Dan Rather's ugly mug. Every day. But as it burns, I'll say a prayer for Gannon, may God bless his fallen career. KCTrio Posted by: KCTrio on March 6, 2005 04:16 PM
Anybody for a new, post-Gannon calendar? That is, we're currently living in 0 A.G. Posted by: Nicholas Kronos on March 6, 2005 04:21 PM
You know, the funny and ironic things is, the only real impact of this story was to help Jeff Gannon sell books. There's no WH connection, so it doesn't stick to Bush or Republicans. Its a measure of how desperate Dems are for a Repub scandal (and how hard one has been to find) that this has had the legs it has. Posted by: TallDave on March 6, 2005 05:57 PM
It's been a few eons since I read any of that mythos, but shouldn't that be "Dread Jeff Gannon", as in "Dread Pirate Robert"? Not to mention that He lies dreaming in R'lyeh. Just doesn't have that chilling sound without unpronounceable syllables. I just Love Craft! Posted by: Steve Lassey on March 6, 2005 09:06 PM
If Gannon is Cthulhu, what does that make KKKarl Rove? Azathoth? And if we're sticking with the Mythos, can bloggers be the Great Race? Just curious. Cheers, Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on March 6, 2005 11:20 PM
Steve, No, it's "Dead." He lies dead but dreaming at the bottom of the sea in the city of Ry'leh (or is it R'yleh?), ready for the time when the "stars are right" to walk the earth again. Posted by: ace on March 6, 2005 11:23 PM
Hey Ace, its IB not IL. Touch-typing dyslexia, I have it too. Posted by: Iblis on March 6, 2005 11:42 PM
No, Bush is Azathoth. Karl Rove is, I believe, the Crawling Chaos Nyarlathotep. Or is it the other way around? I get so confused, especially since I began hearing the rats in the walls (ever since they threw Jeff Gannon into the abyss). Iä! Iä! Cthulhu ftaghn! Posted by: Andrea Harris on March 6, 2005 11:43 PM
Recalling the old Deities & Demigods book, does this mean anyone gazing upon Gannon's face must make a saving roll or go immediately insane? If so, it explains a lot about the DU/Kos crowd. Posted by: Eric Pobirs on March 7, 2005 03:45 AM
Somebody needs to make a Jeff Gannon T-shirt in the style of the stupid Che Guevara shirts that I see on the teens today. What color should the shirt be though? Pink? Maybe black with the portrait outlined in pink. Posted by: Sue Dohnim on March 7, 2005 11:39 AM
At first, I thought this was a reference to the dreaming god in Pathways Into Darkness, a great old Mac game. Posted by: PlacidPundit on March 7, 2005 01:42 PM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
