Tariq Aziz Ready To Flip on Oil-For-Food Scammers?

I always knew this effete strutting fop would be the first canary to sing; why did it take him so long to realize that?:

David Kay — a former U.S. adviser in Iraq — spent months questioning Aziz and others. He says Aziz quickly turned on Saddam and could testify at any trial.

"He talks about direct orders to murder, to assassinate, to kill," says Kay.

NBC News has learned U.N. investigators probing corruption in the U.N. oil for food program were scheduled to question Aziz last week. That session was delayed for security reasons.

...

U.S. officials say Aziz already has implicated the French and others, claiming payoffs were made with the understanding that recipients would support Iraq on key matters before the U.N.

"He pointed to specific individuals in Russia and France, in the United States — that received favorable treatment," says David Kay.

Now, sources tell NBC News that Aziz has indicated he's finally ready to talk about alleged bribes to U.N. officials. U.N. investigators refuse to comment.

The UN "investigators" are about as eager to get to the bottom of this mystery as was Kevin Costner in No Way Out.

Don't You Ever Dare Question My Movie References in Front of the Enlisted Men Update: "Private Joker" Patton from Opinion8 dares to challenge me on my No Way Out reference, pointing out that Costner was only obliquely involved in the murder in that movie.

To which I reply:

1) You think it's easy coming up with a dipshit reference for every one of these stories?

and more importantly,

2) In No Way Out, Costner was actually long-suspected Soviet mole YURI, which was the real mystery at the heart of the movie.

So he really didn't want to get to the heart of the actual mystery, now did he?

You're young, soldier. Cocky. I see a bit of myself in you. You could be squad leader someday if you just come to terms with your problems with authority and get with the program. Straighten up and fly right, Private Joker. Why don't you come on in to join the team for the big win?

Now drop and give me forty and don't let it happen again.

But in No Way Out, Costner's character's involvement in the crime was purely incidental. Not so, for the Turds of Turtle Bay.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Come on. You think it's easy coming up with a dipshit reference for every one of these stories?

Besides, you know, he was Soviet Agent YURI, which was the real mystery at the heart of the movie.

So there.

It turns out that "No Way Out" is a remake of a movie called "The Big Clock" starring Ray Milland. His character certainly does drag his feet and attempts to forestall the investigation he is supposed to be leading because he is the prime suspect in the murder. His boss was Charles Laughton. And yes, I was turned on to this film by Lileks.

On logical grounds, Ace wins by knockout.

Posted by: Uncle Mikey on December 18, 2004 11:37 AM

Chris,

I actually read the book "The Big Clock" -- having had it seen listed as one of the best mysteries ever written -- but I had no idea No Way Out had been adapted from it. And I'd already seen No Way Out.

So I'm reading this book which has all the superficial details different from No Way Out -- the hero works at a conde nast-like magazine empire, rather than the pentago, etc. -- thinking to myself, "Jeeze, this is an awful lot like No Way Out."

Because I'm an idiot.

Posted by: ace on December 18, 2004 01:43 PM

Random "No Way Out" experience.

My buddy is flipping the channels some years ago and happens upon the beginning of the movie. He yells out excitedly "This movie is soooo bad-ass. You don't even know until the end, he's a KGB agent!"

I hadn't seen the movie.

I told him "One of two things are going to happen - either he is an agent and I'm gonna kick your ass, or he isn't an agent and I'm gonna kick your ass."

I'm curious to see if the Saddam trial gets as much publicity as the Laci Petersen murder trial.

Hopefully, they'll have a similar outcome.

Posted by: TallDave on December 18, 2004 04:07 PM

Plus, No Way Out has notorious psycho-dipshit Sean Young actually turning in a credible performance.

Unforgivable spoiler, brian. Your friend should consider self-immolation or seppuku.

Then quit you slimey fucking walrus-looking piece of shit. Get the
fuck off my obstacle

Oh sorry, I side tracked to a Full Metal Jacket tangent.

Posted by: Greg on December 20, 2004 12:24 PM

Let's just hope no one who hasn't seen the movie reads these comments, because otherwise Brian's ass is gonna get a kickin'.

Posted by: Cal on December 21, 2004 01:36 AM

Heh. I just trolled the comments, and found that I'd been gob-smacked.

I defend to the death your right to include dipshit movie asides, and I only wish I had your facility for same. In fact, your analogy was quite good.

I demur on the knockout Uncle Mikey refers to, but only because in the case of the UN, the involvement is in the crime actually being investigated, rather than a crime we won't find out about until the closing credits of the movie.

That said, suitably chastened, I've dropped and given you forty, though I had to do it over a four day period, and I hope you're OK with that.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.

Politico is reporting that multiple people have abruptly resigned from Eric Swalwell's gubernatorial campaign: "Members of senior leadership have departed the campaign, including Courtni Pugh, a strategic adviser who served as Swalwell's top liaison to organized labor groups."

So the campaign is collapsing due to the truth of the sexual harassment allegations.
That hissing sound you hear is the air going out of the Swalwell campaign. UPDATE: No it wasn't, it was just Swalwell one-cheek-sneaking out a fart on camera
