My roommate lived in Austria for a year, and I've spoken with people in England about this. Apparently their attitude is that here in the US it's more "culturally diversified" so a lot of this shit just doesnt happen in our backyards. Over there however, it's all in your face all the time. Interesting, uplifting, and yet sad at the same time that their government refused to do anything about it until vigilante's start roaming the streets. Makes you wonder - are they more concerned about keeping "whitey" in line, or the muslim murderers.

Even the "good" Muslims are in danger in Europe though. America has a long history now of being quite racially diverse and dealing with racial issues. Europe's recent history on race and ethnicity isn't so good. They're much more homogenous, which means it will be much easier to devolve into Us v. Them.

I can't imagine though the mind-set that let it reach this point. That mayor in Amsterdam, really, what was he thinking?

The line was crossed with Theo van Gogh's assassination. The vice prime minister declared "war" on islamitic extremists in the Netherlands past Saturday.

Lastango, our government is far less divided about Iraq than your government as far as what I'm hearing from the US. Our +1000 guys and women deployed in Iraq are still there, doing their job every day, and a large majority of our government supports them being there.
