Glowing Citation a "Total Mystery" to Former Navy Secretary

How did that dubious post-1981 citation get added to John Forbes Kerry's already-dubious Silver Star? The man whose signature appears at the end of the citation ostensibly granting it (post 1981, it should be noted), says he hasn't a clue who "awarded" Kerry this additional tribute. But he says it wasn't himself:

Former Navy Secretary John Lehman has no idea where a Silver Star citation displayed on Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's campaign Web site came from, he said Friday. The citation appears over Lehman's signature.

"It is a total mystery to me. I never saw it. I never signed it. I never approved it. And the additional language it contains was not written by me," he said.

The additional language varied from the two previous citations, signed first by Adm. Elmo Zumwalt and then Adm. John Hyland, which themselves differ. The new material added in the Lehman citation reads in part: "By his brave actions, bold initiative, and unwavering devotion to duty, Lieutenant (jg) Kerry reflected great credit upon himself...."

A tiny bit more at the link.

Proposed working theory:

Maybe Kerry had his medals re-issued during Lehman's tenure b/c he really DID throw the originals over the fence, just as he earlier claimed. Later, realizing how that might look if he were to -- oh, I don't know -- some day run for the presidency, he ordered up another set, complete with the fab new endorsements. The new language probably shouldn't have been added, but given that he's a rich-as-hell senator with high-falutin' friends and all, it would've been a snap to dress things up a little.

Turns out it really IS good to be the king!

I don't think they send you the physical medals when the citation is reissued. They also don't usually change the wording on the citation.

Kerry is doomed.

If this issue was related to George Bush, the media would be going wild, but it's not valid against Kerry? Apparently, America is tired of the SwiftboatVets and Fox News.
