Kerry's Media Defenders Begin Plan C

Plan A -- suppress the story and hope that no one hears about it -- didn't work.

Plan B -- "discredit" the SwiftVets using selective evidence and tendentious conclusions -- isn't cutting the mustard.

Plan C is now being put into effect. Remember when Clinton's own Plan A and Plan B stopped working, and the media began instructing us that lying was perfectly normal, natural, and excusable?

Plan C for defending Kerry is chalking up these starkly-different accounts to innocent and unresolvable differences in memories.

Who can say for sure what really happened? It's once again time to MoveOn (TM).

Nice editorial apology for Kerry's lies. Oh, wait, that was an AP news story.

All well and good, but didn't Kerry keep a journal? Are we to believe that he pulled a Josh Steiner and lied to his own diary? Did Bob Dole and George H.W. Bush have problems with this? What about George McGovern and the real JFK? Combat vets all. They didn't need excuses for this kind of stuff because they never pulled the vote-for-me-because-I-am-a-war-hero crap.

So if you can't remember (within 50 miles) which country you were in on Christmas Eve long enough to write it down in your DAILY journal, are you too forgetful to be President?

Ace, I love your blog. You have become a daily habit. ;)

Those are some good comments too. All excellent points.

I'm starting to wonder what the swift vets would look like in a dress.

Posted by: McGroarty on August 28, 2004 04:46 PM

If you read Peter Beinart's column today (in the POST, of all places) you'll see an alternate Plan C: just come out and SAY all the Swift Vet claims have been debunked in all major newspapers. Oh, and John Kerry's testimony before the Senate in 1971 was 100% accurate, so don't bother attacking him on that, either.

Oy.

Time Magazine and Newsweek editors are on with Tim Russert right now blaming the Bush campaign for being behind the Swift Boat Vets ads. They're telling Russert the charges have all been debunked because the Swiftvets had defended Kerry in the past. That's right, they had come to his defense when he was being accused of war crimes, because they don't believe he committed them either. But Kerry still believes everyone else did, and when they found that out in his new book, they decided that SOB shouldn't be CofC.

Of Course the media isn't interested in looking at these facts.

It's like playing a chessgame against a 5 year old. No matter how much better you are at the game, he always wins because he can simply change the rules to suit his needs at any point. The GOP has two rows of pawns facing the DNC's two rows of pieces that do whatever the hell they want. Truth, rules, fair play, honor, honesty, none of them matter.

Maybe a better analogy would be playing poker against someone with a stacked deck. And you know it's stacked. But anytime someone shouts, "Hey, the fuckin deck is stacked!" you just get laughed at.

Or something like that. Is my frustration showing yet?

Ace- it _would_ be time to MoveOn.org from the Swifties, but Kerry keeps bringing them up:
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/29/kerry.firstlady/index.html

> The Kerry campaign Sunday criticized first lady Laura Bush
> for what the campaign called her "statement in support of the
> swift boat smear ads."

Does Kerry _really_ want to bring Laura into this? She's got 70%+ approval and implicitly endorsed the Swifties:

> In the interview she is asked, "Do you think these swift boat
>ads are unfair to John Kerry?"
>
> "Not really," she replies. "There have been millions of terrible
> ads against my husband."

Unreal.
