Kerry: I Question the "Timing" of Bush's Troop MovesBut of course you do, darling. Is this the extent of the liberal foreign-policy critique? Is everything a quibble over timing-- debating not whether actions should be undertaken, but whether they should be undertaken now or three months hence? posted by Ace at 06:21 PM
CommentsI just read that article via drudge, and had to come here. Do the dems know how much of a parody they are, or do they think so little of the public that they assume we won't notice? Posted by: Trevor on August 16, 2004 06:59 PM
- "This ill-conceived move and its timing seem politically motivated rather than designed to strengthen our national security," Clark said. - "Our" national security, or THEIRS? I don't know about you Clark, but I figure a better idea would be to place some of our forces in areas that directly concern us, mainly the former eastern Soviet-bloc nations [some of which are potential powder kegs and infested with terrorist groups], the Middle East, and soon Africa.
And they were equally unhappy while we have troops stationed there. Posted by: Cpl. Menno on August 16, 2004 07:04 PM
Astounding. Here I was getting all bored with the constant "timing" jokes here, at Allah's page, etc. And then Kerry chucks another log on the fire. Sigh. When libs parody themselves, it makes it awfully hard to come up with good material. And re: Cpl. Menno's comments, it's awfully hard to care what Germany thinks about the move when Germany is so disinterested in actually acting like one of our allies. Besides, from whom are we protecting them, at this point? Posted by: Sobek on August 16, 2004 07:08 PM
Sobek, Here's how I put it, in regards to another topic, on another blog: "If I wanted to lampoon the left, I'd take all of the points they try to make, exaggerate them to the extreme, and express them in an incoherent, illogical rambling mess that noone could possibly take seriously. In other words, I'd quote them verbatim." Posted by: Brian B on August 16, 2004 07:56 PM
So let me see if I understand: Democrats are now FOR extensive US military presence overseas. They certainly could have saved Reagen a lot of headaches if they'd been clear about this all along. Next thing you know, they'll want us to send intermediate range nukes to Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Posted by: Clark on August 16, 2004 08:29 PM
Up is down. Left is right. I love it. Posted by: Dave in Texas on August 16, 2004 08:48 PM
I'm waiting to see John Kerry announce that the environment is for suckers and that PETA is idiotic. Posted by: Sobek on August 16, 2004 08:52 PM
Gotta luv it! Think about this, the untold billions taken from the EU economy. Troopers, their families, DODDS and their families, PMC's and their families, AAFES stores, gas stations and families. We closed a few bases in the late 80's early 90's and the wailing and gnashing of teeth over THEIR local economies was deafening. Those Germans, hated us loved our dollars. 'Tag, give us your wallets, you won't be needing them, we're pulling up stakes and haulin' ass - AMF! Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. They all speak American-English, but don't understand it, hence, "pay backs a bitch" had no meaning until now. And those poor Koreans, their favorite form of recreation(violent protesting against American occupation) what will they do now? Midnight basketball, study up on communism, fill out emigration forms for anywhere but here, ask John Kerry "wuh hoppin?". Posted by: Mr. Bad Example on August 17, 2004 01:41 AM

The Short Unhappy Life of a Russian Soldier: Why recruits die in 20-30 minutes
Interesting video. Some key parts: drones were responsible for 70-80% of all battlefield deaths in mid-2025, and I bet it's higher now. The Russian army is incredibly corrupt. Men get assigned to the most dangerous frontline units, the "Storm" units, unless they pay a superior $2,000 to be assigned to a different unit. Furthermore, there is often no real training for recruits -- commanders pocket the money that would have gone towards fuel and ammo costs incurred during training. Much "training" consists just of taking a single picture of soldiers doing something soldier-y, like fording a river, and publishing that as proof that the training was done. Even when it is done, training is only two weeks long.

Update to the video of a Russian soldier being spun around and thrown by the machinegun he was operating: The soldier was testing an old, archaic Russian machinegun intended to be mounted to a helicopter. The old gun was pressed into service as a possible anti-drone gun. The Russian army is generally depleted and being forced to bring a lot of old, unreliable weapons and platforms to the front.

FDA is providing an update regarding the sample of lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms de Mexico which was reported positive on July 18, 2026. Due to the complexity in detection of Cyclospora, FDA laboratory experts re-reviewed the sample results and have concluded that the finding does not represent true amplification and should be considered a false positive. Information about the sample has been removed from the July 18, 2026, update below. FDA has notified Taylor Farms and continues working with the firm to ensure product implicated in this outbreak has been removed from the market.
