Mexican Invasion -- Literally (Almost)

Members of the Mexican Army have repeatedly crossed into US territory to protect drug dealers:

In one 2000 incident, more than 16 Mexican soldiers were arrested by border agents in a small town west of El Paso, in Santa Teresa, N.M., after Mexican soldiers fired on the agents, said T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a union representing the agents.

None of the agents was injured in the gun battle, and U.S. State Department officials forced the border agents to release the soldiers and return them to Mexico with their weapons, Bonner added.

And that's not the only documented incident, of course. There have been over 200 incursions of Mexican military members into US territory since 1996. And I don't mean as tourists.

We need to start looking at Mexico as a hostile entity. The Mexican government does not respect our soverignty, cynically taking advantage of our generosity and compassion, then demanding even more concessions from us, without offering us anything.

When military units violate a state's border, the two states are, if I understand international law correctly, de facto at war. This must be addressed - it is unacceptable.

QUAGMIRE!

This has been going on for awhile but no one gave a shit except the poor law enforcement officers being shot at. Now the federal/state governments are pretending to be responsive. I'm sure their, cough, solution, cough, will be a guest worker program. We're getting screwed by both parties.

I knew a guy who worked with the DEA out of Texas, and you would not believe some of the crap Mexico has pulled over the years. The border between Laredo and Nuevo Lardeo is basically a demilitarized zone, where no American cop dare go unless heavily armed and backed up.

Mexican Federales, like the Mexican Army, are notoriously bent -- most of the senior officers in both organizations have been bought off by the cartels to either look the other way or actively aid in the drug/immigrant smuggling trade.

The sad thing here is the immigrants themselves. It's hard to hate them -- they come from a country where their lives are so miserable and future-less that they prefer to court death just to get to America, where all they are assured of (if they survive) is a menial low-paying job. And they jump at the chance. Women are hardest hit; one guy I talked to said that being pretty was nothing but a curse to a Mexican woman. Rape and sexual exploitation are endemic down there -- you would be sad and enraged to see what is going on.

I am all for enforcement of immigration statues. Build a fence, increase the number of border-patrol agents, and send the U.S. Army down to make sure the Mexican "authorities" don't get up to dickens.

Failing that...just annex Mexico. Shit, half of their citizens are already here anyway.

I think we should build a giant catapult so that we can return these poor, wayward "soldiers" back to their home country (with their weapons) in the manner they deserve.

Anybody know about any research into the maximum range of a catapult? Think we can hit Mexico City from Texas? Wanna try anyway?

I sure hope Bill Richardson wins the Democratic nomination for president next time around. He is excatly the kind of weanie we need them to run. His foreign policy credentials of allowing Mexican's to thumb their noses at our soverignty because they are brown will make him unbeatable at the caucuses, and a miserable failure in the general election.

This is, um, huge. We've been invaded by a foreign military and no one seems to give a crap.

Mythbusters - Episode 35: Border Slingshot
Is it feasible to fly over the frontier? In this episode, Adam and Jamie take on the myth that illegal immigrants are firing themselves 200 yards across the border and into the United States with a slingshot so accurate, it can land the human projectiles safely on a carefully placed mattress. Border patrols are reportedly baffled — can the MythBusters' handbuilt human-sized slingshot solve the puzzle?

You racists! These poor Mexican soldiers are only coming here for a better life and to do jobs fat Americans won't do. Invasion? It's a RECLAMATION!!

wiserbud, that was a great Mythbusters. Almost as good as the civil war multi-stage rocket.

A key right The People give to the Government is the protection of the border.

Tomorrow is March 25th, "Tolkien Reading Day," because March 25th is the day when the Ring is destroyed in the book. I think I'm going to start the Hobbit tomorrow and read all four books this time.
The only bad part of the trilogy are the Frodo/Sam chapters in The Two Towers. They're repetitive, slow, and mostly about the weather and terrain. But most everything else is good. Weirdly, the Frodo-Sam chapters in Return of the King are exciting and action-packed and among the best in the trilogy. (Though the chapters with everyone else in Return of the King get pretty slow again. Mostly people talking about marching towards war, and then marching towards war.)

AI is doing a lot of the work in analyzing images to find the exact hiding place of the launchers. Counter-strikes are now coming in four hours after a launch, whereas previously it might have taken days for humans to go over the imagery and data.

[A]n asshole is somebody who looks at a painting of two toddlers doing something totally normal for toddlers and decides that it represents homosexuality and then thinks that publicly saying that is somehow edgy and clever. Instead it is doing what we accuse the Left of, that is sexualizing young children. If that describes you, own it.

Reports: The A-10 Thunderbolt, better known as The Warthog, has been unleashed on Iran
It's a heavily armored (the pilot sits in a titanim bathtub) slow-and-low loitering plane with a massive minigun firing depleted uranium rounds. The capability it brings is the ability to just fly big circles over the country waiting for a target to present itself. This is a weapons platform for eliminating vehicles and personnel. Its first task might be strafing the seas, clearing out any remaining attack boats and minelayers.
Update: My ballpark estimate for a reasonable cost for a wildlife overpass (suitably padded to sate the thirst of Democrat grifters) was $15 million. Turns out, that was a good estimate. That's how much it cost Denver to build one.
