Cox's one true error here was apparently skwering the MSM. Instead of anyalysis, I shall offer the example of an episode of the updated "Battlestar Galactica".

In the episode "Bastile", Apollo has just been assigned as the military laison to the President. Obviously, his father Adama is not pleased. He asks Apollo which side he is on. Apollo gets angry and says that he's not on either side and tromps off. Adama wryly remarks that it's only because he hasn't picked one yet.

That's the situation Cox is in, or at least was in. She walked the line between the liberal elite and new media. In her book, it ultimately looks like she picks the side of new media, or at least pisses off the MSM to the point where she might as well have. That's a mistake. Who's going to give her book positive spin? Instapundit? Daily Kos? Neither of them care a lot. Everyone else either doesn't like her much or will just download her book off of BitTorrent.

Anyway, for awhile Apollo does manage to find a way to walk between President Roslin and Commander Adama, but he gets the holy crap kicked out of him first. I vaguely wonder if the same thing will metaphorically happen to Cox?

I don't think Anikin's Sith/Jedi line-walking is as good an example. I mean, it works and all. But Anikin ultimately falls and falls hard to the Sith. Apollo keeps wallowing between the two and Cox will probably end up doing the same thing.

On the other hand it does work on another level in describing Cox's core interests which are pretty well alinged with the MSM. Anikin was pretty much destined to go the way of the Sith. I'm sure we all saw the outtakes on the Phantom Meance DvD where Ani gets into a fight with Greedo, right? I mean, sure, it goes against Greedo's established background in the book "Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina" and I simply KNOW that bothers all of you as much as it does me, but let's put that aside for now.

But that scene in essence does spell out Cox's problem. Her husband and all of her connections are core MSMers. Taking shots at them was stupid, but she isn't going to do anything really dumb like pass on a book deal or keep blogging at the expense of a book tour. Her sympathies are MSM. But I'm guessing she's going to go the Apollo route and try to hold on to her blogging street cred rather than the Ani route and start slamming gawker.com in a follow up book.

He doesn't fall hard! He cries like a BITCH! at the end. Anikin sounds like some sort of slutty intern in washington taking it up the launch ramp for $50 bucks just so that she could say she did! Only to then later insinuate that it was all for personal reasons by recalling facts that couldn't possibly have been known, or accepted by the crying whiny Anikin/as Vader, by not ONCE mourning his beloved Padme' when he realized he was a Father.

In essence. Whatserslut ain't no Anikin, and Vader was a badass, till Lucas proved he was an artistic wuss. And everything that Wonkette gets praised for, I got the crap beat out of me for when I was 12.
