The NYT, Undermining The War Effort And Darned Proud Of It

As Woody Allen said in Sleeper, "The New York Times is an organization that helps terrorists kill innocent civilians. Sort of as a public service."

Remember how liberals, in particular, blasted the Bush Administration for failing to engage the Muslim world through "public diplomacy" and the like?

Well, the Bush Administration did just that in Iraq, paying Muslim Sunni scholars to help them craft propaganda/information pieces to help defuse the insurgency.

The Times writes this up as if it's something nefarious, and also, you know, pretty much ends the usefulness of the program entirely.

Internal company financial records show that Lincoln spent about $144,000 on the program from May to September. It is unclear how much of this money, if any, went to the religious scholars, whose identities could not be learned.

Although, apparently, they tried to learn those names. To what end? To print their names so that they could be murdered?

The amount is a tiny portion of the contracts, worth tens of millions, that Lincoln has received from the military for "information operations," but the effort is especially sensitive.

Yes, it is especially sensitive. Propaganda efforts always are. And thank you so much for ratting us out.

How do they justify running a piece like this when they cannot even hint at what could be unethical, let alone illegal, about it? It's a nothing little fart of a story that does nothing to inform Americans (it's common sense that we'd be doing this, after all) and only serves the purposes of Al Qaeda.

So, Sunni clerics were paid by the US to help us. And yet the NYT continues to help Al Qaeda at no charge.

Thanks to Allah.

I don't care if they have the "right" to publish this stuff. They're gonna get people killed, if they haven't already.
Somebody should remind those jokers that the Islamisicits atheistic libs like themselves even more than Christian conservatives.

we have the CIA, Israel has the Mossad, and the insurgents have the NYT

Posted by: ramms on January 2, 2006 12:46 AM

Nooo. The NYT has the CIA, NSA and other assorted lib lifer beaurucrats at thier beck and call. Millions of dollars and years of effort during the cold war were invested placing commu, er intellectuals in institutions of higher learning , the main stream media and the guvment. Alger Hiss is a hero to them.

Posted by: Dennis on January 2, 2006 01:04 AM

There was a story about a Yemeni imam a while back who basically argued and explained to captured al-Qaeda terrorists about why terrorism isn't jihad or an acceptable practice for pious Muslims. And hearing it from another Muslim who was way more learned than them, he's able to persuade the captured terrorists to give up and go back to normal life. And they dont just pretend to buy it and then disappear back into the terrorist jihad.

This approach really struck me as the way to do the propaganda thing, and that we should get this guy on our side to consult and advise us in propaganda. But naturally they'd reject the word if it came from the jihad, hence the need for Muslim clerics to assist.

And the NY Times finds such a common-sense strategy to if not win, but defuse minds, objectionable or corrupt? I think they basically want us to lose, because it'd cast a stigma on Bush and to hell with winning the war or stopping the terrorism threat facing America.

Uh oh, looks like the effort has a recividism rate. Damn.

Perhaps a public demonstration of displeasure would seem to be in order, like perhaps yanking all NYT reporters' press passes to federal venues.

Chuck the treacherous bastards out on their ears. 50% of America would applaud.

Posted by: Russ on January 2, 2006 01:46 AM

Hey Ace, how about a top ten NYT resolutions for the new year?

Posted by: Uncle Jefe on January 2, 2006 02:03 AM

Russ: I would prefer forced deportation of NYT's editorial staff to their spiritual bretheren.

I'm sure that they would feel more at home with the "new minutemen", who they have done so much for, than they do in Mr. Bush's America. I'm also sure that the absence of all of that Red-State patriotism would come as a relief.

Posted by: DaveP. on January 2, 2006 02:03 AM

Speaking of the NYT and propaganda...
I just finished listening to CBS5 SF Bay Area news say "President Bush continues to vehemently defend his spying on Americans".
These fucks are unreal.

Big Media Quislings are the greatest single threat twe have to our freedom. They need to go out of business asap.

Posted by: max on January 2, 2006 07:28 AM

Those poor Sunnis--first they can't control the government any more because of the unfair fact that they are only 20% of the poplulation and now they're being viciously exploited by the American military, which is paying them to tell the truth.

Well, at least the New York Times seems to understand their point of view.

Posted by: Academic Elephant on January 2, 2006 08:37 AM

This is the fruit of W's not providing steady on going high profile leadership on the war.
The quisling poltroons always emerge in a leadership vacuum, and the NYT and defeatocrats are certainly quisling poltroons.
We on the right who got the war from day one and are not historical illiterates as are the lefty hacks in the MSM have been relegated to the blogosphere, where we win the debates on facts but meanwhile the likes of Mary Mapes are out selling books based on telling demonstrated lies, and still getting complete softball access to the pubolic square.
Not only do the quislings want to shut this war down, they want to roll back even the security programs we had prior to 911.
Their denial has been allowed to fester in the public square for so long that nothing short of the death of W will please them.
If they end the programs and we are attacked again, it is W's fault. If the programs stay in and we are not attacked, it is proof they were not needed.
I don't know the route out of this dysfunction, but I do know it will require the President to act Presidential and to be seen doing it.
The little bit he has done since the NYT decided to take over the war effort has boosted his poll ratings signficantly.
The American people in large majorites do get this war, and do want victory.
The small but all too powerful minority in contgrol the DNC and the MSM do not get it.
The only strategy is to have the President show his lawful roll and escercise his lawful authority.
Katrina demonstrates the MSM/DNC desire and ability to lie over any issue that will take us down.
Frankly it is up tothe President to overcome this.
We can only do so much.

So, Sunni clerics were paid by the US to help us. And yet the NYT continues to help Al Qaeda at no charge.
I guess that makes us "whores" and the NYT a "Slut".
Posted by: Sinner on January 2, 2006 09:38 AM

Not surprising since the New York Times with the help on WALTER DURANTY was up there glorifying JOE STALIN and FIDEL CASTRO throught the pages of this left-wing rag and frankly we should start refuring to it as the New York Pravda and its new logo should be ALL THE PROPEGANDA THATS FIT TO PRINT

Posted by: spurwing plover on January 2, 2006 10:27 AM

I think that the Lincoln Group has a leak problem of their own

Posted by: on January 2, 2006 12:54 PM

I'm starting to wonder if some of the MSM aren't in the process of becoming the new JOE Mcarthy. Will there come a time when a "Have you no shame Senator" moment will collapse one or more of the current elite MSM outlets? I don't know, but it may well be that the MSM is in much worse shape and their existence much more fragile than anyone now realizes. Have you considered how desperate the L.A. Times must have been to fire long time left wing firebrand Scheer and hire a well known righty,Goldberg? It's starting to look as if mere survival is all the L.A. Times is hoping for, but may not be able to accomplish. And maybe the N.Y. Times is too far gone to even attempt to survive; continuing its suicidal path to the very end without so much as one thought about a different survival stategy. "Dust bin of history" seems to be their not very distant future.

All Things Beautiful TrackBack Another Stab From The New York 'Aids The Enemy' Times

"Muslim Scholars Were Paid to Aid U.S. Propaganda' is the title of today's New York 'Aids The Enemy' Times. Could have well been written by Al-Jazeera, starting with the title. Unbelievable. I have no idea what harted driven anti-American propaganda has taken them to this new all time low.....As Ace reminds us: "Woody Allen said in Sleeper, "The New York Times is an organization that helps terrorists kill innocent civilians. Sort of as a public service."

Posted by: Alexandra on January 2, 2006 01:54 PM

Why haven't these people been prosecuted yet?

Hopefully the NSA leak probe will lead to some hard prison time for reporters, inspiring them to be a tad more loyal to their country, if for no other reason than to stay free.

Posted by: John on January 2, 2006 04:23 PM

There are Loyal Americans who are NOT YET READY to permanently ELIMINATE the Traitors. We will see what the courts do FIRST. After the Leaker's and Reporter's trials, additional action may, or may not be required. I am NOT really optimistic that Treason can be stopped by anything short of Death for the Leakers and Reporters.

Posted by: leaddog2 on January 2, 2006 06:26 PM

How long are these pathetic right wing morons going to continue blaming the NYT for what Bush has done to our country??

*We have Americans dying every day because Bush and his cadre of necons thought they could dance their way into Iraq and gobble up all that black gold...

* We just helped create a "democracy" made up of religious radicals who are intent upon killing as many of us as they can...

*Our own government is wiretapping its citizens...

*A barrel of oil has gone from $27 to over $60...

*The cost of heating oil, through the roof...

*The cost of drugs for our elderly has skyrocketing...

* And not aword from these same Bush sycophants about why little Georgie hasn't brought Osama down...you know, they guy our War President said he was going to bring down..."dead or alive"??

Maybe if these "patriotic" wingnuts could drag their heads out of Bush's ass long enough to actually think about what's happened over the past 5 years they'd understand just how bad things have really become...and admit that it's not because of the NYT or any other news organization.

A country once revered by all...and look at us now.

Yes, it was all about cheap oil, which isn't cheap these days, which is Bush's fault, of course, for getting us into an illegal, immoral war to get cheap oil.

Ace, can we keep this one? It's extraordinarily stupid, even for a troll, and therefore should be quite entertaining. I'm guessing that if we put it in a big glass jar and watch it for awhile it'll eventually eat its own feces.

Posted by: The Warden on January 2, 2006 07:20 PM

Why should we be spreading propaganda anyway? There's a reason Common Sense is revered here in America and the contemporary British propaganda is not.

Posted by: scarshapedstar on January 2, 2006 07:27 PM

Its kinda neat how trolls just pick random things out. I mean, of course, we have been losing the GWOT since we first went to Afghanistan, so that's a given. But eventually there's always another ass pulled nugget aggressively fronted as "proof, man."
Good job on the price of drugs for the elderly skyrocketing. I wonder, what is a skyrocket? Does it double in value every week? month? (is it troll chearting to repeat the oil problem?) I imagine if I go to target right now, the price of aspirin, for the elderly, will be shocking. You know, 20 years ago, MRIs were free, because they didn't exist. That's like an infinity increase in price. I can only guess that as a result of the price of drugs, for the elderly, skyrocketing, that our lifespans will be skyrocket-plummeting.

The Warden says:
"Yes, it was all about cheap oil, which isn't cheap these days, which is Bush's fault, of course, for getting us into an illegal, immoral war to get cheap oil."

Well...first of all, I NEVER said it was ALL about "cheap oil," I merely mentioned the fact that oil has tripled in price since we went in...and I remember Cheney an Wolfie mentioning all that OIL as being a way we were going to PAY for the fucking war...or...do you actually ever read a newspaper?? (And, if you do believe OIL wasn't one of their major reasons...you still have that pointy little head of yours up Bush's ass.)

Second, when you say " illegal, immoral war"...are you admitting to the fact that this was and still is exactly that?

And last, but certainly NOT least...I see no one has addressed the disappearance of Osama and our inability to hunt him down, "dead or alive."

That's the thing with you wingnuts...you talk the talk, but when up against it...you pussy out with the same old right wing bullshit talking points Bush shoves down everybody's throats...with the help of Rush and the gang.

C'mon, big mouth...tell us about all the GOOD things that Bush has brought America...oh, and please do us a favor and leave out the crap about how we haven't been attacked on American soil since 9/11...because...between the mini-attack in 1994, we went 7 years without any such attack...right up until Georgie took over and ignored every warning that came his way.

It's really disgusting to hear people continuing to defend this inept little creep...who's embarrassed our country from day one.

Posted by: on January 2, 2006 08:04 PM

No, joeindc44..."skyrocket" doesn't mean drug prices are doubling every week...but it does mean that they've increased in price (not VALUE, dipstick) more under this idiot's presidentcy than any other...in such a short period of time. 17% over the past 2 years.

Maybe you should discuss this with your mother and father or grandmother and grandfather and see what they have to say.

My mother is 84 and her monthly "out of pocket"tab comes to about $1,000, with Medicare and AARP and she's in good health.

You're another one of the uneducated and uninformed wingnuts who really needs to read more...and talk less.

Posted by: on January 2, 2006 08:10 PM

I see no one has addressed the disappearance of Osama and our inability to hunt him down

So where is he? The best guess is that he's in the Pakistani mountains, beyond our reach. Another guess (much more speculative) is that he's in Iran - again, beyond our reach. So we have to wait for the Pakistanis to catch him, or for the Iranis to turn him over. So we wait, hope for a mistake, and continue to dismantle his network.

Duh. I can't believe you still traffic in that specious argument.

Posted by: geoff on January 2, 2006 08:11 PM

Sorry...that post to joeindc44 was by me, not January 2...

Posted by: Geno on January 2, 2006 08:13 PM

geoff...Ohhhhhhh, so now we're just going to "continue to dismantle his network"...

Did Rush tell you that? Hannity? Savage? COulter? Bushie himself??

And, boy it sure seems to be working out for us. There haven't been more than 2-3,000 bombings over the past year in Iraq alone...and of course, we have Madrid, Bali, twice, London...

And just think of how things would be if we weren't hard at work doing this "dismantling"...

Posted by: Geno on January 2, 2006 08:17 PM

There haven't been more than 2-3,000 bombings over the past year in Iraq alone...and of course, we have Madrid, Bali, twice, London...

Note that this says nothing about the status of the network itself. More evidence of lax liberal 'research.' Find a piece of information that seems to fit your worldview and call that fact-based analysis. Not the slightest effort to drill down or look at other facets of the situation. It's ridiculous.

Posted by: geoff on January 2, 2006 08:23 PM

Geno, you ignorant slut.
"Embarrassed our country"
Go back to your buddy carter and the hostage crisis, where it all began.
And Lord knows, being struck time and again during the 90's, with our country's only response being to fling missiles at sand dunes.
Yeah, while your boy clinton was working on his next blow job, Osama was working on his next blow-up job.
Not just a fucking embarrassment, but the loss of thousands of our fellow citizens.
Troll on, tinfoil boy.

Posted by: Uncle Jefe on January 2, 2006 08:26 PM

But let's end this inanity on a positive note. What's your plan for getting Osama?

Posted by: geoff on January 2, 2006 08:32 PM

Dearest geoff & Uncle Jefe (sounds like a radio show),
Neither of you provide a shred of evidence Bush has done anything to make our country better or more respected.

(And I really love it when people bring up Carter, as if HE'S the reason we're buried in Iraq...esoecially considering that, right now, the asshole who handled the hostage program for the Iranians is...LEADING THEIR COUNTRY RIGHT NOW...telling the world hat Israel should be "wiped off the map," with absolutely NO repercussions from our boy in the white house...but, c'mon, putz...how many years has it been since Carter had anything to say about anything??)

I can get this right wing bullshit via the radio or Fox any day of the week.

Again: Let's go wingers...list the things Bush has done to make our country BETTER than it was the day he took office.

GFL.

Geno,

Hello!

Posted by: Timmy in the Well on January 2, 2006 08:58 PM

Troll says:
Bush and his cadre of necons thought they could dance their way into Iraq and gobble up all that black gold...

Troll backtracks:
I NEVER said it was ALL about "cheap oil,"

Troll changes the argument:
I remember Cheney an Wolfie mentioning all that OIL as being a way we were going to PAY for the fucking war...or...

In your first statement you use the phrase gobble up all that black gold to imply that Bush took us to war to benefit himself and/or his oil buddies. Of course, this is inconsistent with complaint that oil prices are up. When called on it, you try to change your original complaint that Iraqi oil revenues aren't paying for the war as promised.

This is why I treat shitbag trolls like yourself with the contempt that you deserve. Right out of the gate, I've caught you dissembling, and now you demand that I address the rest of your charges? Eat shit, you petulant child. You are undeserving of my time, effort, or civility. I only debate with adults.

Posted by: The Warden on January 2, 2006 09:00 PM

once again, The Warden displays his horrible inability to "placate".

...for his next trick, he'll be using a D8 Caterpillar and two Mack trucks to pull Geno's head out of his a$$.

Posted by: Russ from Winterset on January 2, 2006 09:06 PM

Look, Warden...(you're not Beaver's dad, are you?)...you can blather on all you want, but anybody with a fucking brain knows G.W., Wolfie, Cheney and the rest of the bunch didn't go into Iraq bcause they love to "nation build."

And if you don't think OIL played into the equation, you're even dumber than I thought...and that's pretty tough threshold to cross. As for prices, take a stroll through the prices of oil over the past 20 years and show me the last time they spiked like this, for such an extended period of time.

Like I asked before and will ask again: If Bush is such a terrific leader...list what's BETTER TODAY...than the day he took office.

Let's see if you wingnuts can drag those heads out Georie's ass long enough to come up with anything.

And again...GFL.

Posted by: Geno on January 2, 2006 09:11 PM

Geno, on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your relationship with your dad?

Posted by: Timmy in the Well on January 2, 2006 09:14 PM

Troll tries to cover his tracks by generalizing about oil when his first assertion was specifically an implication that Bush overthrew Hussein to enrich his oil buddies:

And if you don't think OIL played into the equation, you're even dumber than I thought

I like how the troll capitalizes the word oil for extra impact. What a fuckin 'tard.

Keep flailing, bitch. Maybe if you create enough white noise, no one will notice your dishonesty, right?

Posted by: The Warden on January 2, 2006 09:18 PM

Russ from Winterset...I can't help but notice that the word, "placate" is a favorite of the right wing dipsticks on this board.

Do you fools gat a new one each week, taken from your Weekly Reader, does Rush suggest it, is it a word you've just learned the definition of, or is it one of the few you can actually spell correctly...or wait...is it something you feel appeases, assuages, calms, cheers, comforts, conciliates, cools, fixes up, humors, makes nice, makes peace, makes up, mollifies, pacifies, propitiates, reconciles, satisfies, soft-pedals, soothes, strokes, sweetens, tranquilizes, or wins over?

Just wondered...'cause it's really neat.

Posted by: Geno on January 2, 2006 09:19 PM

I could tell you the backstory, but that would be "placating", now wouldn't it?

and I'm definitely not comfortable with that.

Posted by: Russ from Winterset on January 2, 2006 09:25 PM

Timmy in the Well ,
Actually, my relationship with my father, who has passed away by the way, not that you would give a fuck about something like that, was terrific.

But...here, Timmy-Boy...is a question for you: Do you even KNOW who your father IS?

And ARE YOU SURE?

Posted by: Geno on January 2, 2006 09:26 PM

I don't work for you, so I'm not very interested in dancing to your tune. I only dance with 8 - 10s, anyway (yes, before you get all excited about cracking the Limbaugh code, that's another inside joke). If you wanted to take a single topic, delve into it and try a logical, sourced, ordered approach, I'd probably give it a go, but addressing these flailing wild-eyed accusations is pointless.

Posted by: geoff on January 2, 2006 09:32 PM

I have to say, I just discovered this particular board, and, besides doing my best to aggravate the living shit out of the usual right wing dolts who worship G.W., what I find most interesting is the apparent belief by some...that their responses are somehow, witty or pithy in some abstract way.

Posted by: Emperor of Icecream on January 2, 2006 09:52 PM

Wait, you guys! I realized that all we did was CONFIRM Geno's worldview!!!

Oh, my God. Now he's going to run back to Kos and report that everything they suspected is TRUE!!

I'm not sure I can live with myself.

Posted by: The Warden on January 2, 2006 09:54 PM

I wouldn't mind having a critical review of Bush's first 5 years. But Geno wasn't bright enough to make it fun, interesting, or productive. He was pretty agile with the goalposts, though.

Posted by: geoff on January 2, 2006 09:54 PM

No, this is witty:

A country once revered by all...and look at us now.

Oh, that bygone halcyon age when America was loved by the whole world! We led the world in the manufacture of precision watches, our larders were full to overflowing with fine chocolates, and every citizen owned a rifle and knew how to use it. In those days, they called us "Switzerland," meaning "the country loved by all men of good will." How America has fallen!

Posted by: Guy T. on January 2, 2006 09:55 PM

P.S. I meant the "revered by all" remark was witty, not the stuff about Switzerland. That was half-witty.

Posted by: Guy T. on January 2, 2006 09:56 PM

I enjoyed the huffy exit followed by ONE LAST COMMENT BEFORE HE REALLY LEAVES FOR GOOD!!!

Posted by: The Warden on January 2, 2006 09:56 PM

so is he gone now? I mean REALLY gone now?

Good, now we can get back to trading recipes and discussing momentous world events and pseudocelebrity gossip.....like the burning question about whether Ace is the butch and Allah is the bitch....or vice versa.

Darn!
I had more questions for Geno.

You know, for my...

...research.

Posted by: Timmy in the Well on January 2, 2006 10:03 PM

I Was planning on dressing as Spurwing Plover next Halloween, but I'm starting to think that a Geno schtick might be a winner.

I could randomly drop by someone's house uninvited and help myself to the appetizer trays. When the host greets me, I could begin screaming "HOW COME YOU RETHUGLICANS NEVER WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE CHEESE ON YOUR APPETIZER PLATE? DOES THIS CHEESE COME FROM HALLIBURTON COWS? HOW COME YOU DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT HALLIBURTON'S SECRET HERD OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED COWS? HEY, I THOUGHT YOU RETHUGLICANS WERE ALL ABOUT THE TRUTH? WHAT'S THE TRUTH OF THIS DELICIOUS CHEESE?"

Then, if they get snippy with me, I'll start in on the little smokies. Pure f'in genius, if I do say so myself.

Posted by: Russ from Winterset on January 2, 2006 10:10 PM

Oh yeah, I forgot the part where I defecate in the sour cream dip and fling the mixture onto the other partygoers.

And I can't forget the LITTLE details that make the difference between a good costume and a GREAT costume. Like seeing the host's grandmother's wedding picture in the hallway and tossing off a winner like "Hey, there's a woman who could appreciate a good double-anal, knowwhatImean?"

Posted by: Russ from Winterset on January 2, 2006 10:13 PM

Don't forget to say, "Yep, that's the typical 'conservative' response I expected. Damn, you guys are so repressed."

Posted by: Bart on January 2, 2006 10:19 PM

Oooh, good one. I could also scream about how they've got to use "The Man" and his fascist pig cops to silence me instead of debating the "truth" of my revelations. I'm sure I could at least get half of the rant out before the taser darts hit.

Posted by: Russ from Winterset on January 2, 2006 10:26 PM

Then you can say, "Hey, I'm just doing my best to aggravate the living shit out of you all, but since you won't engage me in serious discussion, I'm leaving."

Posted by: geoff on January 2, 2006 10:28 PM

Yeah, and then I can clown them about their secret codeword geek vocabulary. Words like "reasonable fear for your safety" and "justifiable homicide".....really, what kind of an asshat uses words like those?

Man, this is GOLD. I'm writing all this down and starting to build my cosutme tomorrow morning. THIS IS GONNA BE THE BEST HALLOWEEN EVER!

Posted by: Russ from Winterset on January 2, 2006 10:33 PM

While you're rifling through the wife's pocketbook, stuffing bills in your pockets, say, "You. People. Make. Me. Sick. with your designer pocketbooks and credit cards. Oh look! Pictures of the little nazis playing soccer. Yep, just as I thought -- all your kids are white. Except this one. Whos' she?"

Oh, that's Yumi. She's our adopted daughter from North Korea.

"Oh, REALLY? You yppies couldn't help yourselves. You just had to be trendy and get yourselves a token brown baby."

Hey, wait just a minute.

"NO, YOU wait a minute. This kid was perfectly happy living in squalor before you kidnapped her from that socialistic heavenly country."

Posted by: Bart on January 2, 2006 10:36 PM

...you know, now that I think about it, it's probably best to go back to my original spurwing plover idea. I'd have to immerse myself in Geno to play Geno (method style), and like the man said...."when you dance with the devil, the devil don't change. He changes you."

(sigh) Movie Quotes: how could we function as a society without them?

Ha! Just as I suspected - all you right wing Rethuglican Jesus-humpers are afraid to engage in substantive debate about how Bush is a failure and killed our babies in his racist, fascist, hegemonic, patriarchal, classist, sexist, illegal war for oil that made all the OIL prices go up and also HEALTH CARE and how about KATRINA?!!!

Geno, how can we miss you if you won't go away?

Posted by: Lee Atwater on January 3, 2006 09:56 AM

Geno, baby. Let's get serious here for a minute. You expect us to take you seriously when this is how you greet us?

How long are these pathetic right wing morons going to continue blaming the NYT for what Bush has done to our country...

Maybe if these "patriotic" wingnuts could drag their heads out of Bush's ass long enough...

You're another one of the uneducated and uninformed wingnuts who really needs to read more...and talk less...

Let's see if you wingnuts can drag those heads out Georie's ass long enough to come up with anything...

I have to say, I just discovered this particular board, and, besides doing my best to aggravate the living shit out of the usual right wing dolts who worship G.W., what I find most interesting is the apparent belief by some...that their responses are somehow, witty or pithy in some abstract way.

NOT ONE OF YOU IDIOTS PROVIDED A SINGLE EXAMPLE TO SHORE UP ANY ARGUMENT THAT G.W. BUSH HAS DONE ONE THING THAT'S GOOD FOR OUR COUNTRY.

Since you're obviously still checking this site for responses to your pathetic tirades, let me give you some friendly advice - if you want discussion, discuss. If you want a flamewar, don't pretend you want discussion.

Listen, you just wanted to come in here, insult some 'wingers' and go back to the warmer echo chambers of DU and the Daily Kos to brag about your 'accomplishments.' That's fine, we can play that tune. I've never gone into liberal blogs to do such a thing, but then again, my life isn't centered around my hatred for the opposing political ideology.

Fine, flame away.

But don't pretend you are actually interested in answers. Information was provided that discredited your demented rantings, and you just ignored it because it didn't match the reality that exists in your mind and in the fetid discussion boards you frequent.

So have fun telling your fellow DUers how you really 'spoke truth to power' and let those 'wingnuts' have it. I hope doing so gives you a sense of satisfaction and purpose.

But know that in reality, nothing you said was particularly original, compelling or informative. You have changed no minds and raised no good points. In fact, you haven't even been that entertaining.

Just wanted to let you know where you stood.

Toodles!

Posted by: Lee Atwater on January 3, 2006 10:20 AM

The thing is, troll would probably be a moderate at the NYT's editorial room. They would probably talk behind his back, "I tell you, Geno, is right about how America has lost the ultra-valuable goodwill from Spain, but he totally lets Bush off the hook on not blowing up the levee in New Orleans. Its amazing how some people give Bush credit."

It's just that right at that moment, Geno didn't really get it. But we showed him the ropes, and he took it from there.

Posted by: joeindc44 on January 3, 2006 10:35 AM

Lee Atwater / joeindc44 / Gee, no / max / Dave in Texas, and the rest of the Bush sycophants:

Well, girls...as usual...I see no one has posted anything of substance, illustrating any of the GOOD THINGS G.W. and his corrupt cadre of assholes have done for America over the past 5 years.

Sure, I realize none of you actually know anything about politics, and that this is no more than a daily Bush Suckfest, following the lead of Rushie and Hannity and O'Reilly and Coulter and Savage, and that any yahoo can talk the talk, but why not take a shot at actually backing up your bullshit comments?

Get your heads out of Georgie's ass and step up to the plate; provide some logical and verifiable evidence of what this president has done for our country's citizens...instead of spending all of your time whining about my postings or badmouthing anybody with a contrary view...

There has to be at least one of you dipsticks who can provide a list of the reasons this little twit should be running the country...you know...before he's impeached.

GFL.

Perhaps we should add "Trogenoll" to our collection - as trolls go, he's surely a 10, at least for (i) name-calling, (ii) ignoring facts and (iii) saying he's going away and then coming back, and I think he deserves some ongoing recognition.

Plus Trogenoll has a nice slightly rhythmatic, yet non-placating ring to it.

WOW...now THAT IS witty...and it only took you 10 minutes to dredge it up.

C'mon, Davey-Boy...answer the bell. Try to come up with just 3 things Bush has done over the past 5 years that have been GOOD for America.

Posted by: Geno on January 3, 2006 12:27 PM

*We have Americans dying every day because (blah blah blah). This is a good thing Bush has done because other, lesser politicians would have cut and run. Bush is also doing a good job because he did not stop the GWOT after one good publicity victory. We continue to fight and to show resolve against an enemy whose losses in the GWOT are skyrocketing.

* We just helped create a "democracy" made up of (blah blah rant rant). This is a good thing that Bush has done because he has created the first real democracy (aside from Isreal) in the Middle East. I am not aware of the winner of the election running on a kill Americans platform. The Iraqis seem more intent on killing Saddam and the insurgents. And the number of Iraqis capable of fighting the insurgents is skyrocketing.

*Our own government is wiretapping its citizens. This is a good thing Bush has done and is doing because it shows creativity and resourcefulness on the GWOT. When citizens found out about this program , Bush's approval numbers skyrocketed through the roof.

* A barrel of oil has gone from $27 to over $60. This is a good thing because Bush's economic policies have led to increased global competition from around the world for oil. People who previously lived in the Stone Age in China and India can now afford gas. Everyone knows that increased demand leads to an increase in price. An even better job is that oil has tripled in price while America has had several years of record economic growth, 5% unemployment and increased federal revenue. In fact, I would say our economy is skyrocketing.

*The cost of heating oil, through the roof. Again, as oil skyrockets, our economy still chugs along. Bush has done a good job to incredible job of helping guide the economy through potential rough patches as the economy skyrockets and the unemployment rate plummets through the floor.

*The cost of drugs for our elderly has skyrocketing. Bush has done a good job because his pro-business policies lead to increased R&D which leads to newer drugs. In addition, American life expectancy continues to skyrocket through the roof, leading to more old people. Unfortunately, more old people can artificially inflate the amount of money spent on drugs and such because in the old days old people cost little to nothing. Because they were dead. However, Bush has done a good job to ensure that our health industries are able to cope with this, without the privations and rationing that Canada and other socialized-medicine countries have to deal with, where drug availability has plummeted through the floor.

Posted by: on January 3, 2006 12:33 PM

Lee (I'm already dead for crying out loud) Atwater...

And yet another incredibly witty comment from a member of the Bush Suckfest Gang...you numbnuts are really a hoot.

Kind of tells you something when you idiots can't conjure up one single GOOD thig Bush has done for America.

Pitiful...and boy, just look at those disapproval ratings...even from FOX!!

Posted by at January 3, 2006 12:33 PM:

*We have Americans dying every day because (blah blah blah). This is a good thing Bush has done because other, lesser politicians would have cut and run.

Yeah, it's ALWAYS GOOD for Americans to die, especially when we're doing it to help a country filled with people who would like to cut our throats. (And when we do "cut and run" as you call it...everything will go right back to the way it was.)

* We just helped create a "democracy" made up of (blah blah rant rant). This is a good thing that Bush has done because he has created the first real democracy (aside from Isreal) in the Middle East.

If you actually think what has been created in Iraq is a "real democracy" you're dumber than first thought (and that would be a stretch) The new "democracy" you mention now consists of religious radicals who hate our guts and want us OUT...NOW.

*Our own government is wiretapping its citizens. This is a good thing Bush has done and is doing because it shows creativity and resourcefulness on the GWOT.

Right, that's probably why we have the 4th Amendment...so our government can spy on us without warrants or any legal premise. (Did you graduate from H.S.??)

* A barrel of oil has gone from $27 to over $60. This is a good thing because Bush's economic policies have led to increased global competition from around the world for oil.

Oh, please. Show me when oil has EVER spiked like this over a 3 year period. (It's over $62 today)

*The cost of heating oil, through the roof. Again, as oil skyrockets, our economy still chugs along.

The cost of heating oil for states that have cold winters will be UP at least 25-40% this year. (Discuss this with people on fixed incomes, the elderly...or even your friends...if you have any.)

*The cost of drugs for our elderly has skyrocketing. Bush has done a good job because his pro-business policies lead to increased R&D which leads to newer drugs.

If you ever took a minute to read something, you'd know that there have been few drugs brought to market overthe past 20 years that provide any NEW protections from existing disease. Also, the drug companies have reaped the highest profits in their industry's history over the past 5 years. (Get that head out of Bush's ass and think..or...better yet, ask your parents or grandparents what THEY think about drug prices)

In addition, American life expectancy continues to skyrocket through the roof, leading to more old people.
There are at least 14 other countries with rates as high as or higher than ours, all with LOWER costs for health insurance and drugs. Also, the insurance industry is enjoying their very highest profits EVER.

Until you can provide FACTS instead of OPINION...you might consider reading more...and...talking less.

The premise of Geno's neverending string of questions about what GWB has done for this country highlights one of the huge differences between Left and Right.

The Left believes it is government that does things for people. The Left believes it is the the government that should take the lead to fix what ails ya.

Meanwhile, the Right just wants the government the f@ck out of the way so we can live our lives.

Please tell me I'm not placating. True, I'm likely feeding the troll. But never placating. Right?

BTW, the fourth amendment refers to evidence introduced in criminal trials, its not applicable to military matters. And it is a good that Bush approved this program.

But are you really trollish enough to say that if we weren't having our soldiers fight the GWOT, there would be no Americans dying otherwise? Kerry woulda pulled a Somalia. Its good that we fight.

And there's always this: http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2005/12/growth_in_feder.html

but...

Maybe you should pick up a newspaper and read about our CURRENT FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

It's the biggest and most expensive in our nation's history, Dude...just ake a gander at the fucking deficit these idiots have piled up for our children and children's children. (Remember the SURPLUS the LEFT built up for us...ALL GONE.)

Posted by: joeindc44 on January 3, 2006 01:21 PM

Right, thats another good thing that Bush did, he increased federal spending to spur economic growth. Since he cut taxes, the 2004 and 2005 receipts were higher than the doom and gloom predictions from 2003. Now he signed the bill to cut $40bil from the budget, which is another good thing.

Posted by: Dave in Texas on January 3, 2006 01:26 PM

Geoff, can you load up some facts about how untrue this is and feed your comrade w/ the truth?

You're mistaking the Parties for the constituencies again. While it's true that the pols and big businesses are strapping on the feedbag on both the right and left (with a few exceptions like Cypress and Olin), the constituents of the Right genuinely want more control over their earnings and fewer regulations.

Oh, and we don't generally call each other "comrades."

Posted by: geoff on January 3, 2006 01:34 PM

Federal discretionary spending as a percentage of GDP is lower under Bush than it has been, at times, since WWII.

Non-discretionary spending --entitlements -- are nearly 50% of the budge and are projected to grow to as much as 80% over the next 30-40 years.

As for the "surplus the Left built up for us" I don't remember it. It never happened. I think you're attempting to conflate projections of surpluses with actual surpluses. Try harder.

Learn something today. It won't hurt a bit.

Posted by: Birkel on January 3, 2006 01:35 PM

budge --> budget

And that's just the way it f'cking is - the f'cking left, the f'cking big media quislings and the f'cking trolls don't want facts, don't want honesty, don't want even consistency - they just want to try to score points against President Bush whenever and however they can, regardless of the consequences for all of us.

ergastularius,

Yeah, shame on my for using numbers that are adjusted to reflect historical differences.

Having read your comments on other threads I recognized you as basically worthless but now realize my error. You're completely worthless.

Posted by: Birkel on January 3, 2006 01:48 PM

Gene,
Nice try, but only Dick Cheney is hard enough to cut Dick Cheny.

Posted by: Chimperor of Icecream on January 3, 2006 01:51 PM

I hate shotgun trolls. Its as if you cram 10 bad arguments into one post, you can get away with making a bad point. Stay on topic, troll!

Posted by: joeindc44 on January 3, 2006 01:51 PM

Joe! You're still feeding the troll?

It's OK, I understand how it can happen. All those trolls wanna call you daddy. And you let them. Because they're ALWAYS hungry.

Posted by: Russ from Winterset on January 3, 2006 02:07 PM

I know, I know.

I was just gonna poke it with a stick, but then I figured, one more time, just for the memories. I grew into myself fairly late. The first girl I was ever with, you know, kissing and getting blow jobs, I was a freshman in high school and she was a senior. And she was hot too, by the way.

Posted by: joeindc44 on January 3, 2006 02:22 PM

Show me ONE SINGLE NEGATIVE comment about Bush or anything he's done...and better yet...show me ONE SINGLE FACT that supports anything GOOD the man has done for our country. (FACT, not OPINION)

Stupid fucking troll. Did you miss the Harriet Miers treads, the intelligent design threads or the threads on government spending? Oh, wait...forgot. You aren't really that interested in actual FACTS are you? You're just interested in anything that supports your myopic view of the world.

Thanks for the attention, troll, but get out of my face.

birkless

in a way even you can understand:

Your mommy made 1o$ a day in 1980 jerking off the postman. 30% of mommy's income bought baby's new shoes. now, mommy makes a 1oo$ a day jerking off the cableguy. 3% of mommy's income buys your shoes, even after the cost of shoes is adjusted for inflation.

I should also add: mommy needs a pimp now who rakes off any income gains.

Posted by: ergastularius on January 3, 2006 04:07 PM

The "numbers" don't reflect "historic differences."

That's the point.

If I was an economist, I could more to show your "proof" is utterly tendentious.

Posted by: ergastularius on January 3, 2006 04:12 PM

Another associated problem with the "5 of gdp/gnp" args.: these do not include account of inequality, measured by the expropriation of gdp by the capitalist class, or the disproportionate effects on persons' standard of living because of decling revenues and cuts in discretionary spending. gdp grows but standard of living falls.

many other problems w/ your assumption.

Posted by: ergastularius on January 3, 2006 04:17 PM

one more: expansion of money and growing speculation also not reflected in the "% of gdp" arg.--does not reflect productivity as expression of speculative bubbles and deficits.

I'm not an economist.

But, even I know.

Posted by: ergastularius on January 3, 2006 04:26 PM

What's weird is that troll thinks its Bush's fault that we are not a socialist country. But whatever, its kinda stupid to be tossing around these numbers because even poor people seem to have ipods. Our poverty and another country's poverty are not the same.

Your rightwing hero kevin phillips has written much about the way repub/dem elites raid our economy. Pete Peterson, too.

Posted by: ergastularius on January 3, 2006 04:43 PM

ergastularius,
You're wasting your time with these idiots. All they want to hear is what they already believe to be so...and for some ungodly reason they actually think they're "witty." (witless would be a better term)

Facts mean absolutely nothing, it's "opinion" and a rigid right wing philosophy that drives these morons...and, of course, their daily Bush Suckfest.

I've been asking these yahoos to provide a list of ALL the WONDERFUL things Bush has done for our country over the past 5 years, but...after 3 days...NADA.

Keep this in mind: 99% of what you'll hear from these people can be heard on a daily basis from Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, Savage and Coulter so you're fighting a losing battle. It's the standard Republican talking points and they think if they just keep saying it...it will be so...much like the little twit in the white house.

Clue, you may be a troll if you use the word "doxafuck." You may also be studying for your GRE.

This stupid thread has veered from the NYT's to Bush to the merits of capitalism. Socalism sucks. Cradle to grave welfare states suck. Get over it. Thats a fact, jack.

Gee, no,
What are you...about 10 years old?

As history deals with Clinton and your little hero...we'll see who comes out on top. Thus far, little Georgie hasn't provided much...and it isn't getting any better.

But, hey...if you think he's such a stalwart guy...why not provide me with all of the wonderful things Bush has done for America since taking office?

To The Bush Sycophants:
I've encountered some really, really stupid people on boards like this, but I have to admit...you dipsticks are the dumbest of the dumb. (I especially like the way you use a number of different monikers, apparently thinking this in some way "disguises" who you really are...so it looks like others are supporting your inane comments...what a hoot.)

And it's always easy to spot those who know nothing, and are not interested in knowing or even discussing various viewpoints...by the way they sidestep any form of real discourse by trying to be "cute" or what they think is "witty." (And I love the "secret decoder rings" you use...and you call yourselves adults??)

So...since I have yet to get a reasonable or intelligible response from any of you morons, I'll not waste any more of my time trying...and will leave you to your Bush Suckfest and find another forum...at least until the impeachment process takes hold...now THAT will be FUN.

Until then, hold this thought: succhi il mio dick

Geno left us with a little gem. Another great quote for Ace to add when (read: if) he gets the quotes thing in the margin.

Posted by: Bart on January 3, 2006 08:42 PM

Geno trys to hijack a thread, while simultaneously throwing gratuitous insults at other posters, whines and throws more insults when he and his hijack efforts are mocked, ignores facts and moves goalposts, then announces in ringing tones that he's leaving and not coming back and then repeats that announcement 14 times (at least).

The Warden is correct: Ace o' Spades now has a new dues-fully-paid-up life member of the

"Troll Hall of Fame".

Geno may (or may not) be gone, but he won't be forgotten.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
