ACLU Opposes TSA Screening For Suspicious Behavior

Surely we can't have para-law-enforcement personnel asking people questions based upon suspicious behavior!

That's how Hitler got started!

Security screeners at 40 major airports across the country will be trained next year to use casual conversation to flush out possible terrorists.

The Transportation Security Administration will first teach screeners what suspicious behaviors to look for in travelers. These can include nervousness, wearing a big coat in the summer or reluctance to make eye contact with law enforcement. Then, the screener will quiz passengers on their travel plans in hopes of spotting possible terrorists.

The security technique, called behavior detection or behavior-pattern recognition, is already in place at several major airports, including those in Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Miami and Houston. Behavior detection is a common practice among police officers and customs agents, who often engage arriving passengers they suspect in more detailed conversation. But the proposed program that will be put in place at airport security checkpoints nationwide adds a psychological dimension to the screening process.

...

The American Civil Liberties Union has warned that the screening technique could result in racial profiling.

“This is a code word for targeting brown-skinned males between ages 17 and 45 years. It’s not only racial profiling, it’s ethnic profiling,” said Timothy Sparapani, who oversees privacy rights for the ACLU.

Yeah, we can't have that, either.

You see Ms. Parker?
The MSM reported that shit as if it actually had some connection to the real world. Any sane person without an axe to grind can see that the ACLU wants this country crippled, or destroyed, if necessary. It went past all those poor carpal tunnel afflicted wretches and underpaid editors, and plopped right onto the front page. And that happens what, 400 times per DAY? If information is going to be controlled by the freakin ACLU, and whatever passes for "journalists" handling the info, we're going to need one hell of a lot more rambunctous bloggers to kick them in the crotch when they get out of line.

The ACLU is clearly dangerous, but even after reading this report, I am starting to wonder if my traditional position, that they hate America and want us destroyed is sufficient.
It is difficult for me to imagine a group of people deliberatley dedicated to something that would ultimately get themselves killed. I wonder if there is a way to get inside their heads [yech] and find a thread of good will or at least connected thought that leads them to the reactionary counter rational anti-democratic and anti-liberty positions they take?
IOW, is there a way to get to their world view and vision of America that involves good will on their part?
I frankly doubt it, and certainly don't see it now.

Timothy Sparapani, hmmmmmm? Isn't that a foreign name?

In related, breaking news:

ACLU Offers Alternative

(AP) - After obtaining a judgment from the Supreme Court barring law enforcement officers from acting on information relayed through their optic nerves, lawyers for the ACLU were quick to stress that they "do understand that America is at war with insurgents" and therefore with the endorsement of the Democratic National Party have drafted new rules to facilitate the swift identification and capture of threatening persons.

"It's a radical yet simple concept that our criminal president sadly did not think of," said Harry Reid, Democrat Senate Minority leader. "Airport security persons will stand beneath large signs reading 'Raise Your Hand if You're a Terrorist', with legal waivers and pens holstered at the ready which will be presented to terrorists as a means of obtaining permission to search their bags."

Lurch Adams, a face often and meaninglessly attached to current events, stated "I am John Kerry, and I endorse this bold new security measure undertaken by the Democratic party who is very aware of the dangerous terrorism that is threatening and bad."

The ACLU is the most dangerous organization operating in the U.S.

They should be shut down using the RICO anti racketeering statutes.

Do they EVER take a position that common sense would support? Fer God's sake, they have been on a 25 year mission to destroy the Boy Scouts. The. Boy. Scouts.

How else would Eddie Murphy have apprehended the bad guys in the strip club in Beverly Hills Cop, subsequently giving all the credit to Rosewood and Taggart?

Let's get the word out that the ACLU does all that listed above and more at taxpayers' expense!

We need congress to repeal the 1976 Civil Liberties Attorneys Compensation Act to shut down the money spigot that fuels this dangerous and treasonous organization.

Posted by: trentk269 on December 29, 2005 02:13 PM

I agree the ACLU is very dangerous on national security--how about anti ACLU demonstrations ?

Oh yeah, I want to see the textbook the minimum-wage rocket scientist screeners will be using to learn how to "engage" passengers in "detailed conversation."

The ACLU is evil?

WTF are you people MORONS?

The ACLU protects and defends ALL AMERICANS CIVIAL LIBERTIES...

Including your God...Rush Limbaugh...

Including Nazis...

But I am sure they are financing the "War on Christmas" as well..

If you cannot comprehend that everyone is entitled to civilrights, religious freedom, freedom from religion, having their medical records protected even though they are a lying hypocrite oxycontin addcit..

Well---Love it or LEAVE IT...

The ACLU defended NAMBLA, an organization with which I'm sure you are familiar.

Amnesty International is also an evil organization.

The point you are missing, Sad Boy, is that conservatives would agree 100% with this. What they would disagree with is nature of the civil liberties in question. When the ACLU hoists the flag for "civil liberties," some people immediately salute without asking, does this construal of this particular liberty (say, right to privacy or search and seizure) comport with the Constitution, or even common sense?

Hunter says: "The ACLU is clearly dangerous, but even after reading this report, I am starting to wonder if my traditional position, that they hate America and want us destroyed is sufficient."

I think you're on to something. I don't think the ACLU and its supporters (God, I used to be a member!) hate America or want to see it harmed (unless, of course, Bush can be blamed). I think they are so devoted to abstract principles that they are fundamentally incapable of dealing with the real world or with real world hazards. For them, everything is a law school hypothetical.

"It's f**king f**ked."
-- reportedly a genuine comment offered by a "senior Labour source"
Correction: I wrote that Labour is losing 88% (now 87%) of the seats it is "defending." I think that's wrong. The right way to say it is the seats they are contesting -- that is, they don't necessarily already hold these seats, but they have put up a candidate to run for the seat. It's still very bad but not as bad as losing 87% of the seats they already held.

🚨ED MILIBAND [a Minister in Starmer's government] SAYS KEIR STARMER WILL RESIGN AS PRIME MINISTER

He has reportedly reassured Labour MP's that Starmer will be resigning following the disastrous results tonight

It's over
"The end of the two party system in the UK" as first the Fake Conservatives and now Labour chooses political suicide rather than simply STOPPING THE INVASION
Incidentally, the only reason this didn't already happen in the US is because of the Very Bad Orange Man (who is right on 85% of all policy calls and extremely, existentially right on 15% of them)
No political party that is NOT also a doomsday religious cult would EVER choose a cataclysmic loss -- and possible extinction as a party -- to support a toxically unpopular favoritism of NON-CITIZEN ILLEGAL MIGRANTS over actual citizen voters.

Only a cult does this.
Now they've lost 84%.
Annunziata Rees-Mogg
@zatzi
If this continues Labour loses 2,148 seats tonight.

That is much worse than the worst case predictions I’ve seen.

Cataclysmic

Update: They've now lost 88% of the seats they're defending. As I mentioned earlier, I think I heard that London will not bail them out, as many of those Labour seats will probably flip to "Muslim Independent" or Green. Detroit's 5am vote will not save them.
Yup, Labour is losing 80% of its seats...
The British Patriot
@TheBritLad

🚨 BREAKING: Labour have lost 80% of all seats contested as of 2:25 AM.<
br> If this continues, Keir Starmer will be out of office next week.

Reform has surged and projected to pick up between 1700-2100 seats.

Wow, up to 1700-2100 seats. It's not incredible that this is happening. It's incredible that the Davos crowd is so absolutely determined to privilege Muslim "migrants" over the actual native population who elects them, no matter how loudly the natives scream that they want to be prioritized, that they will gladly self-extinguish as a party rather than simply representing the interests of their own voters. Astonishing.
Remember, when they call other people "cultists" -- they are the ones so imprisoned in their social reinforcement and discipline bubbles that they will choose political death rather than dare upset the Karen Enforcement Officers of their cult.
Update: Now they've lost 83% of the seats they were defending.
(((Dan Hodges)))
@DPJHodges

Reform are basically wiping Labour out in the North. It's not a defeat. It's not even a rout. Labour are simply ceasing to exist.

Nick Lowles
@lowles_nick

Tonight’s results are calamitous for Labour. Not just for Keir Starmer's leadership, but for the very future of the party
STARMERGEDDON: In early returns, Reform gains 135 seats, Labour loses 90, the Fake Conservatives lose 36 (and I didn't even know they could fall any further), the Lib Dems lose 4, and the Greens gain 6. Note that the only other party gaining seats is the Greens and they're only gaining a handful of seats.
Update: Reform now up 145, Labour down 98.
Labour projected to lose Wales -- where they've ruled for 27 years.
Fulton County Georgia just discovered 400 boxes of ballots for Labour
Update: REF +156, LAB -107, CON -45
Brutal: In four out of five council seats where Labour is defending, they've lost. 80%.
I'm sure it's not this simple, but Reform is straight taking Labour's and the "Conservatives'" seats. They've lost almost exactly what Reform gained. If understand this right (and warning, I probably don't), all of London's council seats are up for election, and Labour might lose hugely there, as their old voters abandon them for Reform, Muslim Indenpendents, and the Greens.
REF +190, LAB -134, CON -56.
Updates on the Labour collapse in council elections -- which wags are calling #Starmergeddon -- from Beege Welborne. There are about 5000 seats up for grabs, Labour is expected to lose 1,800, Reform will probably gain 1,580, up from... zero. So this would be more than that.
People claim that while Labour has adopted the Sharia Agenda to appeal to the million Muslims it allowed to migrate to the country, those voters are ditching Labour to vote for the Muslim Independent Party or the Greens. Delicious. This shadenfreude is going straight to my thighs.
Oh, and if Starmer loses about as badly as expected, Labour will toss him out of a window Braveheart style and replace him. He will announce he is resigning to spend more time with his Gay Ukrainian Male Prostitutes.
Media bias and senationalism are as old as, well, the media:

That was written by Denny O'Neill and illustrated by, get this, Frank Miller. Editor to the Stars Jim Shooter was in charge at the time.
I always thought the gag was original to the comic book, but in fact the "Threat or Menace" headline was a satirical joke about media bias and sensationalism for a long while. The Harvard Lampoon used it in a parody of Life magazine: "Flying Saucers: Threat or Menace?"
