More on Able Danger: A Hillary! Connection

The program was scrapped because the data-mining and connection-making software turned up too many prominent Washington names. Including Hillary!

As Captain's Quarters notes, given that this particular search concerned Chinese espionage, it's hardly surprising the name Hillary Rodham Clinton popped up. In fact, the program would be a failure if it didn't note the connections between Johnny Chung and the Clintons.

A very poor decision. Yes, prominent names are going to turn up; anyone's whose spent more than five minutes on the Internet knows you can find vague connections between just about anyone.

I just applied for Google ads. I was rejected for "objectionalbe content." Knowing this decision was made by a computer -- which almost certainly raised red flags over the sexual language in the Dick Cheney threads -- I figured the computer had mistakenly labled this a porn site. A gay porn site. A gay porn site with a pronounced bestiality/Dick Cheney fetish.

So I wrote back and asked them to take a common-sense second-look with human eyes. Within 12 hours they wrote back to say that the site was unobjectionable as regards content.

If people working at Google can use common sense to toss out the sort of silly conclusions mindless computers sometimes arrive at, why couldn't the military intelligence people at the Pentagon?

You mean this isn't a "A gay porn site with a pronounced bestiality/Dick Cheney fetish."

Damn.

Well, it is and it isn't.

There's nuance and context around all that sweet Cheney Doberman-sodomizing goodness.

I wonder if it turned up this site asking unity against Sen. Clinton? www.HillaryPrevention.com

Whoa, dude-- there's common sense here at the Pentagon? You've been watching too much E-Ring, pal.

Cheers,

Are you sure the GoogleAd-bot didn't object to the poor spelling?

"There's nuance and context around all that sweet Cheney Doberman-sodomizing goodness."

Mmmm, crunchy...

Saying that the Clintons were bought lock stock & barrel by the Chicoms isn't "silly".

It's just true.

Posted by: someone on December 8, 2005 04:45 PM

Look, Ace, that's fine about telling them to take a second look, but did you point them to the specific threads? Didja let them see the black marks? or did you say, "go look at that one about Mary and her little lamb"?

In other words, did you placate? It will just end badly: not as a long term thing, but maybe as a 5 ad spark-off?

Posted by: DeeDaGo on December 8, 2005 04:47 PM

When you understand how effective data mining is, you understand why the Clinton Administration was threatened by it. You will then understand why they suppressed it, even at the cost of possibly preventing terrorist attacks in this country.

"Within 12 hours they wrote back to say that the site was unobjectionable as regards content."

I know they didn't spend 12 hours reviewing your site... hell If I spent 12 hours digging thru your blog I could probably have you slapped with a half dozen lawsuits, 3 or 4 subpoeanas for murder trials, arrested for various depravities against man and nature, deported, and possibly even taken in for a root canal.

I bet Google just saw your Mencken quote and assumed you were an intellectual in good standing.

Why did they stop? Because they like their jobs, and anything fishy with the boss' name on it - or his wife's - isn't healthy career-wise.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
