A movie on the Warsaw Uprising would be awesome. I'm looking forward to Spielberg's movie on the Revenge (aptly named "Operation Wrath of God") for the massacre at the Munich Olympics. Munich. How...ironic.

Well, Ace, by allowing the gentile to save the Jew, the Jew thereby saves the gentile. Just like black characters in Hollywood movies can redeem white people by showing them how to loosen up, the Hollywood Jew can redeem the European gentile by showing him how not to be a genocidal asshole.

If you hate these types of movies, look on the bright side. There is a natural limit to the number of movies that Hollywood can make based on inspiring true stories of Europeans being nice to Jews during the Holocaust, since there are only about ten of them.

I thought I saw one of those made-for-TV movies about that already. It was exceptional. Check around, you can probably find it on DVD.

We watched it in a class in eighth grade. It's called The Wall (from 1982) and starred Tom Conti. I would link to its entry in the Internet Movie Database but Ace's content filter doesn't like the initials or the name of the site!

The Warsaw Ghetto uprising made for TV movie was called Uprising. David Schwimmer (not as bad as you think), that other guy (very good), and Leelee Sobieski (oy vey, she gives me the tingling in my pants).

It was a great movie -- highly recommended. I've bought it on video and DVD at various times.

Some did, like 30 years ago. Richard Dreyfus was the only person I remember from it. It was one of those 70's style (crap) movies but you got a feel for the story.

Ummm...The Patriot was indeed PC revisionist crap. I think that the musical 1776 was more historically accurate. Though I think he redeemed himself with We Were Soldiers.

I always liked Night of the Generals for no other reason then it was filmed in Warsaw.

I watched a dvd recently called Unlikely heroes which was a documentary with the pov that contrary to opinion, the Jews were not passive.

One story was about some ballsy kid, the son of an orthodox rabbi, who when he got word there was going to be a raid, would dress up as the SS and go arrest the people first and take them to a safe house.

I saw an ad recently for some movie called Munich about the tracking down of the terrorists who murdered the Israelis at the Olympics. It's been made before, however. Of course, the clip I saw made the Israelis look as bad as possible b/c they tracked down the murderers that the Germans let go and killed them one by one.

The Patriot ... hmmmm. PC revisionist crap? Now that is funny. We have come so far.

I guess that the fact that there are less films / shorts / stories in the modern public discourse that even mentions The Revolution could be pure accident.

Or that the current common wisdom and modern public education reviles the founding fathers, their deeds, and their philosophies is an aberration.

On the other hand, since the Patiot chose to show the Revolution in a good light, and the common man who fought the war doing so for good reasons, I guess it would be revisionist, but only in revising the former revision.

And just in case anyone is interested, while the Patriot does take more than a little poetic license, it adequately portrays the actions of the South Carolina Swamp Fox (Francis Marion). It's also a pretty fair rendition of the British southern campaign between 1778 and 1781, including the fact that there was a turning point that happened in the South. Important: the British surrender at Yorktown was a direct result of Cornwallis losing the South. Washington was holding groun in the North while Greene and Marion were dismantling the British army in the South.

It was worth it.

So, yeah, revisionist, in the same way that The Lord of the Rings is revisionist. Everyone knows the elves didn't REALLY show up until the end at Helm's Deep.

Raid on Entebbe was a tv movie from 1977. I don't remember Richard Dreyfuss, but Charles Bronson was in it, and the black guy from Homicide as Idi Amin.

You can catch it on cable every now and again.

Been a long long time since I've seen Raid on Entebbe but any movie with both Charles Bronson and Yaphet Kotto gots to be good.

Both were gutsy, but I'd say the Second Warsaw Uprising gets the edge. They could have sat there and waited a few weeks to be rescued , but they tried to take their fate into their own hands ahead of the Soviets.
