Howard Dean: Heartthrob of the RNC

The Republican Party will use the immigration issue to divide the country, he says.
See if you can find the funny in this snippet:

"Once again, the Republicans created problems so they think they can come in and solve them," Dean told DNC members meeting in Phoenix.

Thousands of illegal immigrants cross America's borders each year to work better-paying jobs.

Heh, as the man says.

Dean said the government should have an "earned legalization" program in which immigrants who contribute to society and pay taxes should be able to earn the right to become citizens.

So the incentive to legally enter the country is...?

The DNC chairman also criticized Bush for not working with Mexico to confront America's immigration problems. "Work with Mexico to improve economies in rural America and rural Mexico, and you will stop the flood of people wanting to come to America," Dean said.

DAMMIT. If he weren't so dreamy, I'd almost be getting angry with him here.

Mexico has a successful economic model to follow if it chooses, right here in plain sight, where it has been for a couple centuries. We aren't exactly keeping it a secret, guys.
And yet Mexico's government is quasi-socialist, corrupt as all get-out, and prints pamphlets on how to illegally cross into the U.S.
And we give them aid money.

What, precisely, are we supposed to help them with?

Howard, can you get a little more specific?

Seriously, you're losing me. I'm just a small businesswoman. Speak slowly and use the little words.

I have read several reports (all of which I can't find now-- typical) that state money sent back to Mexico by illegals outpaces the country's income in cement and oil. We're their ATM; why should they change? They certainly don't have to, irrespective of their vast resources and, what, the 10th largest economy in the world (?).

Use little words, and lots of colorful pictures. All to make the majority of the populace realive that their interests are not with the Democrats.

Boo-Yeah! Thanks, Howie!

Posted by: Mikey on December 3, 2005 10:13 PM

I see. When Republicans design and push a program like NAFTA over the objection of most Democrats they are trying to screw the American worker and send jobs to Mexico. But when they get serious about border security they are racist.

It takes some serious mental gymnastics to be a Democrat.

You still think Howie is dreamy Laura?

I though you had transfered your affections to another lefty--and dang I can't remember who it was.

And don't forget to vote Democrat, kids. Several times in each election, if you can swing it.

Was the funny "thousands" instead of "millions?"

Posted by: Knemon on December 3, 2005 10:53 PM

More interesting to me in this story, is that our dear Governor Janet Napolitano, again left town for Howie's visit. She flew the coop the last time he came to town!

The local talk radio hosts were wondering if this was a coincidence, or if she's avoiding Howie...I wonder too!

another dem hypocisy is thast if we did close the borders to illegal imm, then wages for usa workers would go up - something dems usually campaighn on - higher wages.

but then the dems are in a bind on imm: they don;t want to lose the hisp vote, and they fear if they seem to tugh on mex imm that it will cost them this bloc.

conservatives are not hypocrits on this; they're simple and their policy is understandable: let's enforce the laws and protect the border.

which is why it shold be FRONT BURNER between now an nov 2006.

IOW: it ain't just howeird dean's problem; it's a dem thing. and we should HAMMER it home.

Pick an effin' topic at random. It's no less true.

"I'm just a small businesswoman"

5'2" in heels ain't so bad. And I know a little German.

Howard Dean is great for Republicans...

Karl Rove does it again!!!

Posted by: Leo on December 4, 2005 04:44 AM

Apparently no one told Dean that free trade was the best way to help those people.

Posted by: TallDave on December 4, 2005 04:45 AM

Well that would turn off the antiglobalization crowd. Gotta keep those assholes happy, you know.

God forbid a brown person should work in a factory in their own country.

Hard to imagine that Howie was an MD before he left his malpractice to go into politics in the People's Republic of Vermontistan.

Posted by: Border Reiver on December 4, 2005 10:48 AM

When I was a kid, Vermont was still at least 60% hillbilly, the way God intended.

Now mostly cute antique stores and faux-rustic summer homes for college professors.

Blech.

The men still wear flannel shirts in Vermont, but now they do it ironically.

Posted by: lauraw on December 4, 2005 10:57 AM

Help them? WTH?

Sheesh, the dems are all over us for "helping" Israel, but now they want to take the position to help....

Oh, of course. Helping the Mexicans get here provides the democratic base with all those illegal votes and voter fraud. How else could Nancy Pelosi stay in office?

Posted by: William Thrash on December 4, 2005 03:51 PM

The People's Republic of Mexico is nearly the place people like Dean wish to take our country. If the country wasn't so corrupt, if the politicians would allow the people to make a reasonable wage (linked to the economy in general, not to an "Ivory Tower" concept), and if the people could trust the government enforcement people (all the way from Federales to local gendarmes), then our country wouldn't be bleeding economically like a stuck pig.

"They only take the jobs even a black man wouldn't do." That is the newest Big Lie. In virtually any city, town or village in our country there are illegals in jobs ANYONE else would love, but they take them at such a reduced rate no one else will do the same work for the same (reduced) rate.

So, they use our schools, hospitals and emergency services; they cause unemployment to be artificially high; they force citizens onto the public dole; they have significantly higher arrest and incarceration rates, and recidivism; and they send a ton of dollars out of our economy to their own.

Tell me again how much they aren't hurting the United States by being here illegally?

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
Whoops! I posted about Dan Goldman losing the NY congressional primary. He might do that, but it won't be tonight -- the primary isn't held until June 23.
One race to keep an eye on: the Levi's heir nepo baby and egregious "Designated Liar" Dan Goldman -- one of the Democrats from a safe district Democrats send out to spread their most indefensible lies -- may actually lose his lower Manhattan/Brooklyn set due to, get this, antisemitism in the Democrat primary electorate.
Antisemitism? In the anti-Nazi Democrat Party? Sounds crazy, I know, but apparently the anti-Nazi Party wants to eliminate Jews.

Democrat Senator Rueben Gallego, who served his wife with divorce papers when she was nine months pregnant so that he could marry his side-piece, counsels us that we should not judge Graham Platner for his infidelity because these things are personal matters, Racists:

Sahil Kapur
@sahilkapur

Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., on Platner: "We know that Graham has lived not your typical political experience. He's been very clear and open with his wife, and they worked through whatever they worked through. At the end of the day, this man has had 60 more town halls than Susan Collins has. He's winning the polls, he's willing to accept that he has grown as a person, and I think we should accept that."

Gallego says the drip-drip of revelations won't harm Platner's campaign.

"I think you guys are all in a bubble here right now. The drip, drip that's actually happening is Americans are really, really hurt the fact that gas is still high, food is still high, they can't buy a home, you can't afford rent. They're not going to care about text messages and everything else like that that happened years ago, especially when it was worked out between spouses."

I like that he says that it's okay that Graham Platner sexted 12 different women within months of marrying the woman to sponge off her because he wasn't then "living a political life" -- the clear meaning being, "We all cheat, we just don't cheat when we're running for office, and he didn't know he was running for office when he was sending dicpics to half the women he ran into."
Except he was running: His own wife turned the sexts over to his campaign.
And obviously Reuben Gallego didn't let his "political life" get in the way of his extramarital dating life:
