Good News From Iraq* Iraq suicide blasts at lowest level in 7 months Cites and elaborating quotes at the link. I was trying to make this point earlier: The Democrats and the media want Bush to lose this war, for political reasons. They want to pressure him to cut and run and allow Iraq to be the war-torn terrorist haven they need it to be in order to prosper. But they cannot advocate this cut and run strategy if we're winning the war. They cannot press for the withdrawal of all troops from a war when actual victory is perhaps just a year away. So they need to claim that the war is "unwinnable." If the war is unwinnable, of course, there's hardly anything lost by withrdawing now. In fact, if the war truly were unwinnable, it would be prudent to get out early, rather than throwing living soldiers after the dead. This requires them to deny all progress being made in Iraq, denigrate the fantastic job our military is doing in hunting down and killing terrorists who would otherwise be committing terrorist actions directly against US interests, claim that Iraq's constitutional, elected government is actually worse than Saddam's dictatorship, etc. Only with this false predicate -- "We're losing now, and we will lose in the future" -- can they advance their defeatist agenda, and disguise the true reasons for wanting a bug-out (they have to defeat Bush politically before he achieves victory militarily in Iraq). Their careers, political and media, depend upon an American defeat in Iraq. They cannot hope for an actual Al Qaeda military victory; that's simply an impossibility. They need Bush to concede defeat in the jaws of victory, and to do that, they need to convince the American public that a war moving towards full victory is actually doomed to certain defeat. They need this. They cannot recapture power without it. And if convincing the American people to save their asses by forcing Bush to surrender requires them lying about white phosphorus, "propaganda" in Iraqi newspapers, and the like, they'll do so, gladly. Much like the Goateed Evil Twins of the Founding Fathers, who knew they were risking hanging for treason by signing the Declaration of Independence, they have put too much on the line to choose any other path at this point. America must lose for them to win. And if Al Qaeda can't, and the American military won't, help them in securing an American defeat, they'll just have to find another way. Compare And Contrast... to their relentless dishonest negativism on an economy that's grown at an average yearly rate of 4% for the past several years, as pointed out by the Good Doctor Reo Symes below. Same thing. They can't quite sabotage the economy (although fostering false pessimissism does injure the economy), but they sure as hell can do a lot to make sure everyone perceives Bush's economic plan as "unwinnable." The moment America realizes the economy is booming, well, forget taking back Congress in 2006. It drives me batty when the liberals/media (redundant I know) claim that Bush and conservatives are guilty of daffy optimism and "faith-based" politics. In fact, Bush and conservatives' may be optimistic, but their optimism is much closer to reality than liberal/media pessimism. In fact, it's the liberals/media guiltiest of the daffiest optimism and "faith-based" thinking -- they are exhuberantly, irrationally optimistic that everything from the economy to the war are going to hell in a handbasket, which of course is very optimistic news for them. posted by Ace at 02:44 PM
Commentsdeny all progress being made in Iraq Hear that sound? Of course you don't, because the sound can only be heard by special people who have been implanted with a warning device that activates when anyone in the world is talking about progress in Iraq. Any minute now a "special person" will chime in to "deny all progress made in Iraq." Posted by: Bart on December 3, 2005 03:04 PM

Troops returning victorious in the war on terror is the moonbat democrat's worst PR nightmare ever. Sensible folk will recoil in horror if they are reviled or their story spiked. Posted by: boris on December 3, 2005 03:22 PM

Ace is teh real terroist. How dare you question theirpatriotism! This is what smart people call triangulariztn, staking out every side of the debate. So, Kennedy can call Iraq a deadly quicksand type of quagmire not seen since his brother was president, days before an Iraqi election. Durbin pointing out we are like nazis. And Murtha telling us the army is about ready to be pushed into the ocean. What other outcome could there be that we haven't covered? Posted by: joeindc44 on December 3, 2005 05:01 PM
Once agian, imo it's not media, it's not msm, it's Big Media Quislings, or Quislings for short. It's the Quislings who enable (and encourage) the Dems/liberals, not the other way around. I If the Quislings were honest, honorable, unbaised etc. instead of hating the US in general and Republicans in particular, the Dems/liberals would have to abandon their anti-US, defeatist rhetoric and work with the rest of us to win in Iraq and help make the world safer against terrorism. One needs only to pont out the eerie parallels between the DNC talking points and the statements issued by al-Quaeda, al-Quaeda sympathizers, Saddam Hussein. Bin Laden says the American presence in the Middle East is the cause of terrorism. Al Quaeda demands American troops withdraw immediately. Democrats demand immediate troop withdrawal. Saddam calls the US invaders for oil. Saddam said the invasion was for Israel's zionistic interest. Bin Laden accuses the US for imperialism. There's loads more examples of the uncanny points of agreement and parroting between the Left and the Islamofacists. The asshole from Venezuela is getting in on the act. Pat Robertson was right, that man needs to be taken out. I'm not worried about his dissenting views, I'm worried about his rabble-rousing and am insulted by his disrespect. He needs an ass-kicking.

As one Marine put it, it's like if I spent $7.99 for a slice of pizza and the headlines the next day read, "Marine Out Eight Bucks!" Who are you going to trust for the real story in Iraq, the media or a Marine in Iraq? The quote above is from a Marine who recognizes the bullshit going on in the media. Link.

I agree with everything you're saying. Why can't liberals realize the stakes? This is an existential struggle. I really, truly wouldn't care if a democrat were prosecuting this war effectively - of course we know the left can't say the same. Posted by: rakmjn1 on December 4, 2005 04:55 AM
This was a great post. Frightening but true, absolutely on target. Posted by: Redhand on December 4, 2005 05:30 AM
You forget to mention an uncomfortable fact, the MSM get to define what "winning" means. If we have not turned Iraq into Laguna Beach in the next two years, with less corruption and hanky-panky in govt than Iceland, all we will hear about is how we are abandoning the country to a fate worst than Saddam. MoDo in the NYT has already started that meme with her tearjerkers about how women had more rights in the good ol' days, when they were hunded down by Uday. topcat: Glad to see someone besides Michelle Malkin and me impressed with Big Lizards' postings.... as well as another blog that supports the Iraq War and our troops. You might also like Victor Davis Hanson's column characterizing the Iraq War as a moral war and backing up his thesis. It can be found at yesterday's NationalReviewOnline. It's also featured and linked at PelicanPost.blogspot today. Great blog. Keep up the good work! -Jacqueline Posted by: jacqueline on December 4, 2005 11:26 AM
Oops! Sorry! My comment just posted should have been addressed to Ace. Just erase "topcat" and substitute "Ace." That way I won't feel so stupid and Ace won't feel insulted. Anyone who thinks, as topcat does, that the mainstream media (MSM) get to define what "winning means," has drunk the Bill Clinton Koolaid and does not even know what the word "is" is. The MSM is not qualified to define anything for the American public.... or to establish any litmus test for what constitutes winning the war. All the MSM is capable of anymore is defining journalism ethics and reportage down to a common denominator of anti-war, anti-troops yellow journalism. My apologies. Now, I'll go and scrape the egg off my face. -Jacqueline Posted by: jacqueline on December 4, 2005 11:38 AM
The more things change... I was reading a Civil War history book last night and came across this passage. Posted by: Jim H on December 4, 2005 03:37 PM
the evilest thing of all is that the dems are stepping up their antiwar rhetoric as we close on the Iraqi elections, exactly as the terroists are stepping up their carbombs and assassinations. they want the Iraqis AND the terrorists to believe we're gonna cut and run. Few people remember that Norm MacDonald began his career as a ventriloquist
MacDonald's old partner Adam Egot revealed that MacDonald repurposed a bit with one of his ventriloquist dolls -- that he was a "bad guy" who "didn't believe the Holocaust happened" -- for the Norm MacDonald show, in which he claimed Egot didn't believe in the Holocaust. Funniest thing I've read about the Virginia mess. Back when they were hustling the referendum through the assembly both Senators, Warner and Kaine, advised them to go slow and play by the rules. Louise Lucas said she respected them but didn't need advice from the "cuck chair" in the corner. The gerrymandering was overturned and Louise is heading for the big house. Edward G. Robinson voice "where's your cuck now?" I posted his post on twitter and it's gotten 25K views so far. Thanks, Smell the Glove Chris

"It's f**king f**ked."
-- reportedly a genuine comment offered by a "senior Labour source" Correction: I wrote that Labour is losing 88% (now 87%) of the seats it is "defending." I think that's wrong. The right way to say it is the seats they are contesting -- that is, they don't necessarily already hold these seats, but they have put up a candidate to run for the seat. It's still very bad but not as bad as losing 87% of the seats they already held. Basil the Great
"The end of the two party system in the UK" as first the Fake Conservatives and now Labour chooses political suicide rather than simply STOPPING THE INVASION
Incidentally, the only reason this didn't already happen in the US is because of the Very Bad Orange Man (who is right on 85% of all policy calls and extremely, existentially right on 15% of them)
No political party that is NOT also a doomsday religious cult would EVER choose a cataclysmic loss -- and possible extinction as a party -- to support a toxically unpopular favoritism of NON-CITIZEN ILLEGAL MIGRANTS over actual citizen voters.
Only a cult does this.
Now they've lost 84%.
Annunziata Rees-Mogg Update: They've now lost 88% of the seats they're defending. As I mentioned earlier, I think I heard that London will not bail them out, as many of those Labour seats will probably flip to "Muslim Independent" or Green. Detroit's 5am vote will not save them.
Yup, Labour is losing 80% of its seats...
The British Patriot Wow, up to 1700-2100 seats. It's not incredible that this is happening. It's incredible that the Davos crowd is so absolutely determined to privilege Muslim "migrants" over the actual native population who elects them, no matter how loudly the natives scream that they want to be prioritized, that they will gladly self-extinguish as a party rather than simply representing the interests of their own voters. Astonishing. Remember, when they call other people "cultists" -- they are the ones so imprisoned in their social reinforcement and discipline bubbles that they will choose political death rather than dare upset the Karen Enforcement Officers of their cult. Update: Now they've lost 83% of the seats they were defending. (((Dan Hodges))) Nick Lowles
STARMERGEDDON: In early returns, Reform gains 135 seats, Labour loses 90, the Fake Conservatives lose 36 (and I didn't even know they could fall any further), the Lib Dems lose 4, and the Greens gain 6. Note that the only other party gaining seats is the Greens and they're only gaining a handful of seats.
Update: Reform now up 145, Labour down 98. Labour projected to lose Wales -- where they've ruled for 27 years. Fulton County Georgia just discovered 400 boxes of ballots for Labour Update: REF +156, LAB -107, CON -45 Brutal: In four out of five council seats where Labour is defending, they've lost. 80%. I'm sure it's not this simple, but Reform is straight taking Labour's and the "Conservatives'" seats. They've lost almost exactly what Reform gained. If understand this right (and warning, I probably don't), all of London's council seats are up for election, and Labour might lose hugely there, as their old voters abandon them for Reform, Muslim Indenpendents, and the Greens. REF +190, LAB -134, CON -56.
Updates on the Labour collapse in council elections -- which wags are calling #Starmergeddon -- from Beege Welborne. There are about 5000 seats up for grabs, Labour is expected to lose 1,800, Reform will probably gain 1,580, up from... zero. So this would be more than that.
People claim that while Labour has adopted the Sharia Agenda to appeal to the million Muslims it allowed to migrate to the country, those voters are ditching Labour to vote for the Muslim Independent Party or the Greens. Delicious. This shadenfreude is going straight to my thighs. Oh, and if Starmer loses about as badly as expected, Labour will toss him out of a window Braveheart style and replace him. He will announce he is resigning to spend more time with his Gay Ukrainian Male Prostitutes.
Media bias and senationalism are as old as, well, the media:
![]() That was written by Denny O'Neill and illustrated by, get this, Frank Miller. Editor to the Stars Jim Shooter was in charge at the time. I always thought the gag was original to the comic book, but in fact the "Threat or Menace" headline was a satirical joke about media bias and sensationalism for a long while. The Harvard Lampoon used it in a parody of Life magazine: "Flying Saucers: Threat or Menace?"
