Big Freaking Gun

Nice:

The centerpiece of the XM-109 system is the 25mm HEDP ammunition it fires. A scaled down derivative of the low velocity 30mm HEDP M789 ammunition fired by the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, the MX-109's 25mm ammunition has been judged to be 2.5 times more effective at destroying targets than a .50 caliber armor-piercing round. It is expected that this ammunition can penetrate nearly 40mm (an inch and a half) of armor plating at 500 meters, or blast open doors from around the corner.

To enable the shooter to engage targets out to 2,500 meters, Barrett has developed an integrated ballistic computer/ riflescope system known as BORS (Barrett Optical Ranging System).

The BORS automatically determines the temperature and barometric pressure, as well as the cant or tilt in the rifle itself, and incorporates these enviro-physical factors into its calculations. Once the proper range has been entered, the shooter need only put the target under the crosshairs and pull the trigger.

See the link for pic and more.

So, you can hit a target 1.3 miles away? Yikes!

Okay, let's see those bastard Martians invade us now!

(25mm sniper rifles. Is there anything they can't do?)

Posted by: Pixy Misa on December 3, 2005 12:16 PM

Ace, please tell me that they're also working on miniaturizing a thermobaric warhead into a package small enough to be carried by a 25mm projectile. If they can overcome that obstacle, I think I've found my next deer rifle.

Now if you'll all excuse me, I feel the need to go rub one out. Not that I'm especially turned on by this big freakin' gun, but I just glanced down at my WWDCD bracelet and remembered the consequences of displeasing the VP. After all, it's not always about me; I've got my duties as a citizen of the United States of Cheney to perform.

Posted by: Russ from Winterset on December 3, 2005 12:18 PM

The OICW/XM29 and its spinoff technology the XM25 was working on an airbursting 25mm grenade, designed to hit targets behind protection.

Then there is this bad boy the XM307 that can be converted from a .50 Cal machinegun to a 25mm airburst grenade launcher.

Posted by: Iblis on December 3, 2005 12:37 PM

I no longer need to rub one out. Looking at that gun was better than sweet sweet sex.

Oh also , where can we order a WWDCD bracelet? Or should the just be tattooed into my forehead?

Posted by: Marty on December 3, 2005 12:40 PM

Sure, you COULD buy a WWDCD bracelet in a store, like all the rest of the 13 year old girls...........or you could make your own using piano wire and the metatarsal bones of free-range moonbats. It's all about how much time and creativity you have on your hands.

Wha, no cupholder?

Posted by: Dr. Reo Symes on December 3, 2005 01:18 PM

Dr Symes, I think the cupholder is only available on the Limited Package. According to John Murtha, our military is stretched paper thin, so wouldn't it make sense that the Government Issue sniper rifle foregoes some of the luxury items?

Posted by: Russ from Winterset on December 3, 2005 01:32 PM

Our military is working on larger caliber sniper rifles because of complaints by Vice President Cheney about the difficulty of skull-fucking Al Quaida corpses through .50-cal bullet holes. High ranking sources say his remarks mentioned something about "...camel through the eye of a needle".

(ACE, check the containment field on the Cheney topics. I think you're getting serious leakage.)

Posted by: Russ from Winterset on December 3, 2005 01:35 PM

Dang. Sweet.

Now, if it can be made in semi-auto, and can come with a belt feed, we have the replacement for Maw Deuce. Although I do love the classics (1903 Springfield; Broomstick Mauser; M1911 .45) this can step in as a wonderful replacement for an old work horse.

You know, to reach out, reach out, and touch someone you loathe.

Posted by: Mikey on December 3, 2005 07:02 PM

Mikey, now that the military is talking about bringing the 45acp out of retirement to replace "New Coke"ERRRRR 9x19mm, I guess we could retire the Ma Deuce in favor of the new monster on the block. If they made this new crew-served weapon with a controllable rate of fire (300-500 rpm), it could be suh-weeeeeet!

"Now, if it can be made in semi-auto, and can come with a belt feed, we have the replacement for Maw Deuce. Although I do love the classics (1903 Springfield; Broomstick Mauser"

Mikey, that is sacrilege. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

I started reading this, and though, "Yeah, big deal, 25mm." Then I got further and realized: "Holy crap, it's a RIFLE!!!!!!"

Posted by: John on December 3, 2005 07:25 PM

Mikey: THEY DO. Go back up the comments and hit the link for the XM307...

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
Whoops! I posted about Dan Goldman losing the NY congressional primary. He might do that, but it won't be tonight -- the primary isn't held until June 23.
One race to keep an eye on: the Levi's heir nepo baby and egregious "Designated Liar" Dan Goldman -- one of the Democrats from a safe district Democrats send out to spread their most indefensible lies -- may actually lose his lower Manhattan/Brooklyn set due to, get this, antisemitism in the Democrat primary electorate.
Antisemitism? In the anti-Nazi Democrat Party? Sounds crazy, I know, but apparently the anti-Nazi Party wants to eliminate Jews.

Democrat Senator Rueben Gallego, who served his wife with divorce papers when she was nine months pregnant so that he could marry his side-piece, counsels us that we should not judge Graham Platner for his infidelity because these things are personal matters, Racists:

Sahil Kapur
@sahilkapur

Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., on Platner: "We know that Graham has lived not your typical political experience. He's been very clear and open with his wife, and they worked through whatever they worked through. At the end of the day, this man has had 60 more town halls than Susan Collins has. He's winning the polls, he's willing to accept that he has grown as a person, and I think we should accept that."

Gallego says the drip-drip of revelations won't harm Platner's campaign.

"I think you guys are all in a bubble here right now. The drip, drip that's actually happening is Americans are really, really hurt the fact that gas is still high, food is still high, they can't buy a home, you can't afford rent. They're not going to care about text messages and everything else like that that happened years ago, especially when it was worked out between spouses."

I like that he says that it's okay that Graham Platner sexted 12 different women within months of marrying the woman to sponge off her because he wasn't then "living a political life" -- the clear meaning being, "We all cheat, we just don't cheat when we're running for office, and he didn't know he was running for office when he was sending dicpics to half the women he ran into."
Except he was running: His own wife turned the sexts over to his campaign.
And obviously Reuben Gallego didn't let his "political life" get in the way of his extramarital dating life:
