Flight 93 Memorial Replaced (?)posted by Ace at 02:25 PM
CommentsFor some details on the changes go to a blogger who actually works: Posted by: max on November 30, 2005 02:32 PM
So it's more like a crumpet then. What the f- do the British have to do with Flight 93? A serious conservative should be commissioned to create the memorial. Posted by: compos mentis on November 30, 2005 02:33 PM
"bowl-shaped area," meaning, like, a crater? Amazing that a crater is still an improvement. Posted by: SomeJoe on November 30, 2005 02:41 PM
Hey Minimum!! Just because Ace hasn't been published yet and he hasn't posted the often promised second half judging of the poetry contest does not mean he is unemployed! For your information he's employed in the adult film industry and is so efficient they have him working multiple jobs - fluffer, mop boy, and occasional body double when an actor doesn't feel like doing anal. I got yer back Ace. Um, so to speak. Posted by: compos mentis on November 30, 2005 02:42 PM
I wonder how long it will take for some of those trees to "die" out, thus recreating the arc of "embrase". Posted by: rabidfox on November 30, 2005 02:50 PM
It still sounds like a memorial the New York Times editorial board would approve of--no hint that the passengers did anything heroic, or that anger could be any part of a response to their deaths. Very non-judgmental. A better revision would have been to extend the crescent into a circle, balance it on edge, put intersecting crosshairs in the circle, and aim it at Mecca. Posted by: utron on November 30, 2005 02:56 PM
I just looked at the "new" design in the November Flight 93 memorial newsletter ( in pdf format) I can not immediately see any discernable difference from the original memorial, other than the "cresent of embrace" is now CALLED the "bowl". It's still a stinking red crescent. Posted by: SarahW on November 30, 2005 03:03 PM
The circle enhances the earlier design by putting more emphasis on the crash site, officials said in the newsletter. A break in the trees will symbolize the path the plane took as it crashed. Oh, so they made it a circle with a break in it. i.e., a crescent. Posted by: Lipstick on November 30, 2005 03:11 PM
I'm okay with it, just as long as they replace those stupid windchimes with something tasteful, like a minaret that plays the call to prayer five times a day. You know, something classy. Posted by: Sobek on November 30, 2005 03:17 PM
I think the prayer rugs in the middle are a nice touch. Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on November 30, 2005 03:25 PM
images (cropped from Flight 93 m3morial site): The new "Bowl ". It's essentially the same design , but the the red rim has been extended a short distanceon one side, making the break between the two arms of the crescent shorter in distance.
Posted by: SarahW on November 30, 2005 03:26 PM
Or how about a giant screw pointed at Mecca. Or would that be considered offensive? Posted by: compos mentis on November 30, 2005 03:28 PM
Cuz I know how much compos worries about being offensive..... ;-) Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on November 30, 2005 03:41 PM
LOL RWS. Touché my dear. Touché Posted by: compos mentis on November 30, 2005 04:05 PM
compos...heh. Why don't we just make it a smiley face and get the whole disrepect thing over with for good? Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on November 30, 2005 06:46 PM
The red crescent is only blended in with a few more trees. Both of the crescent tips are still defined exactly as before. The crescent bisector still points to Mecca. There is still an upper section of memorial wall, bisected by the red crescent bisector and containing additional translucent blocks. The Tower of Voices is still an Islamic prayer-time sundial. The whole Flight 93 memorial is still a jihadist shrine! Complete analysis at my link. Posted by: Alec on November 30, 2005 10:38 PM
DID YALL READ THIS???? At LGF: "There are still 44 translucent blocks on the flight path to the crash site, matching the total number of dead, instead of just the forty translucent blocks that are dedicated to the forty murdered Americans." So that means the memorial has blocks for THE FREAKIN HI JACKERS!!!!! Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on December 1, 2005 12:12 AM
I'm not an architect, nor do I play one on TV, but I just don't see what's so friggin' hard about designing an unobjectionable 9/11 memorial. Really, I think most of us could do it. Something pretty, something tasteful, something neutral in most regards (esp. religion). Something nice and unobjectionable everybody could agree with. What is the problem with them?! Why can't they just do this one simple thing right? Do these people wear fucking clown suits to funerals?!! I just Do. Not. Understand. Posted by: sandy burger on December 1, 2005 12:22 AM
I'm cool with anything they come up.
Posted by: Bart on December 1, 2005 12:48 AM
Alec's post belongs 'over the fold' or as a separate post altogether since it makes it clear that the redesign is as bad as the old one. Just my 2 cents. Posted by: max on December 1, 2005 09:10 AM
Will they call it the circile of life? and well a circile wont upset the wussies at the ACLU Posted by: spurwing plover on December 1, 2005 04:56 PM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
