Good News From Iraq

Via Traffic Non-Santa:

KURTZ: Welcome back to RELIABLE SOURCES.

Pam Hess, during Vietnam U.S. officials were often accused of distorting or even lying to the press to try to make it look like the war effort was going better than it was. When you were in Iraq did you feel like you were getting the straight story?

HESS: Certainly from the militarily I did. They have no interest in cooking the books, as it were, they -- they understand that they were blamed for Vietnam and what happened, and they don't want that blame again.

They want people to understand the kind of enemy that they are facing and how long it's going to take. And frankly, most of them said to me, "Please go back and tell them not to pull us out because we are finally at a point where we have enough people here now on the ground between soldiers and Iraqis that we can actually start doing some good and start turning things around. And if you pull us out, we're just going to be back here three years from now."

KURTZ: More optimistic, at least than some of the journalists.

HESS: Yes.

And... A terrific smackdown of Frank (Who?) Rich in the New York Sun.

Certainly better than the performance of Neal Gabler on the Fox-equivalent (I can't remember the name, but it has Cal Thomas on it as the brilliantined voice of reason), who kept shouting "Iraq is a Disaster! Iraq is a Disaster!

Too late. The WH is already signing on with the cut-and-run gang. Midterm elections, you know.

The official statement from the WH now is that the secret White House plan is "remarkably similar" to the plan put forth by the Democrats, which they then called a cut-and-run plan. The new plan is to highlight whatever they can (from the Green Zone), declare victory, and leave.

Whatever. Murtha is probably right that the US presence is doing more harm than good, overall. I posted elsewhere about Allawi claiming Iraq is as bad now regarding abuse as under Saddam.

Posted by: tubino on November 28, 2005 12:08 PM

I'd suggest everyone take a look at this:
International Abuse worse than under Saddam, says Iraqi leader

If the chilling remarks made by Allawi are just a political game, then he's doing a heckuva job... but it looks more serious than that.

Worked for me.

Ooohh, baby.

Posted by: Tubino's Cock on November 28, 2005 12:31 PM

I guess they are using plastic shredders? Rape Rooms? Bombing Villages?

No, of course not. Just more stupid shit.

Posted by: joeindc44 on November 28, 2005 12:55 PM

Of course Allawi would think it was worse. I'm sure Hermann Goering thought Germany was worse in 1946.

Wow. So the PM of Iraq, a CIA-asset supported by the US, is comparable to a high Nazi official.

Okay. That would mean you're IN FAVOR of US forces leaving Iraq, right?

Posted by: tubino on November 28, 2005 01:21 PM

Bombing hospitals.
Death squads.
Paramilitary forces taking people in the night, with the bodies turning up days later.
Using chemical weapons on people.
Secret prisons with torture instruments.
Corruption on a scale in the billions US$.
Lawlessness shown in way-increased kidnappings, car-jackings, etc.

Posted by: tubino on November 28, 2005 01:42 PM

YEAH BABY!

JUST LIKE THAT!

Posted by: Tubino's Cock on November 28, 2005 01:48 PM

Tubby why do you always throw in some link from a lefty site expecting it will actually influence anyone? Why can't you just accept that not everyone agrees that the best thing to do is leave a place that is going through a difficult transition in a region full of terror loving jihadists? We tried it your way. Iran had the UN and world community watching and now is nuclear. Same with N. Korea. Iraqs borders were NOT secure as can be seen daily with the issues with Syria and to suggest otherwise is a joke. Many believe that Iraq's WMD may yet turn up in Syria or have been smuggled out before the war along with much of Saddam's gold and family. In any event, this war was NOT all about WMD and despite the disingenuous chorus of Bush lied, I still support it.

If your contention is that we are causing terrorism by our presence in Iraq, what caused it prior to that? The USS Cole, the first Trade Tower bombings, Kobar Towers, the African Embassys, the second Trade Tower attacks, etc., etc., etc.. None of these happened because we were in Iraq. We are fighting terrorists now in Iraq. If we leave terrorism is not going to extinguish itself. You want to fight them on our shores instead?

Why are you unable to admit and aplaud the changes in the middle east since the war began. Libya has come in from the cold and give up their WMD. Israel and the PLO are finally making real strides. Syria is out of Lebanon and on the brink of either reform or imploding. Saudi Arabia is finally taking terrorism seriously and cracking down. There is a long list. None of this happened by accident or chance.

It took the US a hell of a lot longer than 2 years to establish our democracy. Do you wish we had given up?

I support the troops pulling out just as soon as there is a real Iraqi military capable of defending the country on its own. I do not support them pulling out and letting the country slide into ethnic warfare like Sudan. Wouldn't want another civil war for the UN to ignore.

See, this is the time when the troll starts getting under people's skin.

Fuck him. If he believes anything he writes, he should leave this country.

Posted by: joeindc44 on November 28, 2005 02:30 PM

Tubby why do you always throw in some link from a lefty site

Why do you always characterize anything (here the words of the PM of Iraq) as being from a lefty site?

Are you able to read English? Do you understand what a QUOTE is? Are you able to locate England on a map?

More to the point, are you able to comprehend that what matters is what the PM of Iraq SAID? Can you deal with that?

this war was NOT all about WMD

it was also about abuse of Iraqis, use of chem weapons, etc.

That's why it matters what the PM of Iraq says.

I want a democratic govt in Iraq. I don't think the Cheney admin gives a damn about democracy, or else it is exceedingly incompetent.

The US would make better progress in the GWOT by pulling out of Iraq. That Bush has made that a terrible choice should be recognized as such.

Posted by: tubino on November 28, 2005 04:12 PM

If he believes anything he writes, he should leave this country.

I believe in limited govt power, transparency in govt, and I believe in the US Constitution.

I believe those of you who favor making the US a rogue state, without the checks and balances intended by the founders, should consider leaving.

Don't let the Patriot Act hit you in the Gitmo on your way out.

Oh, baby you know what I like.

Gimme some sugar.

Posted by: Tubino's Cock on November 28, 2005 04:29 PM

Tubino why are you so interested in what the PM of Iraq says? You sure as hell don't believe a word of what the Pres of the United States says.

Or are you unable to understand english?

One of the least attractive qualities of the left is your unfounded belief that your views are insightful and the only truth. Your arrogance is only surpassed by your ignorance.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
