Woodward's Source: Richard Armitage?

So hints Newsweek, and Tom Maguire suggests the reasons he -- "no partisan gunslinger" -- migh have leaked the tidbit.

Bonus: He wasn't a supporter of the Iraq War (being Colin Powell's right-hand man). If he did the leaking at all, it would have been to deride the CIA's ineptness in conducting an investigation, as State thought its intelligence was better.

now i really cannot follow this thing at all. i think diagrams and arrows are needed to explain.

This would be sweet. Not quite as sweet as Powell getting nabbed, but close.

Wow, that whole Fitzmas thing is going straight to National Lampoon hell.

God, who still cares at this point?

I still want to know which French diplomats Joe met.

Taking Armitage out would be a plus. I've seen articles which says Colin Powell was the leaker, whcih is far too much to hope for, but nonetheless it puts a different complexion on the motive force behind the leak.

For the past 100 years the state department has been a seive.

Posted by: on November 21, 2005 02:37 AM

Woodward's revelation destroys the Fitz timeline, since the charges are based on the 'fact' that Libby was the original leaker.

Woodward admits that he might have told Libby, so Libby could simply be mistaken about the reporter's identity - Woodward instead of Russert.

If Woodward's source is Armitage, it destroys the assertion of motive, since Armitage is sympathetic to the Wilson worldview.

Woodward's source has evidently confirmed the story to Fitzgerald. There's nothing left. Fitzgerald can't go to trial.

Posted by: lyle on November 21, 2005 04:46 AM

Come on?

Would the entire media fall on their collective sword for Armitage? No way. It's his boss, Colin Powell, they're protecting.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he were behind the CIA insurection as well as the leaking. He has a really bad case of BDS.

Hiring Colin Powell was the worst mistake this administration has made so far. Never depend on a guy whose ego is larger than his sense of loyalty.

Posted by: Edward R. Murrow on November 21, 2005 09:13 AM

And the other fun fact- If Woodward told Libby, then why would Libby presume that it was (still) classified info?

She claims that criminality is just a "mindset," and I guess that some criminals "identify" as law-abiding, just as many antifa thugs identify as woman, and it's all about what you are "in your mind."
This also means that one can have a criminal "mindset" despite having not yet committed a prosecuted crime. I think this pudgy DEI soon-to-be-ex congresswoman is that kind of criminal. She's got a thug's brain, a drug-dealer's brain, and smash-and-grab brain.
I mean -- as long as we're saying that crime is "just a state of mind."
