Moustapha Akkad, Producer of Halloween Franchise, Killed In Jordanian Bombings

He was attending a wedding with his daughter.

It's possible his killing will further alienate moderate Muslims:

Akkad also produced and directed "The Message" (1976), a film about Islam's prophet, Mohammed, and "Lion of the Desert" (1981), which tells the story of a Muslim rebel who fought against the Italy's World War II conquest of Libya. Both starred Anthony Quinn.

Then again, black Muslims protested the showing of The Message in America, so maybe not.

Thanks to Salomeh.

Just curious, 'black muslims' or friendly chaps from the Nation of Islam?

"Lion of the Desert" is a way cool movie. Oliver Reed plays General Graziani who Mussolini (Rod Steiger) sends to Lybia to put down an Arab rebellion led by Anthony Quinn. Khadaffi funded it, so there was a lot of money for detailed Italian armored cars and proto-tanks and a cast of thousands for huge battle scenes. Great stuff, although long and preachy. Still, can't beat armored columns having it out with Arab nomads.

A shame about Akkad, who directed the movie, too. There's a tribute to his daughter who doed in the blast as well over at Roger Simon's place:

That's okay.

When nobody's looking, he'll just sit up, grab the nearest machete, and start strangling coeds.

Can't vouch for this website's accuracy, but it is consistent with half-remembered stuff from some bad movie book I read once. I don't think I'd mourn for Akkad too much, assuming it's correct.
