Dead Air America: No Measurable Listenership In DCIt's endlessly amusing to me that the left imagined its savior to be the hyper-charismatic, endlessly talented Al Franken. You know, the guy who worked at Saturday Night Live for ninety-three years before Lorne Michaels made him a cast member. Passed over again and again in favor of such greats as Brad Hall, Terry Sweeney, Randy Quaid (!) and Anthony Michael Hall, after he traded steroids for humor. But this was the guy. This was the franchise. The guy who had exactly two funny bits on his three-hundred-forty-two year history on the show -- "The Al Franken Decade" and the first six thousand Stuart Smalley sketches. This legend was going to give birth to a new industry and turn American politics around 180 degrees. What, they couldn't get Jon Lovitz? At least he could do that Master Thespian bit. When The New York Times Was Covering Air America Every Day Of The Week... You know, before they actually debuted, before the network was revealed to be a corrupt embarassment, there was talk by liberals that every day people would say at the water cooler, "Did you hear what Al Franken said today?" You may have to do a search for "Franken," as the link just seems to take you to the top of the archived page. posted by Ace at 12:23 PM

Don't forget Charles Rocket! And Tim Kazurinsky. Wonder what *he's* up to these days. Posted by: Knemon on October 20, 2005 12:36 PM
Charles Rocket. Did anyone catch that he just killed himself recently? Slit his throat. I know Garfield Ridge had a post on it recently. Sad. Posted by: Dr. Reo Symes on October 20, 2005 12:39 PM

Come on, Franken's one-man satellite dish was funny. Especially when he got hit by a Tomahawk missile, or when he got beaten up by crack dealers. Oh, wait? He never actually got injured? That was all just an act? Well, fuck him, then. Cheers, Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on October 20, 2005 12:55 PM
Their appeal has become immeasureably selective. Posted by: tachyonshuggy on October 20, 2005 12:58 PM
Is that a portable satellite hookup in your pants or are you boys just happy to see me strapped to a tree, exposing my cleavage with ever page load? Posted by: Blindfolded Girl on October 20, 2005 12:59 PM

Actually, I was hoping they'd hire "Davis" of the old "Frankin and Davis" spoof show join the cast. It wasn't funny, just amusing. Frankin's problem is that rather than come up with creative ideas enough to fill a small fraction of a 90-minute show, he's got to find ideas and jokes for the whole show, every day. (What is it? Three hours times five days?) And when you figure that many of the ideas really are jokes, this is quite a challenge. Posted by: David on October 22, 2005 11:19 AM

Media bias and senationalism are as old as, well, the media:
![]() That was written by Denny O'Neill and illustrated by, get this, Frank Miller. Editor to the Stars Jim Shooter was in charge at the time. I always thought the gag was original to the comic book, but in fact the "Threat or Menace" headline was a satirical joke about media bias and sensationalism for a long while. The Harvard Lampoon used it in a parody of Life magazine: "Flying Saucers: Threat or Menace?"

But here's the Illinois gerrymander he supports.

ANOTHER LEFT WING ASSASSIN ATTEMPTS TO KILL TRUMP
If I understand this, the left-wing Democrat assassin attempted to get into the White House Correspondents Association dinner, and was stopped at the magnetometers, which detected his gun. I guess he pulled out the gun and was shot by Secret Service agents. Erika Kirk was present.
