Right On Cue: The Excitable One Gets, Well, Excited

Fucking idiot:

If you need further proof that this administration's abandonment of clear Geneva guidelines has clearly undermined the war, then read this [a link to the body-burning story]. The use of religion to taunt and torment the enemy has been going on for a long time now. From smearing inmates with fake menstrual blood, to desecrating the Koran, to forcing one Abu Ghraib prisoner to drink alcohol and eat pork, to burning Muslim corpses facing West ... we now have a litany of abuses that are objectively evil and almost designed to lose us support among the broad Muslim population.

Andrew Sullivan has a wonderfully stupid position on the War. Prosecute it brutally and mercilessly, but, by all means, be scrupulously polite about doing so.

Now he's steamed because we're gay-baiting cowards who come from a homophobic culture. Oh, and we called them cowards for not claiming their dead. And we burned rotting, disease-incubating terrorist bodies.

Is it possible to get gay marriage laws passed in Afghanistan? Can't the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court make some goofy claim of jurisdiction over that state? Seems they rather easily claimed jurisdiction over a matter expressly left to legislators in the Massachusetts Constitution.

Ann Coulter had an interesting point. If, as many "tolerant" folks claim, jihadism is a "perversion" of "true Islam," and terrorists are not in fact practicing real Islamic faith (The Religion of Peace (TM)), then why do those same sort of folks continue insisting these putative heretics be treated with all the panoply of rituals associated with "true Islam"?

And why is it, exactly, that we are expected to respect Muslim traditions (no war during Ramadan) that Muslims themselves tend to take a more lenient attitude about?

I've seen accused Palestinian informers being dragged through the streets until the skin was flayed off their muscles. Presumably this was okay, because they were at least being dragged-to-death in the direction of Mecca, I suppose?

Thanks to Allah.

Destroying the Koran and smearing people with FAKE menstrual blood is now objectively evil? Come on Ace, you gotta be making this up, right?

No, it appears not.

Evil must be a broad term for young Mr. Sullivan. Perhaps 9/11 was gob-smackingly evil?

Posted by: Steve on October 20, 2005 12:00 PM

Dead corpses are covered by Geneva?

What all those fuckers we blew to pieces with B-52s?

Sully is right. Give up now and grab your burka. Let's stone all our gays in advance (starting with him).

Posted by: on October 20, 2005 12:02 PM

He must burst into hot, angry tears every time he watches Saving Rrivate Ryan, when Pvt. Mellish taunts the German prisoners that they've been captured by "Juden."

Posted by: Sean M. on October 20, 2005 12:03 PM

I'm on CENTCOM's email distribution list, and they have officially condemned the actions taken, while also promising to conduct and investigation.

Sullivan-the-fucking-idiot, thinks this is endemic of policy from the top down, and this statement from CENTCOM should quell that.

Here is the CENTCOM release...

Remember in Fight Club when Brad Pitt and Ed Norton where in the bathroom talking about people they wanted to fight? I'd have this conversation:

Pitt: What "infamous/famous" figure would you fight?

Me: I'd fight Andrew Sullivan.

Pitt: Good Answer!

Posted by: TF6S on October 20, 2005 12:04 PM

We don't stone our gays to death or make our women wear burkas. So we are offending Muslims everywhere. Shame on us!!!!!

Posted by: on October 20, 2005 12:04 PM

Why is so easy for him for him to get upset with either things that we have condemned (plus, didn't the Koran story turn out to be false?) or torture techniques that work well on getting vital information that may save lives.

I heard on the radio a guy who writes about Islamic terrorism (chris flynn(?) ) and he said at a conference a woman stood up condemning torture on prisoners and he asked her if there had been an opportunity to get information out of one of the hi- jackers from 9-11 with torture and prevent 9-11, would she be for that? And she said..no. The whole room just groaned.

This is what we are dealing with. A mind so seeped in liberal thought that they can't see the good for the bad.

Pardon my French, but I've said it before about Sully, I'll say it again:

What a fucking pussy.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Just spent some time at Sully's place. Found this, and was disturbed by it. Just - ugh.

AMONG THE ASPENS: Arianna recalls hiking with Judy among the aspens of Colorado. The smack-down between these two sex-vixens is among the few redeeming features of the entire affair.
Judy Miller? Arianna Huffington? "Sex vixens?"

Saw some of the Easy Company fellers the other day pissing standing up and not using a pooper scooper after he did his other business.

Left infidel wee-wee and crap smack dab in the House of Islam (i.e., all of Iraq).

I blame Chimp McBushitler for not teaching these fellers to sit when they whiz and shovel when they shit, per the rules of engagement promulgated by Dag Hummerskold, in the Swedish "Convention on Military Urination and Defecation Whilst in Camel Land."

Just color me bitched, bothered, and gob-smacked in Baghdad.

Sully's cute when he tries to guess at what a heterosexual man might find arousing.

He's not really an expert on heterosexuality, truth be told. Remember, he thought it was plausible that female American soldiers forcibly vaginally raped dirty filthy stinking terrorist scum.

He really did. He figured that was kind of a normal heterosexual female reaction when interrogating a guy with beard so filthy that the ticks and lice called in FEMA for emergency evacuation.

Posted by: ace on October 20, 2005 12:25 PM

Right before this, Sully links to a story about Muslim's beheading a Buddist, setting fire to a temple with two teenagers inside charring their bodies, and all this during the month of Ramadan. Fuck Fey Andy.

Posted by: Sweetmeats on October 20, 2005 12:26 PM

Sullivan is on a mission to singlehandedly demolish the stereotype of gays being unserious and histrionic. So far it's not off to a rollicking start.

As a gay neighbor of mine used to say: "'The Love that Dare Not Speak its Name' now won't shut the f*ck up!"

Posted by: Tom on October 20, 2005 12:29 PM

I don't know why Sullivan invokes the Geneva Convention when our enemies certainly have no intention of abiding by it. Liberals these days seem to want to restrict us to the Marquis of Queensbury rules while our enemies are trying to kick us in the groin.

These idiots don't realize that such behavior will only prolong the war.

Posted by: fasterplease on October 20, 2005 12:35 PM

How's Sullivan's stock doing in the marketplace of public opinion? I mean, is he still getting writing gigs and stuff, and from whom? I'm not all that plugged in, and I'd love to think he's suffering for his hystrionics.

Posted by: S. Weasel on October 20, 2005 12:35 PM

His blog is still worth a bazillion dollars according to Business Opportunities.

I think their formula puts great store by reported bandwidth costs.

Posted by: Nicholas Kronos on October 20, 2005 12:40 PM

Sweetmeats, I think that shows that Sullivan is at least consistent (now, whatever changes in position he's gone through to get here). He's got plenty of outrage and heart-ache to go around.

We might question his priorities and sense of perspective, but he's hardly in the same category as those who either outright deny or try to minimize and "contextualize" the other side's atrocities.

Posted by: Knemon on October 20, 2005 12:42 PM

He's in London's "Sunday Times" every week, and in The New Republic (he was their wunderkind editor back in the late 80s/early 90s) every few weeks.

The blog is probably his primary source of income.

Posted by: Knemon on October 20, 2005 12:43 PM

Phew! I thought Knemon was calling me "sweetmeats." I mean, it's flattering and all...

Posted by: S. Weasel on October 20, 2005 12:44 PM

Knemon,

How is he being consistent? What the G.I.'s did in no way equates with the Muslim barbarity. We cremated dead Taliban bodies. Big friggin deal. We didn't burn teenagers alive in a temple. We didn't behead a Buddhist monk. If he didn't want anyone, anywhere to ever be hurt then he would be consistent.

Posted by: Sweetmeats on October 20, 2005 01:01 PM

I'm still stuck on the WWII accepted practices for 'non-uniformed combatants'.

We didn't sign many of the subsequent 'Geneva Conventions', so... aren't we following the same set of rules?

That being: Field expedient judgement by an officer + shot dead?

There's a reason 'he was shot while escaping' are so prevalent as a cover - because shooting a _non_uniformed enemy met the relevant legal requirements to avoid flak.

Posted by: Al on October 20, 2005 01:33 PM

What? We only burned two of these guys? That's it? And they were dead already?

And they called them names! Oh the human rights abuse, soldiers taunting the enemy. The big bad Americans hurt their widdle feewings. Well shit.

I want an investigation into why these soldiers were wasting time taunting these assholes instead of burning them! Do the corpse hump after you frag the guy.

Posted by: Iblis on October 20, 2005 02:00 PM

The cremation and psyops didn't even occur at the same time. Once again, Sully has sullied himself over an event misreported by a biased, and yes (Oh surprise!), anti-war media. See here.

Posted by: Laddy on October 20, 2005 02:03 PM

Of course, it's barely worth mentioning that we lost a soldier as well as an Afghan in the battle.

We need to be more sensitive after one of our guys gets killed, don't you think?

Posted by: spongeworthy on October 20, 2005 02:47 PM

Yes, Andrew, we should respect all of the beliefs and ceremonies of Islam, just like you respect those of Catholicism.

Damn you, GlaxoSmithKline

Posted by: The Ugly American on October 20, 2005 05:59 PM

I can't believe I used to think this shitbird was smart. Maybe if the guy who plays Will in Will & Grace did one of those public service ads telling poor Andy that wars are an oftentimes nasty little time, he'll stop screeching like my niece when she bangs her head against a table.

Updates on the Labour collapse in council elections -- which wags are calling #Starmergeddon -- from Beege Welborne. There are about 5000 seats up for grabs, Labour is expected to lose 1,800, Reform will probably gain 1,580, up from... zero. So this would be more than that.
People claim that while Labour has adopted the Sharia Agenda to appeal to the million Muslims it allowed to migrate to the country, those voters are ditching Labour to vote for the Muslim Independent Party or the Greens. Delicious. This shadenfreude is going straight to my thighs.
Oh, and if Starmer loses about as badly as expected, Labour will toss him out of a window Braveheart style and replace him. He will announce he is resigning to spend more time with his Gay Ukrainian Male Prostitutes.
