Harold ("Who?") Pinter Wins Nobel Prize For Lunatic Crankery

Well, actually for literature. Gee, wasn't there a time people read his shit? Glad those days are long past.

He's what I like to term an "unhinged asshole":

The playwright said: “The US is really beyond reason now. It is beyond our imagining to know what they are going to do next and what they are prepared to do. There is only one comparison: Nazi Germany.
“Nazi Germany wanted total domination of Europe and they nearly did it. The US wants total domination of the world and is about to consolidate that.

“In a policy document, the US has used the term ‘full-spectrum domination’, that means control of land, sea, air and space, and that is exactly what’s intended and what the US wants to fulfil [sic]. They are quite blatant about it.”

It's amazing to me that smart people are capable of such vicious stupidity. The "full-spectrum domination" he alludes to is a war doctrine, and, as far as I know, no professional military has ever sought something short of full-spectrum domination. No generals, except perhaps a few Italian or French ones, ever proposed the "Let's Get Our Asses Kicked But Not So Badly As To Be Complete Embarassments Partial-Spectrum Semi-Domination" doctrine.

Who's to blame? Well, for once, not Bush, exactly. You.

Pinter blamed “millions of totally deluded American people” for not staging a mass revolt.

A Nobel prize comes with a certain amount of money, doesn't it? It should give Pinter something to live on, because there sure aren't any takers for his plays any more. I remember the unutterable boredom of watching his stuff either on PBS or the CBC, I can't remember after all these years. The only reason I watched was that for some reason Alan Bates was in a lot of his TV productions, and he was pretty darn handsome back in those days.

Hell, Ace, I always thought the Nobel Prize in Literature went to people who were actually READ, you know. Now, a playwright is watched, last play I went to. Subsumed to the director, and the actors. A novelist's work stands alone. A playwright is, well, a hack of sorts. Even if Olivier delivered the lines. Pshaw.

People speak of WorldDomination™ as if its some negative aspiration - yet the far left has been desiring it since the beginning.

The left couches it in terms like "communism", "one world government", and "United Nations".

The Roman's rode the WorldDomination™ gig to some pretty heady heights in their day and only fell apart when they got sloppy and soft letting what amounted to the terrorists of that era run roughshod over them...

...of course that downfall ushered in the DarkAges™ - a time crude and short lives that made the Roman governmental heavy handedness look like a cub scout picnic.

If we are to be branded "imperialists" seeking WorldDomination™ then by god we might as well do the crime if we're going to take the rap for it.

We paid for the toys, we've bought the ticket, lets take the frigging ride and launch a volly of midnight suns over everyone who gives us the slightest pain in the ass.

Seriously, would a lot of the world be better off living under a modern Pax Americana? The Romans weren't plunders - they brought with them highway and civil infrastructure and organized moderately efficient government - some of their infrastructure is STILL in ACTIVE operation to this day.

Some of that Roman infrastructure is being used by people who can't even begin to imagine the greatness that bestowed upon them those artifacts they take for granted today.

The world could do far worse than American WorldDomination™ and has done so often.

Correction: I wrote that Labour is losing 88% (now 87%) of the seats it is "defending." I think that's wrong. The right way to say it is the seats they are contesting -- that is, they don't necessarily already hold these seats, but they have put up a candidate to run for the seat. It's still very bad but not as bad as losing 87% of the seats they already held.

STARMERGEDDON: In early returns, Reform gains 135 seats, Labour loses 90, the Fake Conservatives lose 36 (and I didn't even know they could fall any further), the Lib Dems lose 4, and the Greens gain 6.
