Political Correctness at Odds with ItselfCan Mexico use a buxom, scantily clad model in ads which aim to protect sea turtles? The woman in question is the Argentinian model Dorismar. Here's one of the ads in question. Frankly, I'm shocked and heartened. posted by LauraW. at 11:16 PM
CommentsHmmm...I don't think we have enough evidence to make a judgment. We'll need to see more ads. Posted by: Edward R. Murrow on October 7, 2005 11:24 PM
I'm ok with it. Posted by: Dave in Texas on October 7, 2005 11:27 PM
Daddy likey. Posted by: SWLiP on October 7, 2005 11:34 PM
The advertising campaign features an Argentine model in a swimsuit, giving the camera her loveliest come-hither look. What look? Posted by: CraigC on October 7, 2005 11:38 PM
It's a great ad. Kinda like fighting fire with fire. Posted by: Lipstick on October 7, 2005 11:38 PM
I don't get it. Where's the controversy? She's not even naked or touching herself in a weird way or anything. How is this any different from the type of images you see in a Victoria's Secret ad? Or that Dove "real curves" campaign? :-p I think it's a good ad. "Chicks like this won't sleep with you if you eat turtle eggs," is a powerful argument, even if the women in question wouldn't sleep with you in either case. If it saves just one turtle egg from being eaten by a man so retarded that he thinks turtle eggs are a natural form of Viagra, then it would all be worth it. Jeez don't those guys know about ground rhino horn? That's the stuff that works. Posted by: caspera on October 8, 2005 12:15 AM
Here near Seattle we had the Makah indian tribe trying to resume their cultural heritage... of hunting whales. The Enviros stabbed multiculturalism in the back on that one. Posted by: Al on October 8, 2005 12:22 AM
Ever been to Mehi-ko? They have billboards of women in bikinis holding bags of sugar. Not ridiculous in the context of Mexican advertising. Posted by: Moonbat_One on October 8, 2005 12:54 AM
Is she saying "be nice to the turtles"? Is "turtle" a cute Mexican way of refering to something else? I think the problem may be that in the rest of the world it is 1973, so their feminists are at a particularly shrill, ugly phase. Posted by: Dave Munger on October 8, 2005 01:08 AM
Is she saying "be nice to the turtles"? Rough translation: "My man doesn't require turtle eggs" Are sea turtle eggs supposed to be some sort of aphrodesiac or something? I confess to knowing very little about what drives the clandestine turtle egg market. Posted by: Purple Avenger on October 8, 2005 01:27 AM
I think Dorsimar misses the point: "My Man Doesn't Need Turtle Eggs" Me: Well, Dorsimar, I'm not sleeping with you, I'm dating that chick over there, the one who looks like she's part of the Dove's Real Curves series ... and it's been a tough day at work, and I've got to get up early tomorrow, so howzabout fixing up a 3 turtle egg omlette for me?
Though, I reckon the sales of Rhino horn, bear claw, and tiger whiskers would go up. Posted by: BumperStickerist on October 8, 2005 07:44 AM
All I can think of is the Star Trek episode when the computer is caught in a logic loop. "Removing this politically incorrect ad will protect women, but removing this politcally incorrect ad will hurt turtles, but using this ad will hurt women, but not using this ad will hurt turtles." Smoke starts coming out of his head "Please explain, you are humans, human are not logical, only humans can explain, malfunction, malfunction!" Posted by: Duhggee on October 8, 2005 09:07 AM
If you'll actually read the article lauraw linked to you'll see that yes, men in Mexico are eating turtle eggs under the impression that they're some sort of aphrodisiac, and thus the ad campaign. Though really I think one showing a stringy-haired, lumpy-bodied, shrew-faced feminist holding a basket of eggs with the caption "I feed my man turtle eggs every day -- it's the only way I can get him to have sex with me" would be a more effective turn off. Posted by: Andrea Harris on October 8, 2005 09:34 AM
If a scantily clad model saves more turtles then a fully dressed one, wouldn't being naked save even more? Posted by: scott on October 8, 2005 09:39 AM
There was an article? How'd I miss that? Posted by: Dave in Texas on October 8, 2005 09:42 AM
Turtle egg poaching is so bad down here that Mexican Marines patrolling the beach pass my house at least twice a day from mid June to mid September. Last year they caught two men on the west coast of Mexico with 400,000 eggs in their truck. Posted by: bullwinkle on October 8, 2005 01:33 PM
I had huevos de tortuga after my vasectomy. Damn things swelled up like grapefruit. Posted by: Dave in Texas on October 8, 2005 02:13 PM
...hair, draped seductively over her back... My guess is she likes to have it pulled medium well. Posted by: The Ugly American on October 8, 2005 02:28 PM
men in Mexico are eating turtle eggs under the impression that they're some sort of aphrodisiac Then shouldn't the idea be to get women to eat them? Posted by: VRWC Agent on October 8, 2005 03:57 PM
Sí yo la jodiera a Dorismar, no necesitaría huevos de tortuga tampoco. Posted by: Fláccido Domingo on October 8, 2005 04:08 PM
As long as they're this confused, they haven't won.Who? The turtles? Posted by: SJKevin on October 8, 2005 04:46 PM
She'd look so much hotter if she was dressed in nothing but a pair of tortoise-shell glasses. Whoops. Posted by: Alex on October 8, 2005 05:02 PM
Turtle eggs or no turtle eggs, all I have to say about this Argentinian vision is: ¡Viva la Gaucha! Olé! Posted by: qdpsteve on October 8, 2005 05:50 PM
Yes, I know you've been googling 'Dorismar' with your left hand all day. Posted by: lauraw on October 8, 2005 08:26 PM

What the hell... Peta protests have been knownn to go all the way. When the Mexican government gets her to do that, you'll have a point. Come to think of it, so will every other male . (Ducking) Posted by: Bithead on October 11, 2005 09:46 AM

Few people remember that Norm MacDonald began his career as a ventriloquist
MacDonald's old partner Adam Egot revealed that MacDonald repurposed a bit with one of his ventriloquist dolls -- that he was a "bad guy" who "didn't believe the Holocaust happened" -- for the Norm MacDonald show, in which he claimed Egot didn't believe in the Holocaust. Funniest thing I've read about the Virginia mess. Back when they were hustling the referendum through the assembly both Senators, Warner and Kaine, advised them to go slow and play by the rules. Louise Lucas said she respected them but didn't need advice from the "cuck chair" in the corner. The gerrymandering was overturned and Louise is heading for the big house. Edward G. Robinson voice "where's your cuck now?" I posted his post on twitter and it's gotten 25K views so far. Thanks, Smell the Glove Chris

"It's f**king f**ked."
-- reportedly a genuine comment offered by a "senior Labour source" Correction: I wrote that Labour is losing 88% (now 87%) of the seats it is "defending." I think that's wrong. The right way to say it is the seats they are contesting -- that is, they don't necessarily already hold these seats, but they have put up a candidate to run for the seat. It's still very bad but not as bad as losing 87% of the seats they already held. Basil the Great
"The end of the two party system in the UK" as first the Fake Conservatives and now Labour chooses political suicide rather than simply STOPPING THE INVASION
Incidentally, the only reason this didn't already happen in the US is because of the Very Bad Orange Man (who is right on 85% of all policy calls and extremely, existentially right on 15% of them)
No political party that is NOT also a doomsday religious cult would EVER choose a cataclysmic loss -- and possible extinction as a party -- to support a toxically unpopular favoritism of NON-CITIZEN ILLEGAL MIGRANTS over actual citizen voters.
Only a cult does this.
Now they've lost 84%.
Annunziata Rees-Mogg Update: They've now lost 88% of the seats they're defending. As I mentioned earlier, I think I heard that London will not bail them out, as many of those Labour seats will probably flip to "Muslim Independent" or Green. Detroit's 5am vote will not save them.
Yup, Labour is losing 80% of its seats...
The British Patriot Wow, up to 1700-2100 seats. It's not incredible that this is happening. It's incredible that the Davos crowd is so absolutely determined to privilege Muslim "migrants" over the actual native population who elects them, no matter how loudly the natives scream that they want to be prioritized, that they will gladly self-extinguish as a party rather than simply representing the interests of their own voters. Astonishing. Remember, when they call other people "cultists" -- they are the ones so imprisoned in their social reinforcement and discipline bubbles that they will choose political death rather than dare upset the Karen Enforcement Officers of their cult. Update: Now they've lost 83% of the seats they were defending. (((Dan Hodges))) Nick Lowles
STARMERGEDDON: In early returns, Reform gains 135 seats, Labour loses 90, the Fake Conservatives lose 36 (and I didn't even know they could fall any further), the Lib Dems lose 4, and the Greens gain 6. Note that the only other party gaining seats is the Greens and they're only gaining a handful of seats.
Update: Reform now up 145, Labour down 98. Labour projected to lose Wales -- where they've ruled for 27 years. Fulton County Georgia just discovered 400 boxes of ballots for Labour Update: REF +156, LAB -107, CON -45 Brutal: In four out of five council seats where Labour is defending, they've lost. 80%. I'm sure it's not this simple, but Reform is straight taking Labour's and the "Conservatives'" seats. They've lost almost exactly what Reform gained. If understand this right (and warning, I probably don't), all of London's council seats are up for election, and Labour might lose hugely there, as their old voters abandon them for Reform, Muslim Indenpendents, and the Greens. REF +190, LAB -134, CON -56.
Updates on the Labour collapse in council elections -- which wags are calling #Starmergeddon -- from Beege Welborne. There are about 5000 seats up for grabs, Labour is expected to lose 1,800, Reform will probably gain 1,580, up from... zero. So this would be more than that.
People claim that while Labour has adopted the Sharia Agenda to appeal to the million Muslims it allowed to migrate to the country, those voters are ditching Labour to vote for the Muslim Independent Party or the Greens. Delicious. This shadenfreude is going straight to my thighs. Oh, and if Starmer loses about as badly as expected, Labour will toss him out of a window Braveheart style and replace him. He will announce he is resigning to spend more time with his Gay Ukrainian Male Prostitutes.
Media bias and senationalism are as old as, well, the media:
![]() That was written by Denny O'Neill and illustrated by, get this, Frank Miller. Editor to the Stars Jim Shooter was in charge at the time. I always thought the gag was original to the comic book, but in fact the "Threat or Menace" headline was a satirical joke about media bias and sensationalism for a long while. The Harvard Lampoon used it in a parody of Life magazine: "Flying Saucers: Threat or Menace?"
