Audio: Unanswered Katrina 9-11 Calls

Bush's fault?

I couldn't listen to it. I suspect most of those people didn't survive. But, in the middle of a cat 5 hurricane, how can you expect the poor police to come rescue you?

Posted by: on September 21, 2005 02:19 PM

Especially when the cops are busy looting.

Posted by: bitterman on September 21, 2005 02:30 PM

I didn't recall seeing any footage of Mississippi cops looting.
The death toll wasn't all that devastating in Biloxi, so I'm hoping that a majority of them got through it ok.

Posted by: Hanover on September 21, 2005 02:40 PM

Dear God.

I hope people, especially people with children, heed the warnings when they come this week.

I've also heard no reports of cops in Mississippi looting.

Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 21, 2005 02:52 PM

Nope. Everything went pretty well in Mississippi and they had towns wiped out as well. The REPUBLICAN governor showed true leadership. Maybe he could teach Blanco a thing or two?

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on September 21, 2005 02:57 PM

My pet peeve: People with kids decided to stick it out in Miss. You want to play russian roulette with yourself, fine. But don't make your kids pay with their lives for your dumbass decisions.

Posted by: on September 21, 2005 03:12 PM

Even the NYT can't spin this as Bush's fault.

Posted by: erp on September 21, 2005 03:21 PM

erp

Sure this can be blamed on Bush.... as he did not spend enough money on up-grading the 911 system! An obvious Federal responsibility but since he hates people he spent all that money on Oil. Or pretzals.

Ta da!

If Bush spent money on pretzels, by law he was obligated to allocate additional funding for beer.

Posted by: on September 21, 2005 03:43 PM

FUCK!! They upgraded it to a Cat 5.

Posted by: on September 21, 2005 04:23 PM

In Florida we are told not to expect emergency service in the middle of a hurricane in places that aren't in evacuation zones. That's just the way it is; it's impossible to get a rescue vehicle out in 100 mph winds.

Posted by: Andrea Harris on September 21, 2005 04:50 PM

Probably not any easier in 201 mph winds then, is it?

Rita is gusting to 175 kts.

This is going to be bad.

Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 21, 2005 05:44 PM

Oops. I gots NOLAPD on the brain for some reason.

Posted by: bitterman on September 21, 2005 07:00 PM

200mph is pretty brisk.

I've done close to 200mph in a head down dive skydiving. Flopping onto your belly to slow down to a "sedate" 120mph or so it takes about 4 seconds to burn off the speed.

I can't imagine sticking around for a 200mph hurricane - that would be Oliver Willis Industrial Grade™ stupid.

Posted by: Tony on September 21, 2005 07:50 PM

Well, one thing about Texas -- they're all armed. So, I don't think we'll see much looting.

Posted by: on September 21, 2005 08:33 PM

...one thing about Texas -- they're all armed

YES we are...

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
