Girls Gone Stupid: Video of Landrieu's Retarded Interview

Check out how she keeps saying the buses couldn't have evacuated people, because, as the photo shows, they were underwater, and how Bush only spent more than Clinton on Gulf-area flood control because Bush had these big surpluses.

Also, it's cute how she excuses Mayor Nagin for not getting a few of his thousands of bus drivers to ferry people out of the city because Mayor Nagin has trouble getting his people to work "even on a sunny day," nevermind during a hurricane.

She also says that the Bush Administration doesn't "believe in mass transit," which is why NO's mass transit system couldn't run in the run-up to the storm's landfall.

Remind me again: Which branch of the federal government has an emergency cadre of disaster-condition bus-drivers on its payroll, ready for 24 hour deployment?

Do they parachute in, I wonder, and immediately doff their smart-looking Federal Emergency Bus Driver caps?

Well This Explains It! Mayor Nagin was formerly an executive in the cable television industry.

Apparently the poor citizens of NO were told to be home "from Sunday to Friday" to wait for their prompt emergency-evacuation, plus Cinemax On-Demand for an extra $4.88 per month. Nothing relieves the stress of a disaster like watching The Red Shoes Diaries or Busty Cops.

Okay, I Admit It, This Looks Bad: Bush really shouldn't have posed for this picture.

Hey, nice striped bass! I wonder what kind of jig they used? Trolling must be hard though with all those bodies floating around.

She's also angry about the levees that were never built in Orlando, Florida. That's not a joke. She really said that. She must not know that the 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea ride closed years ago.

I wonder if Senator Lott could get away with making a statement like that.

Posted by: The Ugly American on September 12, 2005 03:20 PM

Somewhat (but not really) O/T:

FEMA Director Michael Brown has resigned. No question, his continued presence was a distraction, but I think he's getting a bum rap. Besides, I'm more and more opposed to ever giving the moonbats what they want. It's a bit like trying to drive off a grizzly by giving him pieces of fried chicken.

Democrat + Racist Comment = Free Pass

Posted by: The Ugly American on September 12, 2005 03:41 PM

Watching the reaction to John Roberts' opening statement and Senator Patrick Leahy is in front of the microphone.

Is it just me, or does he constantly have a pinched, unhappy look on his face? It's the look of a guy who has made lemon-sucking a normal part of his daily routine.

Now Ted Kennedy is on, and he mentioned Hurricane Katrina again. This is the third or fourth time it was mentioned in the hearings. I think they're in danger of overplaying their hand, if they haven't done so already.

Posted by: Slublog on September 12, 2005 03:42 PM

The Ugly American,

I don't see how ANYONE could get away with that statement!!!! Imagine a Republican saying that?

I swear, if you're a Dem, you can get away with saying anything.

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on September 12, 2005 03:49 PM

"Hey Sean Penn. How's your fishin' doin'?"

Posted by: CUS on September 12, 2005 04:25 PM

Meanwhile, the power just went out in Los Angeles.

I'm betting on problems with the one of the "intertie" systems that brings in power from northern California. There are two big AC lines and one big DC line, and the DC line was damaged last month. Looking at the maps I've found online, I'm more inclined to think it's the DC intertie (either by accident or by intention).

Posted by: cirby on September 12, 2005 04:34 PM

"It's a bit like trying to drive off a grizzly by giving him pieces of fried chicken."

The thing is, I think it's becoming a little more like... what'd be a proper analogy, "driving a raccoon away by leaving the lid off the lid off the garbage can?" Because ultimately, who gives a shit about raccoons, unless they're rabid?

Hmm, maybe the analogy doesn't work, then, but really, I think the moonbats and everybody else are slow to realize that they're becoming increasingly irrelevant.

They already got Gannon.
We have nothing else of value for them to take.

Posted by: lauraw on September 12, 2005 04:49 PM

I am so very, very tired of the "no drivers" argument. You simply select one of the evacuees and tell him that he is now a bus driver. Improvise, adapt and overcome.

We will deal with the bus driver's union later.

Posted by: cole on September 12, 2005 05:08 PM

With NO instantly degenerating into the Roadwarrior, lets see how long it takes before LA comes to this
because of the blackout.

What Hollywood Stars will take to patroling their streets ala Penn in NO?

Posted by: on September 12, 2005 05:29 PM

Man, was Landrieu ever pissed by the end of that interview. Clearly, she's not use to being questioned. There's one advantage to having the media on the other side: our guys get used to the grilling, theirs never had to. If ever a moderately fair press started in on those guys, it would be like Pinhead Day at the Circus.

She blames Ronald Reagan. Sweet jesus.

Posted by: S. Weasel on September 12, 2005 05:37 PM

Posted by: BumperStickerist on September 12, 2005 06:09 PM

Damn, that woman is an idiot. LOL. And yeah, she was livid at the end of the interview. Good job, Mr. Wallace.

Posted by: Sean on September 12, 2005 06:13 PM

It was with great pleasure that I voted against that dingbat.

A while back, while discussing a job application for a position in Boston with my wife, we were weighing the pros and cons and I observed, "Hey, we'd get to vote against Ted Kennedy!" So, there's always a silver lining. Granted, Landrieu is no Ted Kennedy, but I'll take what I can get.

Posted by: Sobek on September 12, 2005 06:17 PM

She's certainly not an idiot and she's not a "dingbat" either. :/ And she's been doing a lot better recently, supporting the President a lot and nearly doubling her (admittedly abysmal) ACU lifetime rating of 17 to 32 last year. I admit that a lot of her comments have been very ill-advised, but come on, you're all talking about her like she's Howard Dean or something. There's no call for that.

Posted by: Megan on September 12, 2005 06:31 PM

Megan, do you have a crush on this woman or something? "Ill-advised"? Hello, by who, Shakes the Clown?

I'm sorry, I guess I just have a low tolerance level for lady senators who fake-tear up on tv and throw "I'm gonna hit the president!" toddler-level tantrums.

Posted by: Andrea Harris on September 12, 2005 06:38 PM

She's certainly no Howard Dean, I'll grant you that, but then that's not saying much. Oliver Willis is no Michael Moore, but that doesn't mean he's attractive, svelte or articulate.

Posted by: Sobek on September 12, 2005 06:42 PM

Megan...did you watch the interview?

I caught the show last night in replay on my local Fox affiliate. I laughed so hard that I kept waking myself up throughout the night. Finally, about 3:30 in the morning, I called my voice mail and left myself a message to remember to look for the transcript.

The look on Chris Wallace's face when she responded to his question about the buses was priceless.

You could almost read on his face the "OMG! I can't believe I got this on tape!"

Posted by: JMFLYNNY on September 12, 2005 06:42 PM

:(

She's my aunt Andrea. But that aside, I'm just saying it's politics, she's not an idiot and she's not some kind of insane moonbat leftie; she doesn't go saying things like this on a regular basis (and yes I fully admit a lot of her recent rhetoric has been indefensible) and she has in fact been helping us out quite a bit recently. You all are of course under no obligation to cut anyone any slack; I just think it might be more productive to focus on the people who really bear the responsibility for this disaster. That wouldn't be a US Senator. That would be people like Blanco and Nagin.

(God, this is getting difficult. Just... get off the screen and stay off, Auntie Mary, please.)

Posted by: Marc on September 12, 2005 07:27 PM

everytime one of these dem douchebags starts finger-pointing and blaming Bush for the hurricane, then gets questioned about local and state responsibilities, they start with the- "look, theres plenty of blame to go around here, and we'll get to that soon enough, but now's not the time for finger-pointing"- bullshit. then it's back to blame Bush for everything.

Posted by: elcid016187 on September 12, 2005 07:51 PM

Sure, whatever you say...we understand ;->

Posted by: on September 12, 2005 07:55 PM

(God, this is getting difficult. Just... get off the screen and stay off, Auntie Mary, please.)

Good advice. She has an "I'm not an idiot" track record, but there are skeletons in them there closets (funding shenanigans), plus she ran her mouth last week and her team should have warned her it would come back to haunt,

and she committed the most unforgivable political sin - she wasn't ready for those questions, and she let her temper make her say stupid stuff.

Will it hurt her? No,

Would I respect her more if she'd lay off the "git Bush" stuff?

yeah. maybe.

She's your aunt? Well, that's just -- let's just say when one of my relatives goes off on a reason-free bender, I don't feel obligated by family ties to soft-pedal their stupidity. Let me be frank: someone with her responsibilities (member of Congress, the legislative body of the country that is the leader of the free world*) should not be playing Melanie Wilkes one moment, Scarlett O'Hara the next on network tv in front of God and everybody. Especially when she has the acting talent of neither Olivia de Havilland nor Vivien Leigh. Basically she has come off in all her televised appearances as a Southern belle in full snit, and she's set back the cause of women "belonging in the House and the Senate," as the feminist joke goes, about one hundred years. Since you're a relative feel free to pass on my opinions.

By the way, "she has helped us out" -- is this familial waggon-circling? So far all she's done is add another nail to the coffin of national regard for politics in Louisiana -- doesn't look like much of a favor to me. Excuse me, but it really pisses me off when lady lawmakers turn on the waterworks to get their way. The heck with the nonsense about the underwater buses -- I'm talking about "one! little! crane! (sobsobsob)" GMAFB.

Posted by: Andrea Harris on September 12, 2005 08:14 PM

"Will it hurt her? No"

Sadly, I have to agree with Dave in Texas: the rest of America seems to consist of mush-brained easy pumps who turn on a dime at the faintest sound of weeping. I'm obviously in the minority; I think Bush's response so far to everything that's hit him has been too sof-hearted and responsive to the Sobsister-American voting bloc. Then again, they outnumber by about 90% the Sensible-Americans.

Posted by: Andrea Harris on September 12, 2005 08:17 PM

"soft-hearted" -- well you know what I mean.

Posted by: Andrea Harris on September 12, 2005 08:18 PM

I should elaborate that by funding shenanigans, I don't mean campaign, I mean accountability for federal dollars spent on pet projects in LA. Obviously Landrieu's responsibility for that starts and ends with what she managed to secure funds for, and the necessity of those projects. Doesn't make her a bad senator (actually, most people think that makes you a good one), nor unique.

The finagling on the "COE - redo your numbers" stuff comes to mind.

Bob Somerby hates Bush so much that I assume he wouldn't piss on Bush if he were on fire, yet he continues to refuse to buy the bullshit aspects of the Katrina story. I've developing a whole new respect for him.

Posted by: Hubris on September 12, 2005 08:46 PM

Half my relatives are dumb as a bag of rocks...and that's being kinda harsh on rocks.

Posted by: Tony on September 12, 2005 08:49 PM

Somerby on Koppel chiding Brown:

“Don't you guys watch television?” the phony man scolded. “Our reporters have been reporting about it for more than just today.” But in fact, Ted’s reporters had not been reporting it until that day; according to the Nexis archives, ABC’s first mention of the Convention Center occurred at 2:30 that afternoon (9/1), in a George Stephanopoulos “Special Report.” Before that, the Convention Center had never been mentioned on Nightline. It had never been mentioned on World News Tonight. It had never been mentioned on Good Morning America. According to Nexis, ABC viewers first learned about the Convention Center at mid-day Thursday—just like Brown, who Koppel scolded in his latest inaccurate report.

And these idjits all love to drink heavily while hunting. Idiots, strong drink, and firearms -- you can almost see the Grim Reaper following them around.

But they's good hearted idiots, all the same. I love ever' bullet-headed one of 'em.

Posted by: Monty on September 12, 2005 08:53 PM

I think Ted Koppel's toupee prevents oxygen from reaching his brain. (Now I guess I'll get Koppel's grandson chiding me -- "It's his real hair!" And it can be used as a flotation device in the case of a plane crash over open water!)

Much of the blame can be laid on Fred and digitalbrownshirt, who, in a previous thread, taught the technological neophytes in the Ace of Spades Lifestyle™ community the arcana of acquiring a free URL at Blogspot and then hiding it behind an anonymous proxy server.

Personally, I would never lower myself to indulge in such a cheap stunt. And I really don't have the time to master the technologies involved. But others will.

Ace, you never should have mentioned you were banning Cedarford. Now everyone's going to do "let's pretend to be Cedarford! Oh, teh funny!" forever.

Just delete every post that identifies itself as being from Cedarford, and problem solved. Here's why:

Cedarford is going to want credit for his awesomely brilliant thoughts, so it would probably kill him to hide under an alias. So he'll probably just leave. If he doesn't just block the new person acting obnoxious. And if he can hide out under an alias and tone it down enough not to be recognized, then that's fine, too.

And by tossing out every "Cedarford" post, real or fake, you make it not a very good joke to pose as him, since odds are very few people will ever see it.

Man, I hate this guy.

How does olberman keep his job? Is he related to the head of NBC or what? He's got no talent at all and there's 10 year old children with more common sense than him.

Posted by: digitalbrownshirt on September 12, 2005 09:48 PM

Keith (who?) Olbermann isn't worth the effort.

A lot of people discovered that having emergency supplies and tools on hand might save your life.

If Olbermann could get over his BDS, he'd recognize that. He can't, so all the better for us.

Hubris, a lib friend of mine spent all last week spitting out the leftist talking points on Katrina. I referred her to Somerby, who she reads often cause he is a Bush hater (she loved the Gore stories stuff).

Two of his posts shut her up completely, today's, and the one on Friday chastising pseudo-libs for pushing Americans further to the right.

She was a little grouchy today. Didn't want to talk about it though.

I don't blame her. Dems have already quit pretending they want hearings.

I would have loved those myself.

Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 12, 2005 09:49 PM

"By the way, "she has helped us out" -- is this familial waggon-circling?"

[sigh] No, Andrea, it's political reality - she was one of the 14 Senators who brought about the filibuster compromise. I said then that it was a winning position for the GOP and for the President, and so far I've been right about that.

Criticize her however you please for whatever you please, I'm not objecting. It's not as if I agree with her politics either. I just don't like it when y'all call her names.

Posted by: Megan on September 12, 2005 09:50 PM

Guys,

I don't mind Cedarford satires. I won't ban obvious parodies. FWIW, I laughed at the "Cedarford" post.

There's a big difference between saying "the joooooos did it" and actual antisemitism.

Posted by: ace on September 12, 2005 09:50 PM

Although, to be fair to Cedarford, no one should post under his name. Because no one likes to see words falsely attributed to oneself. Even if it's obviously in jest, some people will pitch a bitch.

And I don't want to give him an excuse to come in back here.

So please, if you do a parody, make it clear that's not really Cedardford, by calling yourself Cedarford (Not Really) or Cedarford* or Cedarford Junior or the like.

It's just bad netiquette to post under someone else's name.

Posted by: Bob Dole on September 12, 2005 09:54 PM

Bob:

You're right. I feel pretty ashamed of myself right now. I owe you and the entire AOSHQ family an apology.

I did the Cedarford parody, and I should not have used his exact name. Right now, I just feel lower than a tick with Lyme disease latched onto the scrotum of a deer in Dave in Texas' garden.

If I can say anything in my defense, it's just that, well, dammit , I miss the guy sooo much!

Posted by: Slublog on September 12, 2005 10:10 PM

Actually, Ace is not a 'puppet' of the Zionists per se, but in fact is a zionist himself. Just examine the evidence - he's from New York, he's a powerful media figure and he loves the movie Nighthawks, which was written by David Shaber, who was paid by the Mossad to spread messages via entertainment.

The movie in question can be seen as a metaphor for the way the Zionist state tries to hunt down freedom fighters.

It's obvious, if you know what to look for.

It helps if you're crazy.

See, that's the thing. About half a dozen people on this site have claimed to be the pool boy for Mrs. Michael.

As an exercise in pure logic, they are postulating mutually exclusive hypothesese, and probably they are all lying.

Well, let's think this through. I'm a logical person. In theory, Mrs. Michael could, I suppose, have multiple pool boys. So, theoretically, everyone could be telling the truth.

Hmmmmm.

Actually with Ace's patented Moron-Blog Software (tm) all you need to do is lie in the name box. Sure Ace can poke around in the arcane box and see your IP Freely to guess who it really is, but that would require him to care.

And as long as your not threatening death on someone or criticising da blacks, we're home free.

Hmm. Every other Cederford screed started out with a note about how you're never allowed to criticise the Joooos. And they were allowed to stay. But when he started racist anti black diatribes he got da boot. Does Cedarford even appreciate the irony in that?

When Chrenkoff closes down his blog to take a real job, we'll be rid of moonbat extraordinary, Josh S. Narins. All Ace has to do is close down and get a paying job and we'd be rid of Cedarford.

btw, is it just me or has Ace's site been slow as molasses all day?

I noticed a few sites were slow today, looked like BlogAds was slowing them down.

Oh, so Ace's yearning for the filthy lucre is causing us to lose access to the Son of Gannon.

Ace, your centurions demand you lead us against the villainous forces of BlogAds.

More! More loading speed for your centurions!

I think that Landrieu is just upset because Bush wouldn't fund her New Orleans subway project.
BTW Megan if you have an office that you rarely go to, a cleaning staff and a maid at your home who will fetch your coffee than one can only reach the conclusion that you yourself are on the Senator's payroll.

"The filibuster compromise"? What does that have to do with the current crisis? Hey, Nagin apparently cleaned up (some) corruption in the NOLA police force back in the day -- that doesn't excuse him for his current behavior.

And I'm not calling auntie names. Believe me, when I call people names, I do so in a most unambiguous manner.

Steve - "Megan if you have an office that you rarely go to, a cleaning staff and a maid at your home who will fetch your coffee than one can only reach the conclusion that you yourself are on the Senator's payroll."

Nah. I doubt too many Senators could afford me since I make more than most of them.

Andrea - "What does that have to do with the current crisis?"

Nothing, except it backs up the fact that she doesn't deserve to get lumped in with the crazy Dems. She's a Dem, yes. But she's not a nutjob, and she's not a rank-and-file knee-jerk partisan, as some people implied (see above).

Anyway, her decisions are her own and I really can't defend them, so I'm going to stop talking about her. All I was asking for was civility but (sigh) it's a fact that she threw the first punch. I may wish she hadn't but she did, so say what you please and I'll shut up.

"Nagin apparently cleaned up (some) corruption in the NOLA police force back in the day"

Nah. Just replaced it with his own.

I remember picking up a blonde, big-boned girl named Mary at a Mensa party in NOLA about 1984. She is about the right age and the Senator sure looks familar. Plus, I do remember she was VERY oral...

But, then again, it was a Mensa party....

[This is a crosspost from the 'warp drive aircraft carriers' thread, but appropo here I believe.]

"Also, it's cute how she excuses Mayor Nagin for not getting a few of his thousands of bus drivers to ferry people out of the city because Mayor Nagin has trouble getting his people to work "even on a sunny day," nevermind during a hurricane."

The plan clearly addresses the use of buses to be used for evacuations (Supliment 1A (Southeast Louisiana Hurricane Evacuation and Sheltering Plan) :
=====

"The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating."

The Louisiana State Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) further states, (and it is common boilerplate evacuation procedure within a state or local jurisdication) that state and local employees and other resources from unaffected or lightly affected areas can be utilized to help out in heavily affected areas.

There are your buses and your drivers Nagin and Blanco! Where were your brains? Where were your hearts?

They did not follow their own plan to save lives in a time of disaster. In my book, that is criminal negligence.

No one to drive the busses? Really?

They found someone to drive them around and pick up those folks on election day, got them to the polls to vote.

Then left those same people to die when the hurricane came.

Couldn't find anyone to drive the busses!!! That ole dog won't hunt.

The trains, last time checked, Amtrak comes with its own little engineers, and the trains pulled out of New Orleans, empty.

We should prosecute Blanco and Nagin and Mary Landrieu, for goodness sakes, shut up!!!
