Sierra Club Sued To Block Army Corps Of Engineers Upgrades To Mississippi River Levees

They stated they wanted to keep the area "wet and wild."

I guess they got their wish, eh?

The Red Cross site yesterday had a FAQ section which explained that the Red Cross was not permitted to enter New Orleans during the calamity.

That particular bit of script was removed.

Where's Allah's Stalin pic?

Ugh, my bad. The FAQ are jsut harder to find now.

Jeez I suck

Posted by: lauraw on September 8, 2005 05:18 PM

but did the Sierra Club manage to save the yellow speckled plovers?

Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 8, 2005 05:23 PM

Oh come on - except for a statistically insignificant few exceptions, only poor people died - think of it rather as that the Sierra Club's actions will help reduce spending on wasteful social programs like welfare, food-stamps, and Medicaid. As an added bonus, large numbers of those unpleasant, and now displaced, underclass types will never be able to return to New Orleans - a sort of social cleansing that should, in the long run, raise property values for the good folk when they return to the historic and beautiful Big Easy. Look on the bright side!

Very nice Mark.

I'd like to take this time to observe that New Orleans is a Democratic stronghold, and as such, yes, a teeming den of vice and iniquity.

Funny how the Dems help the 'little people.'

Keep them dependent their whole lives- then, in a time of catastrophe, say "You are on your own." And act shocked when their constituents die by the thousands.

Fuck you, pal.

Its no wonder you morons keep losing elections; your programs are failures and you can't really help anybody.

You know how sometimes a disaster has cathartic effect?

This may be one of those.
There's a lot of...CRAP that kind of fell out all over the place that was tightly held under wraps for a long time. I'm not talking about race, that's a stupid MSM harping-point.

Kind of like when you have a huge mess in one room of your house. And finally, because there was a paper avalanche or something, you can't ignore it anymore and you have to go slogging in there and straighten the whole thing out.

Is this the end? Can we finally as a unified people figure out these most elemental problems?
Its disgusting how many people died. It is. I can't stand it, and thinking about it, and about HOW they died, makes me fucking nuts out of my head.

Here are some questions I'd like answered:

Why were these people poor?

Why were these people ignorant?

Why were these people so helpless, that they literally couldn't even do the first basic thing they could do to insure their survival; get out of town. They were literally so helpless they could not even do what most Americans wouldn't think twice about doing; go from here, to over there.

The people who could take care of themselves, DID. And that was a boon of unknown dimensions to the following rescue work.
Not only that, but people who can take care of themselves can help others. At worst, they don't hinder others.

How can we as Americans allow whole enclaves of poor, ignorant, helpless people to exist in our major cities?

Posted by: lauraw on September 8, 2005 08:42 PM

Great. Now force the wankers to live here.

Posted by: Cybrludite on September 8, 2005 08:53 PM

These lefties really don't get it. Those people who left are potentially all future Conservatives once they get out from under the Dumocrats. It's only while people are under the welfare state that they're will to vote left. Once out, they'll never go back to the dimocrats. Spelling by ace

This is an indictment of the welfare state. You give up your personal responsibilities, or allow them to be taken from you, in exchange for someone else looking out for you. After several generations your family line loses the collective knowledge of being self-reliant. Your family's oral history has explanations as to why nobody in living memory has been employed. You start down the slippery slope until the day comes when you DROWN because it's not YOUR responsibility to save YOU.

None of this applies to the aged and infirm.

We really can't stop them -- but we can remove the institutional structures which reward them staying poor, ignorant, and helpless...

Humans aren't Pavlov's dogs, they don't HAVE to salivate when some politician rings a bell... but they usually learn to do it anyway.
