What Happened To Traffic Today?

I seem to be having a big day without any huge links. And so does virtually everyone else.

Did SiteMeter change the way it records hit to capture and log more of them? Why is everyone up 20-50% today?

See? double posting is part of it.

Posted by: john on September 7, 2005 12:07 AM

I've only been using the sitemeter since the weekend. First couple days, about 45-50 hits, today, around 380. I just assumed it was all of that Ace-a-lanche traffic.

Posted by: digitalbrownshirt on September 7, 2005 12:08 AM

I think folks aren't getting the info they need from the MSM, and have turned to the internet instead. I'm getting a lot of traffic from search engines with folks trying to find out more about Kanye West, Ray Nagin, Louisiana Prison evacuations, and other Katrina-related stuff.

Posted by: Confederate Yankee on September 7, 2005 12:25 AM

Kanye West, Ray Nagin, Louisiana Prison evacuations, and other Katrina-related stuff.

So if I did a story using all of those words? hmm.

Posted by: digitalbrownshirt on September 7, 2005 12:29 AM

Plus there's bunches of us that no longer bother to rely on the old leftist MSM sources. Big story = Big checking on the New Media.

Posted by: Enas Yorl on September 7, 2005 12:33 AM

I can see it now:

Louisiana Prison Evacuations proceed smoothly thanks to Kayne West and Ray Nagin.

That'll boost the ol' traffic count.

Posted by: Hal on September 7, 2005 12:35 AM

DBS, CY and Ray,

Mention Laurie Dhue, Juliet Huddy and Kirin Chetry and you're set.

Posted by: John from WuzzaDem on September 7, 2005 12:40 AM

I'd like to believe this is just the blogosphere expanding, but it's a weird thing to just happen all of a sudden one day.

True, there's a lot of news lately, but there's been a lot of Katrina news for a week... why all of a sudden does traffic spike today?

Posted by: ace on September 7, 2005 12:42 AM

I question the timing.

Posted by: Tony on September 7, 2005 12:42 AM

I turned my TV off after Rehnquist passed away-I knew that I would have an aneurism or shoot (a la Elvis). I have stayed on the computer more to get news and make donations.

I even got mad at FOX-

I wonder if ratings will reflect this....

Emeril LeGasse will be my anchor man from now on.

Posted by: from the south on September 7, 2005 12:43 AM

My traffic spiked as well.

A lot of hits from technorati. And a lot of jerkoff Stones fans searching for the lyrics to "Sweet Neo Con," which I wrote about weeks ago.

The amount of nastygrams I've gotten for that one post is amazing.

Posted by: Slublog on September 7, 2005 12:44 AM

Nastygrams are a good thing - inflamed moonbats get vocal. When moonbats get vocal, they lose elections.

A positive development in NOLA, we've snagged one of the scumbags shooting at relief copters:SNIPER ARRESTED

Apparently he didn't resist enough and had to be arrested rather than canceled.

Posted by: Tony on September 7, 2005 12:58 AM

Yeah, I love hate mail. I've been getting it for my writing since college, when I was the only conservative columnist in a paper full of liberals on a liberal campus.

My favorite email was from a Stones fan irate that I didn't like their music or bow down before the mighty Jagger. His opening line?

"You are such an asshole."

His piercing argument?

"The Rolling Stones are the greatest rock and roll band in the world."

Heh. Laugh out loud funny.

Posted by: Slublog on September 7, 2005 01:02 AM

Stones = posers
Beatles = poofy posers (Harrison was OK though)

Anyone with a few nurons firing knows the Sex Pistols were the greatest rock and roll band ever. Its been definitively proven - because I said so.

Posted by: Tony on September 7, 2005 01:22 AM

C'mon,

Just because Mick wrote some goofy lyrics on the worst song on thier new album is no exuse for slagging the Stones.

I saw them live a week ago, and they were excellent. And BTW, they didn't play "Sweet NeoCon". Apparently KR is no fan of the song.

Posted by: djc on September 7, 2005 01:40 AM

Well, I'd love to be able to comment, because my traffic is usually pretty stable in the incredibly low numbers, but greyhawk over at Mudville mentioned one of my posts the other day and I've been spiking ever since, so I can't tell if it's a change at SiteMeter, or if it's traffic from an A-list blogger.

Shameless begging follows: Avert your eyes.
Speaking of A-list bloggers.....how do I get AoSHQ to link to me in a post? :-)

Posted by: David Earney on September 7, 2005 01:47 AM

They're not the "greatest band in the world," but at least the Stones pre-dated the '90s era of whine-rock.

Posted by: geoff on September 7, 2005 01:47 AM

I'm getting tons of hits for the Wolf Blitzer 'they are so poor and so black' comments and also for people searching for info on that guy Russell Honore who is running the show down there. But, yes, a very welcome spike.

Posted by: Karol on September 7, 2005 01:49 AM

Server traffic is normal, so it might just be a Sitemeter blip.

Posted by: Pixy Misa on September 7, 2005 02:46 AM

My first thought was "The Astrodome is now wired. Probably other evacuation centers also. That's at least 100,000 potential surfers looking for their friends, neighbors and families and answers to their questions about what happened to my home? and what will happen to me now?.

Posted by: Debo on September 7, 2005 02:54 AM

Umm..people returning to work after a long weekend and checking the web for the first time in three days?

Posted by: See-Dubya on September 7, 2005 03:24 AM

Too obvious, that's exactly what "they" want you to think.

Posted by: digitalbrownshirt on September 7, 2005 06:49 AM

Whittleanche. He posts, and the moonbats go bugshit taking down the names of all the filthy right-wing sycophant backslappers.

Apparently, we'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Posted by: apotheosis on September 7, 2005 07:40 AM

My site had a big day as well. Looking at my referrals, I saw that I got a TON of traffic from a 3 day old track back I did to WILLisms.com. Go figure.

Also, my google and yahoo hits are out of this world. Mainly hurricane related searches.

It was a very strange day indeed. Maybe I should post crap more often! :-)

Here is my graph showing yesterday

Posted by: WunderKraut on September 7, 2005 08:17 AM

Even my crappy stats were up 20% yesterday...

Something is afoot because that just can't happen...

Posted by: Sinner on September 7, 2005 08:38 AM

I posted the link to Ace in my crappy LJ blog

http://www.livejournal.com/users/azrael556

bu that would get you two hits max since no one really reads it.

Now I have a question, can someone give me a decent definition of a neo-con and tell me why the hell someone who didn't know me would call me one? Oil-paid Halliburton mercenary I could figure, but why am I a neo-con?

Posted by: SGT Dan on September 7, 2005 08:53 AM

Just because Mick wrote some goofy lyrics on the worst song on thier new album is no exuse for slagging the Stones.

Sorry. Just not a big fan. And I was giving them grief more for being senior citizens trying to relive their wild youth than for 'Sweet Neo Con.'

I like some of their stuff, but most of it just doesn't appeal.

Posted by: Slublog on September 7, 2005 09:08 AM

Dammit, and here I thought I was just having a real good day on Monday. But yeah, I noticed it too.

Of course, someone found Garfield Ridge after searching yesterday for "pooh, number two, feces" on some Japanese search engine, so maybe I'm now big in Japan, like a Yokohama Hasselhoff or something.

Of course, it could also be inflation? F'ing Greenspan.

Anyway, as nice as the traffic spike is, it's meaningless if *everyone* went up at the same time. Ain't that America, nobody can ever get an "F" anymore, we all get gold stars and pshrinks asking about our feelings.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on September 7, 2005 09:26 AM

Uhh, I meant Tuesday. Damn three-day weekends, eff up my calendar for the whole week. . .

Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on September 7, 2005 09:27 AM

No mystery. We're all desperate for the info and perspective we're not getting from the MSM. ABC promised to investigate responsibility for the 'cane problems at all levels last nite and I watched, just wondering what they'd do. Gag, what was I thinking? In the report I saw, "all levels" apparently means find fault w/ FEMA and Bush. No mention of NOLA/LA evac plans, delayed requests by the locals, etc. Time is better spent on the blogs.

Posted by: SGT Dan on September 7, 2005 06:15 PM

No spike here. But I wasn't talking about Kayne West, Ray Nagin, Louisiana Prison evacuations, or other Katrina-related stuff.

Posted by: on September 7, 2005 11:11 PM

Check out this spike.

Thanks again Ace.
