Katrina StuffSome of the rumors of rape and child-murder are looking like urban legends. Smells like teen insurgents: A Wisconsin paper has banned the use of the word "looting," deciding the nonjudgmental "taking" is appropriate in all cases... even when it obviously is looting. Apparently Govenor Blanco doesn't have any juice with the CIA. Mayor Nagin just began pointing fingers at her: NOLA Mayor Nagin interview w/Soledad O'Brien in which he says Gov. Blanco told the President she needed 24 hours to make a decision for Federal aid. Nice takedown at Human Events Online: First out of the gate were the Holy Men of the Cult of Global Warming, who couldn’t wait for the first dead to wash up before they declared the Hurricane irrefutable proof of Global Warming and a direct responsibility of George W. Bush. David Frum on the dispiriting eruption of vicious racial politics, yet again. I would note that Rudi Giuliani and George Pataki didn't wait for George Bush before sending rescuers into the Towers (and then the rubble of the Towers). Drudge picks up on New Orleans' message to its citizens: "You'll be on your own." It has just become incrementally harder for the LLMSM to ignore this story. And Iran picks up the storyline from the LLMSM: Katrina response proves Bush racist. posted by Ace at 11:44 AM
CommentsHmm... Randall Robinson, the Guardian, and Reuters. Anyone care to guess what all three have in common? Posted by: zetetic on September 6, 2005 12:15 PM
Some of the rumors of rape and child-murder are looking like urban legends. Yeah, but the cannabalism stories are still true, right? Posted by: on September 6, 2005 12:17 PM
It's time to raise the Sullivan warning. Have you been to his site lately? He's buying and peddling the 'blame Bush' storyline with some seriously over-the-top hysterical rhetoric. But with Sully, what else is new? Posted by: Slublog on September 6, 2005 12:25 PM
"Yeah, but the cannabalism stories are still true, right?" Hey, I was hungry, okay? Get off my back.

In regards to Human Events Online and the part about racisim- do you think the fact that black voters have been trending away from the dhimmicrats these last few years has anything to do with the type of coverage the MSM (especially CNN) has been giving Katrina's fallout? Those poor black victims of slow federal response (read: Republicans) that cover the news are being played up for reason. Posted by: Uncle Jefe on September 6, 2005 12:46 PM
Well, I'm very glad that cannibalism story finally got shot down - I was worried that racist canard of 'blacks love human flesh' was gonna rear it's ugly head again. Posted by: Dr. Reo Symes on September 6, 2005 12:57 PM
Dr. Reo: ...especially since all of the really famous cannibals in recent years in the US have been white guys. Mike Tyson doesn't count, he didn't even finish that one guy. I blame the shortage on a lack of good anthropophagic role models for young black men. Posted by: cirby on September 6, 2005 01:07 PM
LLMSM? I'm assuming that means "Left-Leaning Mainstream Media", right? I never got the acronym update. Really, you gotta send that acronym update out once a week, like revised missile codes or something. The world changes too quickly for me to keep up. Cheers, Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on September 6, 2005 01:17 PM
I am most outrageously pissed. Randall Robinson is well known, has been around for years, is taken as somewhat of an expert on race relations. How DARE he make such a virulent claim in print without checking it out first to see if and how it's sourced? It's one thing if a Kanye West type makes ridiculous statements--um, if you take a rapper seriously it's your own problem. But someone of Robinson's stature? Anyone who believes a single word that proceeds from his mouth or word processor in the future is a dunce. Posted by: Dulce on September 6, 2005 01:31 PM

FLASH: WorldNetDaily columnist Mychal Massie reads Ace. Or maybe I should say, reads "Dave in Texas" from Ace's comment section: "Dave in Texas" put it in context saying: "To blame the chaos on a lack of immediate response is to completely misunderstand how severe and thoroughgoing the damage really is. There is one passable highway into N.O. right now, and only helicopters can get in and out. National Guard troops are arriving in force, but they are hampered by the same natural barriers as everyone else: twenty feet of filthy water and sludge stretching across what used to be a major metropolitan city." (Ace of Spades HQ Sept. 1, 2005) Posted by: Sue Dohnim on September 6, 2005 01:47 PM
I said that? Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 6, 2005 01:52 PM
In light of the word "looting" being determined un-PC, if some of the rape and child-murder turns out to have actually happened, what should we call it? Maybe "sex of undetermined consentaneousness" and "postnatal termination"? Posted by: Van Helsing on September 6, 2005 01:53 PM
Van -- I believe the correct labels are (1) undocumented shopping; (2) undocumented intimacy; and (3) undocumented nurturing. Posted by: quiggs on September 6, 2005 02:07 PM
Dave, that's "Liberal Legacy MSM" Posted by: Iblis on September 6, 2005 02:44 PM
As a citizen of New Orleans I abhor the implication that the city is a haven for cannibalism. It is well known that we now have the problem relatively under control, and that it is Mississippi which now suffers the largest casualties in this area. And what do you think the Alabamans ate last weeked. Arabs? Yours etc. Etienne Boudreaux in a white wine sauce with shallots, mushrooms and garlic. Ahh a news paper wont let them use the word looters of looting why so they wont upset the liberal nit wits? Posted by: wandering whimbrel on September 6, 2005 03:51 PM
etienne, excellent Python paraphrase. Posted by: Steve in Houston on September 6, 2005 04:00 PM
If by "Paraphrase" you mean "Cut and paste and switched out a couple of key words", then thanks. I mean really, it seems such an obvious connection, I'm really disappointed in the rest of you for not hitting on it earlier. Etienne aka Posted by: Brian B on September 6, 2005 04:40 PM
I thought the LLMSM referred to the lying liberal mainstream media, but the options are numerous. Other "L" words that come to mind are lacky, lame, lost, loving (as in liberal loving), and loony, but I am sure there are plenty more that would fit. Posted by: Lorie Byrd on September 6, 2005 04:45 PM
As soon as some high profile lib reporter's car or vid gear gets "taken" it will become "looting" again. Posted by: Tony on September 6, 2005 05:07 PM
Tony: Like the saying goes, a liberal is just a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet. I can hardly wait for some stud or studdess reporter to get their mugging. And then cry about it. Posted by: Carlos on September 6, 2005 06:13 PM

I'm just disappointed that no one has mentioned The Big Bus. I mean, am I the only person who has seen that movie? Posted by: Anachronda on September 6, 2005 07:44 PM

OK, not paraphrase. How about: "repurposing". Has a nice bureaucratic feel to it. I could also say something about postmodern/pastiche art theory, but then I'd have to kill myself. Posted by: Steve in Houston on September 6, 2005 08:27 PM

I can hardly wait for some stud or studdess reporter to get their mugging. And then cry about it. If there is a god, I have one modest request - please make it Geraldo. People would pay good money to see Geraldo get stomped and robbed. We could do a PPV and use the money for relief. Posted by: Tony on September 7, 2005 04:38 PM
