Mayor Nagin To New Orleans: Drop DeadThe disaster-plan was to have no plan at all. You must rely upon yourselves, the plan went, 'cause we're not doin' nothin'. I'm not kidding; that's what they said. NEXT UP: Joshua Micah Ezekiah Taffington Boutros-Boutros Marshall explains how Karl Rove secretly backed Nagin as a "stealth neocon candidate" for mayor. posted by Ace at 11:31 PM
CommentsThat hurt my eyes to read. Posted by: SarahW on September 5, 2005 11:40 PM
...well at least NOW some of them have DVD players at least... Posted by: Tony on September 5, 2005 11:46 PM
Notice how it's still the Bush administration's fault, somehow. Well I guess when the US finally becomes a military dictatorship under Imperator Carlrovius, Brad De Long won't complain. Posted by: Andrea Harris on September 6, 2005 12:09 AM
After handling the fact that Kruggie apologist DeLong wrote that, I have to admit that the whole concept had me laughing. A DVD? These people are so piss poor or infirm they can't figure out how to manage a way to WALK out of town, and you're gonna give them a DVD? Why not buy air time on HBO, you dolts? Posted by: TC@LeatherPenguin on September 6, 2005 12:16 AM
Funny thing is, Ace, that Nagin WAS the Republican candidate for mayor in all but name. He pulled a Bloomberg, switching to the Democrats solely because you can't get elected in NO without being one. So maybe this WAS a Karl Rove Neocon Plot. And a brilliant one at that! Nagin is a double agent we've cut loose! And now that he knows he was being set up to take the fall all along, he's going apeshit! WE ARE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS HERE, PEOPLE. Posted by: Jeff B. on September 6, 2005 12:21 AM
Check out the comments on DeLong's blog ... about fifty zillion leftists foaming at the mouth that New Orleans was too poor to have a plan (the city's budget presumably consisting of $79.99 per annum) and that George Bush is responsible for everything that happens in America, including the Oakland A's getting shut out. Though one guy did attempt to slap some sense into them: "are you seriously suggesting that the President should, without legislative authority, be allowed to declare an emergency, wrest control of a city and state from their elected governor and mayor respectively, take direct command of the police forces and emergency services, and impose martial law in order to compel compliance with FEMA directives. George W? The guy who's supposed to be trying to bring fascism to the USA?" Posted by: Floyd McWilliams on September 6, 2005 12:41 AM
...are you seriously suggesting that the President should... Ummm...yes. That IS what most of the chattering class seems to be suggesting. Posted by: Tony on September 6, 2005 02:41 AM
Well. Governor Blanco did ask for assistance from FEMA and the Federal government on August 28th. Posted by: AlanB on September 6, 2005 03:07 AM
AlanB: Yes, she did. She asked explicitly for two things only. Money from the Federal government, and help clearing out brush and trees blocking the roads. She did not ask for anything else. No military, no nothing. She did not relinquish anything, either, like control of any of the Guard. Posted by: cirby on September 6, 2005 03:09 AM
Joshua Micah Ezekiah Taffington Boutros-Boutros Marshall explains... Best Ace-ism Ever. I dinna know which was funnier: the name, or the intimation that Josh Marshall was actually going to, like, you know explain something. Carry on, genius. Posted by: brandon davis on September 6, 2005 09:46 AM
What I want to know is...what happened to this money? FEMA gave Louisiana over half a million dollars last June to work with a private agency to develop a hurricane evacuation plan for the state. Some interesting questions here: Posted by: Slublog on September 6, 2005 09:54 AM
They needed lighting and makeup for the DVD. That's about $250,000 right there. Posted by: SarahW on September 6, 2005 10:15 AM
Wow. I'd like to see the kickbacks those Avon ladies are getting. Posted by: Slublog on September 6, 2005 10:24 AM

Slublog, had to be Mary Kay. I saw pink caddys abandoned on I-10. Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 6, 2005 10:34 AM
True. Maybe it was the Mary Kay Commandos that Berke Breathed warned us about. Man, I'm having trouble getting back into things at work. One would think designing a poster asking for hearing aid donations wouldn't be hard, but gack... Posted by: Slublog on September 6, 2005 10:41 AM
and here I thought I was the last guy in America who remembered "The Night of the Mary Kay Commandos". trivia. Berkely is a UTexas grad. Started the strip in the Daily Texan. Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 6, 2005 11:12 AM
Even their Uzis are pink! Posted by: Mikey on September 6, 2005 12:22 PM
I have a lot of Bloom County books, including the one where he published some strips from the Daily Texan. I was happy to see Steve Dallas didn't mature at all from his earliest incarnation. Posted by: Slublog on September 6, 2005 01:01 PM
What I want to know is... What I want to know is how a "plan" such as this can cost a half-mil and why creating this plan needs to be outsourced. I'm in the wrong business, I need to be in the plan business. Plans, Concrete shoes, cyanide, TNT Posted by: Tony on September 6, 2005 05:59 PM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help. Recent Comments
