Kanye West, Super Genius

[AIDS is] a man-made disease in the first place that was placed in Africa just like crack was placed in the black community to break up the Black Panther party.

PREACH IT, KANYE! HALLELUJAH!

You know who I blame? Blogs. And talk radio.

Ultimately, though, I think we all know who's really to blame here.

Posted by: Slublog on September 3, 2005 02:08 PM

I'd love to know what reaction Kanye got when he said that. Probably the same reaction Farrakhan got when he told a church congregation that New Orleans was destroyed by God to punish America for its wickedness.

Posted by: Allah on September 3, 2005 02:13 PM

Actually, I think there's another man to blame. And who is that man?

Yep, you guessed it: Frank Stallone.

Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on September 3, 2005 02:28 PM

Whoa! Who knew the Panthers were gay?

Posted by: S. Weasel on September 3, 2005 02:40 PM

only three words: WTF!

Posted by: joated on September 3, 2005 02:44 PM

I myself cannot wait....

Kanye/Sheehan '08!!!

Posted by: Chad on September 3, 2005 02:58 PM

Oh, man, if you haven't seen the clip, MSNBC has got it. Scroll about halfway down. It's definitely worth it. Kanye sounds like a complete maroon, rushing and rambling and gibbering. I wish they'd showed the transition a little more. The moment Kanye blurts "George Bush does not care about black people" Myers looks like he got a knee to the groin, end tape.

Posted by: S. Weasel on September 3, 2005 03:02 PM

Kanye West = Garth Algar: "Who's trying to kill you, Mr. Donut-head Man?" "I don't know, but he better not."

Posted by: Andrea Harris on September 3, 2005 03:21 PM

These are conspiracy theories that have been floating around the black community for years.

It's not surprising, when you consider some of the crazy shit that has actually happened to them, like the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment.

Posted by: lauraw on September 3, 2005 03:51 PM

You'd be surprised how many people believe this kind of garbage. And now, some more do. Yahoo!

Posted by: slickdpdx on September 3, 2005 03:59 PM

Am I the only one who sees some sort of invisible top 1 list under this? Did Ace get done looting NY pharmacies for the holiday already?

Posted by: HowardDevore on September 3, 2005 04:03 PM

I think you're being too kind, Laura.

The kinds of stuff that a huge proportion of blacks believe just boggles the mind. Aids is an experiment meant to kill blacks? Half believed it is a man-made attempt to wipe them out. More than a quarter think it was manufactured in a US laboratory for that purpose.

This is nutso ego-stroking paranoid victimhood, plain and simple. I bet if you ask the blacks in that AIDs poll about the Tuskegee experiments, they'll have no idea what you're talking about.

Posted by: Russell Wardlow on September 3, 2005 09:42 PM

Wow, Kanye is trying to outdo the Russian poet? God forbid they ever have a kid together.

Posted by: ratan on September 3, 2005 10:28 PM

Perhaps not. But distrust carries onward by necessity. Even when we are strong enough to reject our parents' bias, components of it still infect us later. I know. My dad was Archie Bunker.

And even today black folk have a lot of first hand accounts of daily-life stuff that never happens to others.
And then there are those assholes, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, appealing to the need to throw blame on America for one's personal failings.

I am not disputing there is a great need for psychiatric help in the black community. I'm just saying its not surprising.

Posted by: lauraw on September 3, 2005 10:42 PM

I have been dating a black woman now for almost a year. She lives in a small, sort of redneck community. She lives there because the schools are better for her children. She will relate to me regularly on a .....oh, say, weekly basis, some sort of racism she has encountered. It is not always blatant, but I have to agree with her that it is most always racist

She handles it well. She just deals with it on the basis that she is just the same as anyone else, the only difference being her color and features. She does recognize that institutionalized racism is basically gone and she just has to deal with individual racists.

Her one fear is that her children experiencing the same thing may not be strong enough to project the same attitude that she does.

So, yeah, there are racists out there. I'm just thankful they are in a minority.

Fox News is reporting that Rehnquist is dead.

Posted by: rls on September 3, 2005 11:30 PM

Wow. MSNBC has some really shitty reporters.

I cannot believe they hired a former MTV News 'reporter' to host a show.

I give that network another few years before NBC says 'screw it' and pulls the plug.

Has anyone seen this cover at Time Magazine?
Yup, a class act and the smartest man in pop music.

There is always going to be a problem, among those whose lives have trianed them to be highly sensitive to anything remotely interpretable as rascist, that it has to be accepted that some people are just ignorant jerks without being part of any organized effort. If a co-worker makes a remark driven more by ignorance than ill intent, it just has to be let go.

The sad part is that Kanye West can't even keep his conspiracies straight. Creating the crack problem to deal with the Black Panthers is like using a nuke on a wasp's nest. The Panther were just a criminal gang that adopted their revolutionary rhetoric as a cover story. Run of the mill polie work served to get plenty of convictions against them. If assassination was intended it could easily have been attributed to a rival gang. (Something that actually did account for a few dead Black Panthers.)

Presumably, the introduction of crack into black neighborhoods was to damaged the community as a whole. But the whole claim is easily ridiculed on the idea it took a highly organized and well financed effort by a government agency to accomplish this. As if hopeless people in depressed neighborhoods weren't going to find cheap highs on their own and that criminals wouldn't quickly move to exploit this market?

Considering what is now happening with methamphetamine in rural areas, we should assume the CIA is now plotting against red necks.

Posted by: epobirs on September 4, 2005 06:18 PM

I sorta took his remarks as something along the line of "the man, he been keepin me down"!

bad read?

Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 4, 2005 07:39 PM

He's so politically savvy:
"I hear about something that's going on with people and want to touch on it. But I can't give you a George Bush quote or a John Kerry quote. In fact, they may be the only two politicians I know."

Posted by: dorkafork on September 4, 2005 09:05 PM

I love to hear his conspiracy theory garbage. It's like Dale Gribble, only a million times nuttier and more hostile.

Stupid celebrity quotes are a passion of mine.

Posted by: ratan on September 5, 2005 10:36 AM

crack was placed in the black community to break up the Black Panther party

First time I ever heard of crack being used to break up a party. Sort of like saying the best way to ruin a KKK rally is to start issuing Jack Daniels.

Posted by: Nicholas Kronos on September 5, 2005 11:36 AM

Boycott Kanye;
Call the Gap and Pepsi and threaten to boycott their prodcuts if they follow through with their endorsement deal with Kanye. We cannot let this racist get away with the things he has been saying!

For Gap customer relations:
1-800-427-7895 then press
4, then 4, then 2 to get to a speaking person.

Pepsi board of directors:
1-866-626-0633 or
email: boardofdirectors@pepsi.com

Newsflash to that puff-faced racist: Orders where given to shoot those in New Orleans who had guns that were raping and killing others-if they happened to be black then so be it. President Bush has given more to the black american community than any other president. If people are poor, then get off your lazy ass and get a J.O.B. and stop living off the system, and stop having babies if you don't even have a J.O.B. Also, crack is everywhere including the white community-people have a choice to use it or not. And the remark he said about AIDS is too ridiculous to even comment about.

Kanye sounds like he is mentally ill or retarded. As many people as possible need to put pressure on Pepsi and the Gap. Both companies responded to my protest and were very receptive.

It's amazing how such a comment has got all of you riled up, yet you didn't flinch when Barbara Bush made her crass remarks. GO FIGURE!

THE TRUTH HURTS DOESN'T IT?

Posted by: Not lost like all of you on September 27, 2005 02:16 PM

And JOHN for the record, there are more whites on welfare and destitute...check your facts before you bring your ignorance here.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
