More Ideological Looting At The HuffPo

Includes a direct hit on Arianna herself, noting that she's slaming the rich from the vantage point of her "...seven-figure home."

But more incredibly, someone is accusing blacks of cannibalism.

But that's okay, because even though there's no evidence of this, and he uses it as a jumping off point for a vicious anti-American screed (this cinches it, he says, though one gets the feeling he wasn't a fan of the US previously), he himself is black, and therefore can make up stories about cannibalism all he likes.

After all, his lie is in service of a "higher truth."

After four days without food and apparently hundreds of bodies lying or floating in the streets, I wouldn't be surprised if there have been incidents of cannibalism, whether the cannibalizers be black, white, yellow, red, or paisley. That of course doesn't change the fact that reporting such incidents and using them as a springboard for Insane Anti-American Rant #4,112,901 is the very height of irresponsibility.

Which, given the nature of the Huffington Post / KOS-o-Verse, also is unsurprising.

Posted by: Il Padrino on September 2, 2005 04:36 PM

Four days is not all that long to go without food. Water, yes. Four days without a meal hurts, but not near starving enough to chaw on a hunk of raw and decaying man-meat.

Posted by: S. Weasel on September 2, 2005 04:41 PM

There are no instances of cannibalism in New Orleans.

Period.

You know how long people can survive without food? Weeks. You know how strong the instinct against cannibalism is? The strongest.

Robinson is an idiot peddling yellow journalism to support his hatreds.

After three days without food, and yet still having crackers and beans and stuff in the cabinets, plus lootable food at shops, I find it difficult to believe that people would resort to eating dead bodies.

For crying out loud, I've gone two days without food. The thought of snacking on a corpse did not cross my mind.

Posted by: ace on September 2, 2005 04:43 PM

Sheesh! You'd think you never saw the Kids in the Hall sketch about the guy on trial for eating the entire passenger complement of a 747 because his flight had been delayed half an hour.

Posted by: Il Padrino on September 2, 2005 04:43 PM

Gutfeld's post was a complete over the top ass kicking, only limited by its fundamental hypocrisy.

Both sides ought to be holding fire now. 'He started it' should be abandoned after grade school.

Posted by: Sweetie on September 2, 2005 04:44 PM

It's complete and utter bullshit.

The only people who might possibly have committed cannibalism after a couple of days of *limited* food are people who were already lunatics and just looking for the excuse to chow down some manflesh.

Posted by: ace on September 2, 2005 04:44 PM

That's totally f'ing stupid.

There's four days worth of food in my frigging kitchen. There's four days worth of food in the grocery store down the street. There's four days worth of food in the half dozen gas stations and restaurants within walking distance. There's four days worth of food in every one of my neighbor's homes.

Remember, 80-90% of New Orleans was gone before the hurricane. They sure as hell didn't take the food with them.

What a lunatic.

Posted by: Dogstar on September 2, 2005 04:44 PM

Wasn't there a Monty Python sketch where they began discussing cannibalism after being adrift at sea for only a day or two?

Posted by: ace on September 2, 2005 04:45 PM

Randall Robinson is a lunatic. He says that his country [America] is a monsterous fraud.

Leave then. Seriously, get the f*ck out.

America is a fraud? Why, because a natural disaster hit? I guess we should be able to stop a hurricane.

Posted by: the daily missive on September 2, 2005 04:46 PM

Dunno about the Monty Python sketch, but it calls to mind the "Far Side" about the lifeboat survivors drawing straws to see who'll be eaten ... and one of the folks who didn't draw the short straw was a dog.

Anyway, I completely and utterly rebuke my musing that cannibalism is feasible after 4 days. Perhaps I only thought that because I am Italian.

Posted by: Il Padrino on September 2, 2005 04:47 PM

S. Weasel
That is the exact same thing I thought when I read that. Come on now who in this country would be feasting on human flesh after a couple days with out food.

Maybe those folkd Huffpo got confused with the shark that was traveling in flooded NO. I bet it was jaws eating those dead bodies.

Posted by: Lenore on September 2, 2005 04:47 PM

Gutfeld's post was a complete over the top ass kicking, only limited by its fundamental hypocrisy.

I disagree. It would have been hypocritical to begin blaming liberals for the tragedy.

It is not hypocritical to mock them for how they seek to blame every f'n' event on Republicans.

It's ludicrous, and it should be mocked as such.

The cheap lie this cocksucker just peddled about cannibalism will be a "fact" accepted by a lot of liberals and other cretins for the next 100 years.

Posted by: ace on September 2, 2005 04:47 PM

We've heard from Robinson before; he is a big backer of that thug Aristide in Haiti. Here's an example of his good feelings for our country:
http://archives.econ.utah.edu/archives/marxism/2004w07/msg00066.htm

I'm not surprised he crawled out from under his rock.

Posted by: Rob C. on September 2, 2005 04:51 PM

I think the 'too soon for cannibalism' meme fails to take into account the strong voodoo/zombie historical undercurrent in New Orleans.

Just saying keep an open mind.

Posted by: Jack Wilkie on September 2, 2005 04:51 PM

"Come on now who in this country would be feasting on human flesh after a couple days with out food."

Well, let's be honest-- if human flesh tasted like roto Peruvian chicken, I'd grab some, extra hot sauce, please.

"...one gets the feeling he wasn't a fan of the US previously."

No, he wasn't. Randall Robinson is the author of The Debt: What America Owes to Blacks. It's an impassioned argument for reparations payments for slavery. Robinson followed this up with Quitting America, where he recounts his decision to move from America to St Kitts, where his wife was born.

The book is full of little gems of overripe prose: "I have tried to love America, but America would not love the ancient, full African whole of me." Or how about this: "America. Land of my birth and erstwhile distress. Hypocrite immemorial. My heart left long ago. At long last, I have followed it."

Quitting America, incidentally, has been out for well over a year. So when Robinson bloviates over at HuffPo, writing stuff like, "I, the formerly un-jaundiced human rights advocate, have finally come to see my country for what it really is. A monstrous fraud," his outrage is as phony as Sully's on-again-off-again Catholicism. "Monstrous fraud" is actually a pretty good description of the writer.

Posted by: on September 2, 2005 04:58 PM

Anyhow, shouldn't a person of color be extra sensitive to a charge of cannibalism? Isn't it a little dicey to be accusing the survivors of behaving like savages?

Posted by: S. Weasel on September 2, 2005 05:01 PM

Are we talking zombies here? Did Bush cause global warming which caused the hurricane which caused zombies to appear on earth, and seek the putrid flesh of dead democrats?

Posted by: on September 2, 2005 05:02 PM

Y'know, I think I might have contracted a mutant strain of Bush Derangement Syndrome myself.

This was startling for me to discover. But over the course of the past few days, through conversations I'm having with deployed colleagues as well as friends and family back in Louisiana, I'm starting to develop an active dislike for the nurses and doctors and most of the rest of the people who stayed to take care of others. Active.

If there were some patients who couldn't be moved, fine. Get them to the most secure facility. But as for the rest of you self-sacrificing heroes. Fuck you. Forget the idiots who won't leave and GET YOUR MISERABLE HEROIC ASS TO SAFETY. Come back after the fucking hurricane and do your goddamn job and get your plaudits, but DON'T PUT OTHER PEOPLE IN DANGER SO YOU CAN BE A FUCKING MARTYR. You know - all the OTHER rescue workers who have to come back and save YOUR sorry ass.

Fuck you, you stupid bastards. Heroes get people killed.

Posted by: Megan on September 2, 2005 05:03 PM

Even though the disaster has killed an untold number of people, Huffposters have embraced the tragedy as a wonderful opportunity to pile on the president - even a member of the Kennedy family joined in. "As long as he is blogging," says one expert, "we know he's not raiding the clinic."

You know, after reading the cannibalism post, I finally realized why this kind of juvenile, unthinking jackassery makes me so angry.

It's so incredibly stupid, so wrapped up in its own moronic self-absorbtion, so lacking in any kind of maturity, or common sense, or perspective that I'm not adept enough at using the English language to even begin to capture how much nauseated contempt it causes in me.

Really, I just got no game for this kinda stuff. I have to finally come to terms and admit it: they win. Their idiocy by far outpaces my ability to accurately describe it.

And it pisses me off.

Posted by: Russell Wardlow on September 2, 2005 05:10 PM

Ace,

I'm going to have to disagree. What I find objectionable about these political attacks on Bush is that they are counter productive: divisive in a time where unity ought to be foremost on everyone's mind (unity except for with that Robinson fellow). They'll be time to sort out the blame (I'm going with that beeach Mother Nature) later. Getfeld's takedown was thoroughly justified.......but now what? The left just turns up the volume.

Then again, I'm not really a Republican and I see that sometimes you have to answer back/jump into the mud or the public will assume Bush really is the great satan that breached the levees.....and ate an old black lady on Air Force One on the flight home. But my allegiance isn't to the party.

Okay, fine. I'll take issue with something. $10.5 billion and that's just the first "down payment," Mr President, sir? It'd take completely suicidal political courage but maybe this ought to be your first veto.

Here I'd been sitting here thinking, well, this is all horrible and shit, but at least Congress isn't in session. At least Louisiana only has to deal with a hurricane and a flood and looters.

Silly me. Should've known it couldn't last. Should've known those worthless parasites would jump into high-gear sign-a-check mode sooner rather than later.

I have no objection at all to sending in the Army to get in some target practice on anyone who starts acting like an animal though.

Actually, could we start doing that in Washington DC now, please? Since most of us can, apparently, get together on the idea of shooting useless criminal filth who steal from decent, hardworking Americans? Because there are 538 of them 5 minutes across the river from me.

The dire situation in New Orleans for the first two days after Katrina's landfall is entirely the responsibility of the Mayor and the Governor.

Period.

The only Federal culpability would be poor weather forecasting.

In this case, everybody would be better off had the Weather Service just said a day and a half out "Look, Get.Out.Now." and not get into precision issues like 'It now looks like Katrina might hit slightly east of New Orleans with the less severe western wall of the hurricane which would spare the city ....'

and that bit about the possibility of the eyewall reconfiguring itself due to a pressure drop of a couple of millibars which might drop Katrina to a Category IV gave people false hope or at least a reason to think they could ride this out.

What astounds me is that the people on the roofs didn't do things like fill their bathtubs or pots, bottles, and pans with fresh water just before Katrina hit.

I'm not blaming the victims here, but wondering what the hell the city was doing letting people know what to do to prepare for a disaster.

Though, considering that the city didn't think to buy a couple of
These , taking them to the Superdome and Convention center and start filling the portable tanks with water.

A couple thousand gallons of drinking water on site can make the first day or two after a tragedy less dire. And stuff like this is purely municipal, not Federal.

Gad, there was too much needless suffering.

Posted by: BumperStickerist on September 2, 2005 05:52 PM

I'm going to be insensitive here, but looking at many of the looters and others reenacting "Lord of the Flies", it looks like most of them could stand to miss a few meals, and the rest of them could live off the crumbs caught in the fat ones'folds of skin.

Posted by: TJ on September 2, 2005 06:13 PM

Does anyone think for one minute that Americans would be willing to stand in solidarity by foregoing their Labor Day vacation activities, BBQ's, etc.?

Think again.

Yet some will no doubt be sitting around in lawn chairs, smacking their gobs about how......”The President should’ve left Crawford sooner"...."The President should've reacted quicker"....."The President should do something about these gas prices"....."The President should've stood in front of that levee and held back the waters with laser beams”

People need to calm the fuck down and snap back into reality.

Just because one American city is in temporary chaos doesn't mean the rest of us should throw ourselves into panic mode.

For God sakes...turn of your TV's...go out and enjoy your weekends.

The best thing you can do right now is generate some revenue.

Subject: Maybe New Orleans Mayor Nagin would like to explain this picture before he and the rest of his democrat fellow travelers continue to blast the fed's.
photo: 155 buses with water just inches on the wheels/ day one - two

They had plenty of means to get people out. Their claims of “we had no transportation” are, to be nice, suspect.

*** Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005: An aerial view of hundreds of flooded school buses in a lot in New Orleans, LA. The flood is a result of Hurricane Katrina that passed through the area last Monday.(AP Photo/Phil Coale) ***

As regards the National Guard troops and security, the Governor of the state of Louisiana always had the power to deploy the LA guard in the fashion that other state troops are being deployed today. It is her failure to do so that has prompted the President to get the help from other states.

The Mayor of New Orleans, who ordered all those people into the Superdome (yep, that was his big plan), had the power to bus them out of the city at the same time. The City of New Orleans moves many more children each day on school buses than were in the dome. Those buses were available and slated to be used for school the next day. He could easily have evacuated those people...but did not. He never got out of Civil Defence office nor used any bullhorns to tell the people what to do! He has hid, no leadership. Rudy Gulliani he is not.

When ordering a mandatory evacuation you use what resources you have to move the people...he did not. If it was important and dangerous enough to order all citizens to leave, it was dangerous enough to help those people to leave. Yet, they did not. After they failed to do so...the busses ended up under water and useless.

Their evacuation plan was non-existent.

Their evacuation plan was get out on your own.

They know where every school in the state is. Most of them have gyms.

They could have bussed out 100-200 people to each of those gyms 100 miles inland and left the city empty.

The Mayor failed. The Governor does not appear to have put the National Guard on alert prior to the storm.

Both of them sat on their butts and waited for the feds to do it all.

In the end, it was FEMA, after the local and state government's failure, that had to get the job done...but now under much, much worse and dangerous circumstances.

No, it is not Bush's fault or the fed's fault. We must place blame squarely where it lies at the feet of the local and state executives who had neither the desire nor the will to make those calls, irrespective of their political stripe.

Just finished up Mr. China; memoir of a British consultant who helped form an investment fund doing alot of joint ventures with old companies in China. Bought up beer co's, motor companies, pretty much majority stakes anywhere they could get their money in then tried to ride it all to profit.

Absolutely wild what they faced - corrupt commie officals, worker revolts, theiving employees and banks in on it.

Really brings home the importance of our judicial system, how central are the simple notions that thieves are punished and contracts get enforced are to everything we have - how China is lurching into hypercapitalism without those things in place and the wild stories that happened to the author as a result. Anyway, great read.

Oh, and can I say one thing about all that nonsense Anderson Cooper decided to spew at my Auntie Mary.

The Senator was just trying to be nice, and kudos to her for that. What exactly did Anderson f'n Cooper expect HER to do at that exact goddamn second? Where does he get off raising his voice at her? Senators can't order the National Guard around. Senators can't tell utterly incompetent Mayors how to do their jobs. Senators can't look over the shoulder of the fucking Governor and make sure she's doing hers. Senators lobby for their state in Congress. There's SUPPOSED to be a whole fucking executive branch back in Louisiana getting into that whole fucking protect the people shit.

It is absolutely amazing the kind of kid-gloves treatment the media is giving Blanco and Nagin. And then you crow about some shit-filled talkinghead mewling at a Senator FOR NOT DOING WHAT WAS NEVER EVEN HER JOB?

Senator Landrieu is a class act. Cooper, like so many people these days, was just trying to spitball pieces of the dead at her.

It's just so much easier to cry crocodile tears about corpses in the streets and weepily demand someone "DO SOMETHING" when every fucking person is already trying to do everything that can be done. Heads up Cooper - those are HER constituents, not yours. No one elected your worthless bitch ass to anything, so shut the fuck up, put down your mike, get off the screen and go start handing sandwiches around if you're so fucking emotionally distraught. And let the grownups talk in peace.

DeeDee,

Another point is that NO is a "port city" - which also means it is a trucking center since we've not developed MatTrans yet.

You can pack a lot of people into the back of a semi. I would have much rather had a harsh ride in the back of a semi rather than go through what they did.

Any reasonable disaster plan should have had a laundry list of sites where transportation could be comandeered locally. School buses, dump trucks, truck depots, etc.

This idiot mayor was waiting on chartered buses!

The kid who hotwired a school bus got his load to the Astrodome faster than the charters. That speaks volumes since he was operating in a much worse "information vacume" than the mayor was and organized his whole operation working in isolation.

That kid should get some sort of presidential heriosm medal for showing the kind of imagination and gumption that was so sadly lacking in the city/state officials.

I'd put that kid in charge of the evac - he doesn't have his head up his ass.

Posted by: digitalbrownshirt on September 3, 2005 03:28 AM

Not only did the mayor not help people get out, he also did nothing to help the helpless. Last night on OReilly it was said that 80 residents of a nursing home-unevacuated-were found dead. Most likely they drowned. It makes you sick to hear the NO resdidents scream "I hate Bush." How can they not comprehend where to direct their anger? Maybe seeing the difference between Texas and Ms.and Louisianna will open their eyes. One can only hope.

Heads up Cooper - those are HER constituents, not yours. No one elected your worthless bitch ass to anything, so shut the fuck up, put down your mike, get off the screen and go start handing sandwiches around if you're so fucking emotionally distraught. And let the grownups talk in peace.

I love you, Megan.

In a strictly heterosexual way, though. ;)

I'm having a hard time comprehending it, but this is going to degenerate into "it's Bush's fault, he doesnt' like black people" and that will turn into the conventional wisdom. The media will disregard the massive effort the federal government is undertaking in responding to an apocalyptic disaster; they will disregard the fact that white, black, and brown rescue personel are busting their asses trying to save people while dodging bullets from their own fucking countrymen; they will disregard the fact that state and local government seemed to have no plan whatsoever to respond to this, and the fed can't be everywhere at once. The media seems to not care that America just took it on the chin in a big way and that maybe we need some responsible journalism right now and not partisan finger pointing and race baiting. There will be time for recriminations later; but for mindless human cancer cells like Anderson Cooper and this Kanye West fuck, it's all about blaming the President.

"I love you, Megan. In a strictly heterosexual way"

...

And how exactly would that work, Sue? ;) Strap-on?

...and seek the putrid flesh of dead democrats?

Their living flesh is no bargain, either.

Cordially...

"Loooceey, I'm home from the club"!

Dave...

Oh, I'd say something witty and devastating but I'm in no condition. Fuck it, just imagine you've been insulted.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
