What's Playing Right Now At The HQThe Kinks' Catch Me Now I'm Falling, also known as Captain America Calling, at least to me. Just thought I'd share. Over and over again. Both the long and short versions. It kept going through my head after 9/11. The lyrics were pretty damn spot-on: I remember, when you were down
On My Wavelength Update-- Tres writes: The thing that makes me feel as if my Cheerios have been pee'd upon is that I have yet to hear of any relief efforts being offered from our "friends" throughout the world. Lord knows we've put it out there for any of them time and time again. That's sort of what I'm thinking. Again, the lyrics: I never thought that you would let me down Just So You Don't Think I'm Calling America A Weaking Update: Some ass-kicking Captain America lyrics: When Captain America throws his mighty shield posted by Ace at 03:22 PM
CommentsFuck 'em. We're not "falling" and we don't need their help. Nor should we want it. Posted by: Allah on August 31, 2005 03:31 PM
The towers fell. And we don't "need" their help. But they weren't as forthcoming with help as they ought to have been. Posted by: ace on August 31, 2005 03:32 PM
I think it's a prescient about the world's reaction to America in need. Posted by: ace on August 31, 2005 03:33 PM
The only country I've seen come forward and offer any sort of assistance has been Israel. As the article says, it's a general offer since they don't know what we need exactly, but they're willing to pitch in where and when we need them. Posted by: Jimmie on August 31, 2005 03:47 PM
The Captain America song... wasn't that from a commercial or something? For at least the last 20 years, that line has occasionally run through my head, slicing like a hammer: 'Captain America THROWS his MIGH-TY SHEEEIIILLD!' What is that FROM?! Why must you torment me? I had just come to terms with the idea that it was a figment of my imagination. Posted by: ChrisF on August 31, 2005 03:54 PM
There was a very poorly animated cartoon, in which unmoving, static drawings of characters and objects were simply moved across the screen. The song is the theme song to that bad Captain America cartoon. Posted by: ace on August 31, 2005 03:56 PM
I was just listening to "Catch Me Now I'm Falling" the other day. Ace, you nailed it when you compared it the current situation. Gosh, it only seems like a few months back that whiny little pissant bureaucrats around the world were criticizing the U.S. for not doing enough for the tsunami victims. To all of them: SHOW ME THE MONEY! Posted by: Steve L. on August 31, 2005 03:57 PM
On another note, I have to say that if FoxNews is the news source of the eeeevil cold hearted Republicans, count me in. Shep Smith is actually getting angry, yelling into the microphone about how there are hundreds of people that just need to know where to go for emergency aid, all of them sitting out on the highway. He's really agitated. Not Geraldo agitated, but normal-person agitated. And yes, they've been throwing them water, food, and ice from overhead, as well as water. They're doing what they can. Meanwhile, the CNN schills, with their 'I'm-a-reporter-to-the-core-and-nothing-affects-my-Vulcan-composure' attitude are coming across as losers. The only thing they have is passion for lib spin. Posted by: ChrisF on August 31, 2005 03:58 PM
And we don't "need" their help. But they weren't as forthcoming with help as they ought to have been. Why "ought" they have been more forthcoming? Most of the world is anti-American; why lay that aside simply because one of our cities is underwater? My attitude towards them is the same as Giuliani's when he handed that Saudi cocksucker's check back to him. You know what the reductio ad absurdum of your argument is? This. Posted by: Allah on August 31, 2005 04:00 PM
Well, those socialists to our north: And those Mafia-Commies in Russia: Hell, even that evil Commie Chavez offers help: Meanwhile, the tsunami victims remember that the help we gave: Posted by: vonKreedon on August 31, 2005 04:10 PM
Ace - Have I ever mentioned what good taste in musice you have? Posted by: vonKreedon on August 31, 2005 04:12 PM
Come on Ace. We wouldn't need their help even if they didn't kick us in the shins every chance they get. Posted by: lauraw on August 31, 2005 04:13 PM
The Brits, Aussies, Japanese, Irish and a few others will offers some help, because that's what they do. The rest of the world, Europe especially, can collectively kiss my ass. We know they're a sorry lot of ingrateful moochers, so we shouldn't be upset when they don't lift a finger. Screw 'em. Posted by: UGAdawg on August 31, 2005 04:16 PM
In the words of the immortal Slim Pickens, "Piss on you, world, I work for Mel Brooks." Posted by: Bill Peschel on August 31, 2005 04:23 PM
It's not the help itself, it's the offer. It seems stupid, but if you are the one time after time buying drinks for your buddies, it is nice to have one of them offer to pick up the tab even if it is not a problem for you. financially Posted by: Defense Guy on August 31, 2005 04:23 PM
The official said that although Israel does not have any particular expertise in battling floods, it does have a great deal of expertise dealing with collapsed buildings. This kind of made me smile sadly - I mean, yeah flooding is not a big issue in modern day Israel, but still, there is some historical experience with floods and other watery phenomena - think the Flood and the Red Sea. Too true about the collapsing buildings part. Posted by: holdfast on August 31, 2005 04:24 PM
Glad to see that our brethren to the north finally listened to Gordon Sinclair: http://www.americanrhetoric.com/mp3clips/politicalspeeches/gordonsinclair.mp3 Posted by: Captain Ned on August 31, 2005 07:30 PM
Thanks, Ace, but I'm still processing the "I'll show you a DUCK like you've never seen before" lyric. Later, Posted by: bbeck on September 1, 2005 01:15 AM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
