Katrina Kills

I'd hoped, and thought, that Katrina would be much milder than expected, but it turns out that's not the case at all.

Just go to Michelle's and keep scrolling. Hundreds dead, looting, damage at least $26 billion, 95% of of Gulf oil production shut down for the storm (and likely a lot of it will be offline even after it passes).

I can't even imagine being trapped in a flooded city with a bunch of looters?

This is just horrible.

Malkin is reporting that a looter may have shot a police officer in the head.

Damn those vultures. As though there hasn't been enough suffering.

I've seen no reliable info as yet on how Katrina has afected George Clooney. Will update as soon as I know.

Please remain calm.

Helicopter video of Mississippi coastline here.

I just can't believe it. I just can't believe what we're seeing.
A few minutes in, you can see that one of the offshore casinos has been washed inland and deposited on top of a Holiday Inn.

Time to start shooting looters on site.
That's what Martial law means.

Posted by: Shawn on August 30, 2005 08:07 PM

Jeff Goldblatt from Fox News at New Orleans just reported that a Walmart in the city opened it's doors and let people take what they needed, no payment necessary. That is what I like to hear.

Regarding the offshore platforms. the production is down only because the workers were evacuated. The platforms are built to withstand hurricanes. They should be fine. As soon as they get the workers out there, production can begin again. And that can happen fairly soon.

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on August 30, 2005 08:14 PM

With all the due respect I owe you, RWS, I wouldn't be so sure of that.

Some platforms were damaged heavily, and a few even broke free from their moorings.

But even if all of them survived just fine, they're connected to the mainland either via pipelines (that were likely severed, at sea or on shore) or via shipping (that now has no nearby ports to go to).

But even if all those things worked, the people in the Gulf area who work in the refineries and POL & gas shipping industries are all evacuated as well, and when they return, who knows what the condition fo that infrastructure will be like.

Nope, by all accounts, this was one very bad hit at a very bad time. It's going to be a long time recovering.

Jesus.

The video.

After Andrew, I laid in a lot of hardware and a few thousands rounds of ammo that should be sufficient to defend the neighborhood from looters if we ever get TheBigOne™

Posted by: Tony on August 30, 2005 09:16 PM

You could be right Dave. But the pipelines are buried underground, so that is good. I don't think that most rigs get thier oil refined right there, but I could be wrong.

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on August 30, 2005 09:37 PM

Stealing food and water in that situation is one thing; you have to live.

But the stupidity and cruelty of these looters is beyond reckoning now.
It started with a natural disaster and continuing with a human one.

Fucking shoot them.

I was explaining that to a guy at work today. He seemed to think it was no big deal because everything is trashed anyway. I told him to imagine being seriously injured in a car accident. You think your luck can't get any worse, then the first guy that shows up steals your wallet and your watch. Then the next guy that pulls up rolls you over and pulls down your pants.

That's what looters are doing to people that have already suffered a major loss. What little they have left is getting carried off by the 2 legged rats that stayed behind.

I think that time will tell on this issue. Events like this seem to strip people down to their true nature - some act heroically to help others and some... do otherwise. Take food for your baby from an otherwise trashed Winn0-Dixie, I won't pass judgement. Break out windows to steal jewelry? You need a good beat down.

As far as the coverage goes, I am thinking of the 1989 SF earthquake. The media made it look like the city was in flames. I was there, it was not. The next day was right out of the Omega Man, but all in all most people rose to the occasion, and the shitballs were still shitballs.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
