I don't think Sharon is under any illusions that pulling out of Gaza will appease the Palestinians. I think he's just tired of being their police force. I agree with him. Israel should pull out of regions that are primarily Palestinian to some reasonable boundary (decided by Israel), build a giant wall, and try to ignore the noise next door as their neighbors fight their inevitable civil war. It's a sick and sad situation, but I'm not sure what better options there are.
