The Real Deal..in tearjerkers. Just a story about a picnic, really. posted by LauraW. at 08:09 PM
CommentsI live no where near a place like that. I'm tired of living among people who hate their country so much. Posted by: on August 26, 2005 11:57 PM
"We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse" Move to Oklahoma. That ain't just some line from an old country song. It's a way of life. Next Friday is opening night for high school football. We'll have 15,000 people at the game (more than live in this town) and every one of them will be standing up and facing the flag when we sing the National Anthem. It's cool to watch our small town parades too. When the color guard comes down the main street everybody, from the elderly to the smallest children sitting on the curb will stand up and put their hands over their hearts in salute. It's nothing like what I grew up around in California. “Eich bin ein Okie"

It's a great song - but even if they truly didn't then (which I doubt), they probably *do* smoke marijuana in Muskogee *now* ... "Touch football's still the roughest thing on campus/ Posted by: Knemon on August 27, 2005 02:54 AM
Well somebody must be smoking it, the cops here just busted a couple of Mexican guys with 600 lbs of pot hidden in a boat on a trailer. I don't remember it being "touch" football in the song. We start playing tackle football at around 6 years of age in OK. Touch is for girls. Posted by: digitalbrownshirt on August 27, 2005 03:36 AM
Let me check the lyrics ... because now that you mention it, it does seem odd. ... I'm back. You are correct. http://www.leoslyrics.com/listlyrics.php?hid=0UftPgVAcmY%3D I guess I added the word "touch" to make the rhythm fit - he must really stretch out the word "football," because otherwise there's a syllable missing. Not that I'm questioning Mr. Haggard's lyrical skills. * 600 pounds! Every time I hear of such a bust I die a little inside ... I'm no longer a moonbat but I've still got my vices ... Posted by: Knemon on August 27, 2005 03:41 AM
Probably the best lines of the song: "We don't make a party out of lovin'; They still like to make a party out of lovin' here in Berkeley ... as "zombie" fans know ... Posted by: Knemon on August 27, 2005 03:42 AM
To the unsigned poster at the top of this string. You might be surprised. I'll bet if somebody asked the 200 people at the picnic about whether they should all stand up and sing the National Anthem, you would have gotten some negative responces because people are often reluctant to go against what they think is the conventional wisdom. I think people want to feel part of our great country and this gave them all the opportunity and maybe even the waiters and disk jockey who may not have ever seen a spontaneous outpouring of love for our country might benefit by it. If this was 20 years ago, half the people would have refused to get up in protest to our saying our country is the greatest in the history of the planet.

Click the link below to see what Republicans were saying when Clinton had our Troops in Kosovo. Are they Anti-American and unpatrriotic too? http://www.crooksandliars.com/stories/2005/08/17/heresWhatRepublicansSaidAboutClintonAndKosovo.html Here is a few examples: "You can support the troops but not the president" "You think Vietnam was bad? Vietnam is nothing next to Kosovo." "Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?" "Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is." "This is President Clinton's war, and when he falls flat on his face, that's his problem." Posted by: Republican in Indiana who supports our Troops but not Bush on August 28, 2005 05:19 PM
Hey Rep in Indiana, Grow up and keep your rantings out of our tribute. Your points may be valid but they don't belong here. Go start a blog, I hear it's cheap... Posted by: on August 28, 2005 07:15 PM
"Support the Troops" is leftyspeak for "when we spat on them and called them babykillers during Viet Nam, it turned out to be a real PR problem. Who knew?" Posted by: S. Weasel on August 28, 2005 07:20 PM
To the RINO in Indiana: Clinton lied to us about the size and number of mass graves in Bosnia to get us to go there. There was no threat to the USA in Bosnia, unlike Iraq. In other words, those comments about Bosnia were appropriate, those about Iraq are not. Plain and simple. BTW, we still have soldiers in Bosnia. Maybe it's time for us to leave there. I live in Annapolis, home of the Naval Academy. Last July fourth every house on the street leading into my neighborhood had a flag outside. Seems like Ward Churchill et al are simply creating more business for the flag-making companies in the good old US of A. Posted by: Helene on August 28, 2005 09:39 PM
Damn straight, Helene. Posted by: lauraw on August 29, 2005 12:43 AM
To Robert 108. You stated unlike Bosnia, Iraq was a threat to us? There was no WMD found. We had Sadaam contained in the nothern and southern no fly zones. We were attacked by AlQueda in Afganistan. Iraq had nothing whatsoever to do with 9-11 and both Bush and the 9-11 commission have said so. Army specialist J. Cruz (he is the very same soldier who pulled Sadaam out of his rathole) said on MSNBC last week that we are causing more harm in Iraq by being there and that Bush should pull out the troops. Iraq is a mess now and we need to finish the job, but it wasn't a threat to us. Now with regards to that guy from Indiana and his quotes, you are saying it's okay to disparage our troops as long as a President whom you disagree with is in office? I completely disagree with that logic. I agree with Tom Delay that it is okay to publicly disagree with the President and still support the troops. I'm a right of center independent who is saddened how badly this country has been torn apart. It saddens me to see fellow Americans calling eachother unpatriotic simply becuase they disagree with the President. I do not condem you for disliking Bill Clinton (hey, I'm no fan of his either). Please do not condem me or that person from Indiana for disagreeing with Bush. - Mary Posted by: Mary on August 29, 2005 11:54 AM
Mary: There were and are plenty of connections between 9/11 and Iraq, contrary to the talking points of the Far Left. Zarqawi is just one of them. Of course, the 9/11 commission is now suspect, and their credibility is questionable, at best. Posted by: robert108 on August 29, 2005 06:40 PM

Oh - my bad. I found Jeans Cruz, the guy who pulled Saddam out of his hole, and the transcript with Keith Olbermann (BTW, if you watch him with any regularity, you are nowhere near "right of center"). His com*laint seems to be solely based on the sacrifices of families - he says nothing about the mission, nor anything about us causing more harm than good in Iraq by being there. What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
