I'm bored, so I will utter the magic words that makes our Court Jester appear:

"Cedarford...Cedarford...Cedarford."

Now maybe this place will start hopping.

Here's a cool one: Hardware problems continuing.

We're still getting drive errors, though now they're coming from the other drive. We'll be replacing it this weekend; we should only be down for an hour or so unless we completely screw it up.

It's not nearly as bad as before, but you may notice that sometimes a comment won't post or a page doesn't load properly the first time. Just try again and it should come right.

All the backups have been updated, so at least I won't have to go through that again.

Jim Treacher: Man dies after being fucked by horse.

Not a fake story. Really happened.

The valuable thing I learned from this story: Bestiality isn't against the law in Washington (nor in sixteen other states); however, "[p]olice are still making sure that sex was not forced on the smaller, weaker animals, thus constituting animal cruelty (which is a crime)."

Free soap box? I’ll take that bait. Here’s a thought piece for anyone in the mood for deep thinking:

Many people are saying that American leftist self-loathing, combined with our cherished First Amendment, creates a weakness that may prove our downfall when skillfully exploited by Jihadistan and its MSM allies. Actually, there is a considerable irony here (there’s probably a more accurate word than “irony,” but I can’t think of what it is.)

The true strength of Jihadistanlies in its unwavering belief in and adherence to the words of their prophet. However, it is this same faith that for 1400 years has kept them in the Dark Ages politically and technologically.

By contrast, the true strength of America has always been our willingness to challenge the received wisdom of the past and to seek empirically-superior “truths.” Our strength is, in a word, doubt. It is this deeply-held spirit of empirical scepticism that has made us far superior to Jihadistan in matters political and technological.

However, doubt cannot be compartmentalized; so this same doubt must inevitably be applied to our foreign policy decisions, even where (as here) the correct answers would seem rather obvious. It is therefore unavoidable that Jihadistan’s “strength” finds an easy target in our “weakness” (i.e., our doubt).

I am confident that our doubt-based-system will prevail over their faith-based-system. But this is yet another reminder that the greater of two goods (or the lesser of two evils) is not ipso facto perfect.

I get to follow that up? Screw that.

I thought most of Bush's supporters were "faith-based."

Pixy,

Seagate Elite series SCSI drives.

They weigh 10lb, sound like a jet taking off, and have a MTBF (literally) of about 50 years. I swear by them. They never fail.

Posted by: Tony on August 25, 2005 02:30 PM

"I thought most of Bush's supporters were "faith-based.""

That's what gets you lefties into so much trouble. Thinking. You're not equipped to do it properly. So, what you should have said is "I have a feeling most of Bush's supporters were "faith-based". Hope this helps.

Some amazing stuff from Michael Yon. Go ye and read of it, for it is good.

Seriously, this guy is the Ernie Pyle of the Iraq War. This last post (along with pictures!) is some of the scariest you-are-there combat reporting I've ever read.

Posted by: Monty on August 25, 2005 04:08 PM

Brewfan, actually that was not very helpful. And, it's quite a sweeping pronouncement you make that lefties are not equipped to think properly. That's a pretty startling revelation. I assume you also include one of our most famous lefties, Albert Einstien. No, actually your premise is all wrong anyway. There is no difference between thoughts and feelings. They both originate in the brain. I hope I cleared that up for you.

Posted by: Bill on August 25, 2005 05:21 PM

Bill - I stand by what I said. Being "faith-based" may have a number of benefits, but technological progress is NOT one of them.

Posted by: quiggs on August 25, 2005 06:24 PM

Tony, the Elite series drives were great, but I think they stopped making them ten years ago.

Having said that, I am shopping around for new servers - plural. Having mirrored disks is great, but mirrored servers is even better.

Hillary Duff has the #1 album in the country. What the fuck? REALLY? I MEAN, WHAT THE FUCK? WHAT THE FUCKIN FUCK?

Dear Modern Music industry:

I hate you so much. So very much. You have worked hard to remove music from my life and done your job completely. I live a near musicless existence thanks to you. Didn't have to be like this. Used to love music. Used to love the radio. No more.

We are enemies. If I ever meet you, I will kill you. Seriously. And if I'm not going to make a big vengeful production out of it either, just walk up behind you, pull the trigger, drop the gun and slip into a mall. You are dead. Dead.

Posted by: Ray Midge on August 26, 2005 01:13 AM

Hilary Duff is to music, what Howard Duff is...to music.

And for people who don't like music, there's always rap! Or John Tesh. Some time ago, I watched in horrid fascination something called "John Tesh: Live at Red Rock!" I shit you not. It was what a friend of mine might describe as "high energy/low interest." There was a lot going on--violinists, kettle drums, big swatches of colorful fabrics blowing like the banners proclaiming the destruction of Western Music, as though Cristal had done the set decor--but none of it had any impact. It was not possible to give a shit. It wasn't even amusing unintentionally. It was like the Children's shows Kim Il-Jong's North Korea stages for visiting journalists; or like that Star Trek episode where the semi-omnipotent guy conjurs up a buffet for Kirk's hostage party, and everything looks like food, but is wholly without flavor. It was freaky. In a boring sort of way.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
Whoops! I posted about Dan Goldman losing the NY congressional primary. He might do that, but it won't be tonight -- the primary isn't held until June 23.
One race to keep an eye on: the Levi's heir nepo baby and egregious "Designated Liar" Dan Goldman -- one of the Democrats from a safe district Democrats send out to spread their most indefensible lies -- may actually lose his lower Manhattan/Brooklyn set due to, get this, antisemitism in the Democrat primary electorate.
Antisemitism? In the anti-Nazi Democrat Party? Sounds crazy, I know, but apparently the anti-Nazi Party wants to eliminate Jews.

Democrat Senator Rueben Gallego, who served his wife with divorce papers when she was nine months pregnant so that he could marry his side-piece, counsels us that we should not judge Graham Platner for his infidelity because these things are personal matters, Racists:

Sahil Kapur
@sahilkapur

Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., on Platner: "We know that Graham has lived not your typical political experience. He's been very clear and open with his wife, and they worked through whatever they worked through. At the end of the day, this man has had 60 more town halls than Susan Collins has. He's winning the polls, he's willing to accept that he has grown as a person, and I think we should accept that."

Gallego says the drip-drip of revelations won't harm Platner's campaign.

"I think you guys are all in a bubble here right now. The drip, drip that's actually happening is Americans are really, really hurt the fact that gas is still high, food is still high, they can't buy a home, you can't afford rent. They're not going to care about text messages and everything else like that that happened years ago, especially when it was worked out between spouses."

I like that he says that it's okay that Graham Platner sexted 12 different women within months of marrying the woman to sponge off her because he wasn't then "living a political life" -- the clear meaning being, "We all cheat, we just don't cheat when we're running for office, and he didn't know he was running for office when he was sending dicpics to half the women he ran into."
Except he was running: His own wife turned the sexts over to his campaign.
And obviously Reuben Gallego didn't let his "political life" get in the way of his extramarital dating life:

The ULA rocket just launched
Thanks to Joyenz
The rocket's enormous engines are fueled by "the volcanic heterosexual lust between James Talarico and his Neighbor With a Uterus 'girlfriend'"
I hope Amazon's rocket works better than the Amazon Prime app does as far as allowing people to watch the black and white version of "Spider-Noir"
From the CA Post:

Spencer Pratt is now Karen Bass' biggest headache.

A bombshell California Post poll conducted with McLaughlin & Associates shows the reality TV star-turned-mayoral candidate has surged to a statistical tie with the incumbent mayor.

And voters blame homelessness, affordability and the direction of Los Angeles as the reason for turning on Bass.

Pratt now leads the field with 30.1% support, compared with 29.5% for Bass, setting up a razor-thin race heading into next week's primary.

Socialist councilwoman Nithya Raman sits in third place at 23.4%.

Thanks to beckster
Just like "Spartacus" Corey Booker, now that James Talarico is running for a higher office, he unveils his previously-unknown "girlfriend" and hooboy, it just so happens she used to work for him, and, get this, likes to "dance the night away" at gay bars
Gee I wonder where they might have met
Oh and she's a vegan
When Corey Booker needed a "girlfriend," he conjured up known LGBTQ activist Rosario Dawson. How convenient that when these guys need a girlfriend to show off to the normies that just happen to find an activist with a strong history of and interest in Supporting Gay Men
But seriously, this James Talarico romance with a Neighbor with a Uterus is a love story for the ages. The passion of their lovemaking is hotter than a blue star with a core of Primordial Sex Atoms created in the Big Bang
And just like that, #PunchANazi became Punch a Ballot for a Nazi
