Can you be a refugee from a country you were never in?

This just in from the Anti-Semitic dhimmis at the AP.

You might need a calendar for this one.

Ramzi Qabalawi, 55, a refugee in Lebanon since the 1948 founding of Israel, called the Gaza withdrawal "a great victory" for the Palestinians.

Whoa, buddy. . . pal-- math?!?

You're gonna have to spell this one out for me.

Cheers,

Suppose this guy turns 56 tomorrow. That means he was born in 1949. Also consider his mother could have been carrying him in her womb for nine months. The first of those being December 1948. She could have possibly been walking on land now in Israel. Technically, he could be a refugee. Maybe more like a refwombgee, er somethin'.

Don't confuse a guy with facts when he's on a roll...

Maybe this dude is the palestinian version of Howard Dean?

Well, genius, then how can anybody be a "victim of the Holocaust" if they are less than 60 years old?

Perhaps being born in a Displaced Persons Refugee Camp in 1949 Austria to destitute Slav, Jewish, or Roma parents does indeed qualify you as a refugee and as a victim.

Dude, exactly when was the last time you heard ANYONE under the age of 65 claim to be a victim of the Holocaust???

Posted by: Dogstar on August 17, 2005 07:27 PM

Check out any of thousands of "Holocaust Reparations" lawsuits filed on the basis of the Present Victims that are descendents of the "direct victims".

Must work, Dogstar, as the shysters are Hoovering in tens of billions a year for the descendents of dead clients.

But the Zionists have avoided having one shekel being pried from their grasp to repay any victim, direct or indirect, of the Great 1948 Land Grab and Cleansing.

Zionist Motto: "Not one shekel of OUR money for goyim unless there is a better deal within for us!!

An odd tangent of America's Goyim motto "of millions for defense, billions for others in need, not one penny for tribute".

OMG! I can smell it here too!

Posted by: BrewFan on August 17, 2005 08:59 PM

As I understand it, the UN has declared the descendents of Pali refugees to also be refugees. It is the only group with this designator.

Posted by: rabidfox on August 18, 2005 01:05 AM

Rabidfox is correct. The UNRWA's decision to declare descendents of Palestinian Arab refugees as refugees themselves, give them unique status in the history of refugees.

Please note that between 1948 and 1967 (Israel's War of Independence at its founding and the Six-Day War), around 800,000 Jews were forced out of the surrounding Arab lands that they had lived in for centuries. In many cases, all their assets were stolen as well. They arrived in Israel penniless and landless. But you don't see them living in refugee camps. They've managed to move on and build new lives for themselves.

Good news, for what its worth.

Posted by: lauraw on August 18, 2005 11:00 AM

lauraw

The good news is worth a lot. I saw Seymour Hirsch last night on Jon Stewart (during the commericals) who said that Abdullah was a clueless and no friend of ours. It must be nice to have a job where you can be so very wrong so much of the time and it never matters.

And Cedarford,

But the Zionists have avoided having one shekel being pried from their grasp to repay any victim, direct or indirect, of the Great 1948 Land Grab and Cleansing.

Over the years, the Palestinians have been offered (by different countries) repatriation, lands in many differernt countries and lots of money, and they haven't taken it. I don't know that anyone would make such offers today given their history, but in the past different countries have done so. But they prefer instead to blow thmselves up to get their 72 vaginas. What a savage religion Islam truly is!

I think Cedarford doesn't really exist as a human being. I think Cedarford is really a caricature of Archie Bunker*

*My posthumous apologies to the wonderful Caroll O'Connor for referring to his acting role and Cedarford in the same sentence ... but I think he'd understand ...

Posted by: psflanagan on August 18, 2005 05:26 PM

Even if Cedarford had a point (besides the one on his head), there are a few points that he should be aware of;

1) Israel did not start the 1948 war - it was started by the neighboring Arab countries. Maybe all those poor displaced Palis should look to the Arab states for compensation.

2) In the period between 1948 and and 1956, aprox 700,000 Sephardic Jews were kicked out of / ran like hell from various Arab countries (Yemen and Iraq being, I believe, the principals). This is about the same number as Palis displaced from pre-1967 Israel. How about we allow the Israelis to pass their claims for confiscated property on to the Palis and they can collect?

3) Those Arabs who chose to stay is Israel are full citizens, with the right to vote (a right which most Arabs living in Arab countries do not enjoy). Are they generally less prosperous than the average Israeli - yup, but there must be a reason that many of the Bedouin from Gaza are trying to get INTO Israel right now.

4) The companies againt which reparations were sought are typically banks and insurance companies which decided "hey, our clients are dead and their bankbooks / insurance policies destroyed. I guess we just get to keep all their stuff, and screw their heirs."

anna - Please note that between 1948 and 1967 (Israel's War of Independence at its founding and the Six-Day War), around 800,000 Jews were forced out of the surrounding Arab lands that they had lived in for centuries.

A nice Zionist lie. Some were forced out, most made voluntary Aliya (journey to the Zionist Homeland). Many were reluctant to leave. In Egypt and Iraq, Zionist agents were actually caught bombing Jews in those communities to whip up fear and get them to emigrate. Zionist agencies called the caught agents "overzealous".

As for the ones that were cleansed, would you make the argument that Jews cleansed by Yemenis and Moroccans negates any obligation for Zionists to give reparations to Palestinians. Where the Germans and Austrians wrong to give reparations to Jews when German ethnics were cleansed the end of WWII by Soviets, Poles, Czechs, and Hungarians?

Holdfast - Israel did not start the 1948 war - it was started by the neighboring Arab countries. Maybe all those poor displaced Palis should look to the Arab states for compensation.

Another fine Zionist lie. Civil War broke out throughout Palestine when the Partition Plan was rejected. The Jewish militias and terror squads were ready, and cleansed the Muslim and Christian Palestinians out. When the neighboring Arab countries came in - it was a month later and was only fighting to retake lands the Zionists weren't given in Partition, but were seized for the cleansed non-Jews.

In the end, 453 Palestinian villages were destroyed and paved over. Zionists villages suffering a similar fate? Zero.

Cedarford - you're completely full of sh*t. You try to use isolated inceidents to completely reverse the overall picture.

I bet you're just mad that a bunch of skinny, refugee yids were able to beat, among others, the British officered and trained Arab Legion

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
