NY Announces Plans For Random Surgeries, Random Spending

As long as we're doing random searches, why not? Apparently submoronic randomness is a good thing, so let's extend this party to everything.

Funny stuff. Funny because it's true.

NY Announces Plans For Random Spending

...and this is a change from previous municipal budgets how, exactly?

Posted by: Megan on July 27, 2005 01:52 PM

Not sure why some are running round talking bout the abusrdity of the program. That 'this won't stop anything' and so on.

First of all, regardless what they say publicly, I hope the police are gonna have people stationed a ways back to keep an eye on profile fittin backpack wearers who drop out/reverses course at sight of checkpoint, so they can be followed/hasselled, etc.

But even if they don't, the randomness screws with the bombers such that they can't scope out maximally effective timed targets and plan with that in mind. Sure, day of, bombers can go to the next station hoping it's not a 'searched' one, but that screws the simulataneous thing, allowing word to spread, clearing out other statations after one bomber, who went to a location w/ no checkpoint, goes off earlier.

If nothing else, it introduces more uncertainty and 'moving parts' into would be subway bombers plans creating more opportunites for fuck ups to occur, making them much more likely to just pick a non subway target w/ less headaches. (which is good even if equal number dead because subway bombing is gonna affect new york more (economically, etc) than other targets.)

Anyway, all those carrying on bout its 'ineffectiveness,' c'mon. When your going to your boyfriends apartment with your weed/X , just take a cab. Won't bankrupt you.

I don't want random people to feel left out on this randomness - so everyone should feel free to make random deposits to my bank account.

Ray, if you choose not to get searched you can walk out of the station, no questions asked. What terrorist isn't going to take that option when asked to open their bomb filled bag? Also, police used to be able to stop suspicious people and demand to see inside their bags. With this new plan, they can't because they've promised people can walk away.

Karol,

That's sora true, but you're not taking into account a lot of things.

A random, voluntary stop and search can quickly turn into an involuntary stop and frisk.

Cops are allowed to detain and search you if they have reasonable cause to suspect you're committing a crime. Or, even if they don't think you're committing a crime, but MAY be carrying a weapon, and they're acting lawfully in questioning you, they're entitled to perform a "Terry frisk" (named after the case that said this was okay, terry v. ohio) to search for weapons. On the theory that, crime or no crime, they should be allowed to do their duty without the danger of suddenly being confronted with an armed man blazing bullets.

Searches are voluntary... until they're not. And a cop can decide when he thinks you're behaving suspiciously enough to constitute reasonable cause for suspicion, or have reasonable grounds to think you have a weapon. Even if a court later deems him wrong, and tosses the evidence out for being the product of an illegal search-- hey, if he found a bomb, that's a bomb taken out of commission.

And while there are a lot of liberal judges, most judges, liberal or not, play politics, and they know what cases to fight for and which to let go, even if the grounds for a search are fishy. In high-profile cases, like a case of a bomb being discovered in a backpack, even a very liberal judge is going to have a hard time deeming a search illegal, even if he suspects the cop is lying through his teeth on the stand.

Basically, you CAN walk away. But refusing to be searched, along with other indica of guilt, such as sweating or jumpiness or what not, can altogether create reasonable cause for a search.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
Whoops! I posted about Dan Goldman losing the NY congressional primary. He might do that, but it won't be tonight -- the primary isn't held until June 23.
One race to keep an eye on: the Levi's heir nepo baby and egregious "Designated Liar" Dan Goldman -- one of the Democrats from a safe district Democrats send out to spread their most indefensible lies -- may actually lose his lower Manhattan/Brooklyn set due to, get this, antisemitism in the Democrat primary electorate.
Antisemitism? In the anti-Nazi Democrat Party? Sounds crazy, I know, but apparently the anti-Nazi Party wants to eliminate Jews.

Democrat Senator Rueben Gallego, who served his wife with divorce papers when she was nine months pregnant so that he could marry his side-piece, counsels us that we should not judge Graham Platner for his infidelity because these things are personal matters, Racists:

Sahil Kapur
@sahilkapur

Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., on Platner: "We know that Graham has lived not your typical political experience. He's been very clear and open with his wife, and they worked through whatever they worked through. At the end of the day, this man has had 60 more town halls than Susan Collins has. He's winning the polls, he's willing to accept that he has grown as a person, and I think we should accept that."

Gallego says the drip-drip of revelations won't harm Platner's campaign.

"I think you guys are all in a bubble here right now. The drip, drip that's actually happening is Americans are really, really hurt the fact that gas is still high, food is still high, they can't buy a home, you can't afford rent. They're not going to care about text messages and everything else like that that happened years ago, especially when it was worked out between spouses."

I like that he says that it's okay that Graham Platner sexted 12 different women within months of marrying the woman to sponge off her because he wasn't then "living a political life" -- the clear meaning being, "We all cheat, we just don't cheat when we're running for office, and he didn't know he was running for office when he was sending dicpics to half the women he ran into."
Except he was running: His own wife turned the sexts over to his campaign.
And obviously Reuben Gallego didn't let his "political life" get in the way of his extramarital dating life:
