Model Airplaning Just Got A Little Less Dorky

Okay, not only is this a huge model of an F-14, but the thing looks really cool when it flies.

Thanks to someone I'll have to hat tip later, because I forget who put me on to this.

I'd like to see a squadron of these strafe Brian Williams' soft, pliant ass with roman candle cannons.

I wonder what they run.
Hey it looks like you could put a camera in that cockpit.
So you could see the look of abject terror as you bombed and strafed him.

Would have been ten times cooler if they set the music to Aces High instead. (but that's what the volume control on your computer is, I suppose, heh)

That thing really is remarkable, though. I wonder how fast it goes.

Ace, I'm going to turn over a new leaf.

Instead of merely saying "old" whenever I see an old link, I'll try to be like BASF-- you know, I don't make the link, I just make it better.

Don't you know? Fighter pilots make movies, but bomber pilots make history.

Screw the Tomcat strafe-- carpet bomb Williams' ass with a remote control B-52.

And if this guy ever finishes his C-17, we can use it to transport his remains to his soulmates in Fallujah.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

P.S. Alas, the B-52 had herself what we like to call a "Class A Mishap." Better luck next time, I guess.

There was a show on model rocketry recently and they launched a scale replica X-33 (I think). It was almost the size of a VW bug. It went up, and they glided it back down by radio control. Friggin' awesome.

Wow! Too cool :-) Anyone else notice that they named the plane "USS Enterprise"? LOL That's just geektacular!

Posted by: Enas Yorl on July 1, 2005 09:06 PM

I'll take one.

I'd love to go buy one of these right now, but I'm going to have to sit here with the computer in my lap for a little while until things settle down a little... If you know what I mean.

I think I know what you mean. Does it have anything to do with that talk about " Brian Williams' soft, pliant ass"

The mini turbines those planes run on are quite amazing. You can run them on kerosene or propane and the early generations would produce way more thrust than the weight of the aircraft. Manufacturers started de-tuning them after a while over safety concerns.

Ducted fans are a poor mans alternative to working turbines, but even those are damned expensive.

Why didn't they just change the throttle settings?

They didn't name the plane the USS Enterprise. They made a scale model of an F-14 which was labeled with the the name of its carrier...the USS Enterprise, an actual aircraft carrier.

So, yes, geektacular, but not in the way I think you meant.

Posted by: Mok on July 2, 2005 07:28 PM

Oh. Well, yes of course that does make sense, Mok. But...there's several aircraft carriers that they could have chosen from, right? I betcha whoever built that thing is a sci-fi/military geek and it was specifically chosen as a double-meaning-thingy. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You need to check out 'Remote Control Hobbies' on the DIY channel.

They once toured the factory where these things are made. They often have F-4 Phantoms on there with clips of them flying a plenty.

Eh? Model planes are geeky? At least I only build model replicas of 1940's milk delivery trucks. I'm the epitome of coolness.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
