They're Trying To Make Blogging Illegal For Anyone Holding A JobUnbelievable. The campaign finance reformers want to make it illegal to blog more than one hour a week, four hours a month from a corporation's place of business. More than that and you could be subject to a legal complaint -- the complaint being the coporation, through you, is making illegal in-kind donations to a political party, because, I guess, the coproration is faciliating your expression of your opinions by providing you with a job and a computer. And maybe even legal pads and post-its, if you write longhand before posting. Your employer will be forced to make blogging as carefully patrolled as trolling for child porn in order to keep themselves out of dutch with the FEC. And, of course, they'll have to fire you if they catch you, if only to prove they are not covertly supporting your danger-to-the-Republic opinionating. The campaign finance "reformers" will simply not stop until as few people as possible -- only those with straight media jobs -- are granted those dangerous First Amendment rights. posted by Ace at 11:54 AM
CommentsGood luck figuring out which one of my 12 co-writers is who. 'Cuz all of sudden you're going to see multiple people posting on my site, including Kevin, the homeless bum who I allow access to my site through the public library. And since I run my own server, I can't have my disk drives all full of those pesky IP's. Another magical thing is I can bypass my company's Websense server with magical ease, and so can everyone else with a wee bit of knowhow. So I do all my blogging from home. And if THAT becomes a problem, my wife will do the posting. She's a stay at home mother, so there's no corporation to answer to. Stupid chowderheads. I can see it now: Mr. Spades, To write your "blog," did you use an employer's pen at any point, and if so, was 3.8% or more of the ink said pen used for such a purpose? If so, both you and your employer will be deemed in violation ... Posted by: Phinn on June 30, 2005 12:18 PM
Who are these people who think up these shit rules? Are they clueless to the world of blogging? Or, do they know exactly what they are doing and trying to stifle everyone? If so, who are they in bed with? Who is lobbying them? Posted by: on June 30, 2005 12:22 PM
Maybe we can settle on a compromise and just agree to not blog naked? Posted by: on June 30, 2005 12:31 PM
Am I getting old and cranky (well, even older and more cranky) or does the never-ending-Liberal-assault-upon-freedom seem to have accelerated to Warp Speed? They seem to have so totally and completely snapped the chains of reality that they've like become rabid dogs who don't know what they are doing anymore and must be stopped. No doubt they believe that blogging is "bad for this country" and that it is up to them to stop it. They subscribe to the fantastic notion that if only they could stop these dangerous-extremist-right-wing-ideas from being shoved down the throats of the ignorant, unwashed, masses by a completely Right Wing Media wholly owned and operated by Far Right Fascists, their ideas would prevail because, as Bill Clinton said in Primary Colors: "our ideas are better than their ideas." Their arrogance knows no bounds it must be the voices of reason and sanity that stop these rabid dogs. We must stop them and remove them from all public life, or else. How on earth do they think they can make this stick? A blog is personal opinion - are they going to demand that citizens can't talk about candidates to each other in the last two weeks before an election? Posted by: Dianna on June 30, 2005 12:41 PM
The FEC has no right to make this ruling. There are limitations on speech, 12 in fact, but individual citizens are guaranteed the right to talk about politics until they want to stop. I like law and order, feel it is necessary to be lawful in society, but this is one rule that NO ONE should be obliged to follow. If this is the path that the government wants to continue down, then I fear that Jefferson will finally be proven correct, and that the outcome may eventually be the death of this country. Diana, yes, they will. Think it sounds silly? Imagine how silly it sounded two years ago that they were going to try to regulate blogs. We're hootin' about it now. Posted by: Sharp as a Marble on June 30, 2005 12:48 PM
Well keep in mind that SCOTUS upheld McCain-Feingold to prevent the "appearance" of corruption. But don't worry, Dan Rather is still out there legally ferreting out the truth. This has to be made up. But then again... *eyeroll* They will stop at nothing, eh? God forbid people have a dissenting opinion. Posted by: Miss O'Hara on June 30, 2005 04:12 PM
illegal to blog more than one hour a week, four hours a month I'd have to quit my job so I can blog. What am I talking about? I don't have a job. Would I have to quit using those old IBM 360 computers at the public library? Posted by: shit from shinola on June 30, 2005 05:41 PM
I think it's definitely because bloggers are perceived as a new, very competitive and undesirable branch of media. Some pretty powerful people out there definitely want to squish blogging. The left wing bloggers may get most of the press, but there's no doubt [for me] that the most effective bloggers are right of center. I would once have said that there's no way that kind of a law would hold up in court... but these days I'm not so sure. Posted by: Mark_D on June 30, 2005 05:54 PM
What about those of us with *gay* media jobs? I'm just asking. Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on June 30, 2005 05:56 PM
Were it not for the decline of federalism, I don't think we would be faced with this problem. However, a bloated national government, flush with $2,300,000,000,000 to spend every year and filled with the pride that goes along with such wealth and power, has turned to micromanaging weblogging, because it's easier to do so than to sit still. It need merely allocate 0.001% of its annual budget to fund a regulatory office at a rate of $23,000,000 per year. We've let the national government get so big that it can abuse our freedoms just by twitching. In that light, it's easy to see why national elections are being fought with increasing bitterness. Can we reasonably assume we're on a course of perpetual peace and freedom when such resources are both available and at stake? I think we've laid the foundation for a more astonishing tyranny than any the world has yet seen. Posted by: Hunter-Seeker on June 30, 2005 06:00 PM
Sir, I sentence you to life in prison without the possibility of paroll, on the charge of blogging! Oh dear gasp. Maximum security for the bloggers.... hah Posted by: zeedle on August 24, 2005 06:00 PM
Wow.. Amazing. I understand if they're doing it so you won't 'blog while at work' (because you should be working, you know...), but if it's for any other reason, then it's a load of bull.. -sighs- Government.. Lovely. Posted by: Eva on August 24, 2005 10:39 PM

ANOTHER LEFT WING ASSASSIN ATTEMPTS TO KILL TRUMP
If I understand this, the left-wing Democrat assassin attempted to get into the White House Correspondents Association dinner, and was stopped at the magnetometers, which detected his gun. I guess he pulled out the gun and was shot by Secret Service agents. Erika Kirk was present.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this. He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again. You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
People say that the bearded man in the video of Fartwell molesting a hooker looks like Democrat Arizona Senator Rueben Gallego, said to be Swalwell's "best friend" and known to take vacations with him.
@KFILE 21m So the campaign is collapsing due to the truth of the sexual harassment allegations. That hissing sound you hear is the air going out of the Swalwell campaign. UPDATE: No it wasn't, it was just Swalwell one-cheek-sneaking out a fart on camera Eric Swalwell more like Eric Farewell amirite thanks to weft-cut loop.
