It's as if the 9/11 attack succeeded in its goal of toppling America - the America of the left, that is. In reponse to the attack they have advocated acquiescence to bin Laden's demands, increased sensitivity to the position of Islamic extremists, negotiation with terrorists as if they represent legitimate political entities, re-scultping our foreign policy to reduce our influence in the Middle East, and now, erecting a monument of apology on the site of the attack.

Why is this such a difficult proposition for some on the left to comprehend?

Because they hate the United States more than anything else. And what better place to display that hatred than the spot at which 2800 Americans were murdered by some of the few people who hate America as much as they do.

Osama could line the leftists up and behead them one by one and as they stood in line, they'd (i) blame the United States not Osama, (ii) try to escape by claiming they hated the United States at least as much as he does and (iii) under no circumstances say Osama was wrong to behead Americans. Their only regret would be that the 'wrong' Americans were being killed.

Ace, only the Sith deal in absolutes. Double-standards are for liberals and the Jedi.

It is important to understand your enemy and his motivations - it helps you strategize better. And it's easy enough now to find translations of what the Islamists are saying and writing, so a conscientious person can get a good idea of what they want and "why they hate us". If something about that was included in a WTC museum, that might not be out of place. What outrages me is that Leftist apologists are not trying to find out what the Islamists really think and want, they just extrapolate from their own criticisms of the US. They are not multi-culturally sensitive, they are wounded cultural narcissists.

James Byrd was he victim of "evil" America - he was a poor black man whose ancestors were dragged into slavery by eeevil Americans - probably before we were an independent nation. And the 9/11 terrorists were'nt really mass murders, they were the noble defenders of an ancent homeland and after all, they killed 3000 Americans. And the liberals wonder why their party of weakness (that the Democratic Party for those who've been living on another planet) can't win elections.

We have already been told what the Islamists need and want.
They are calling us to Islam. As hard as that is to believe, it is true.
They are striking at the heart (they think) of a Satanic entity, a corrupter of their core values, and a refuge of infidels and scoundrels.
Need I also mention, a protector of Jews.

Not having a free press, and living in regimes which ceaselessly disparage the West in order to draw attention away from their shitty governance, and hammered from birth with Islam's 'believe or die' fundamentalism, is it any wonder these people actually believe this tripe.

It is hard for us in this part of the world to understand that type of motivation, but there it is. After 9/11 there was some big essay supposedly by Osama that spells it all out.
And #1 on the list is, "We call you to Islam."

The left would scream bloody murder if Tom Delay perverted the WTC in a similar manner by proposing a special wing to honor the souls of the millions of unborn babies aborted in America.

The difference is that I would be there right along with them in protesting such an outrage.

Heck, I thought it was obvious what the liberals' real reason is. Byrd's killers were white, the 9-11 terrorists weren't. White people have gotten away with killing and enslaving non-whites for thousands of years, so it's justice that non-whites get a pass on killing whites, and whites not retaliate agaiinst non-whites. Unless the non-whites are Republicans. Then they're sell-outs, race traitors and Uncle Toms, and they get the same treatment whites get. Or if the whites are Democrats, then they get the same privileges non-whites get. Simple, no?
