I'm George W. Bush, and I Approved of This Message

Edited: I wanted to post this pic but I didn't have much comment, or a decent headline. So, having nothing, I originally wrote it as a kneejerk slam on the MSM for not covering this story.

Trouble is, as has been pretty demonstrated here and elsewhere, the MSM actually is covering this story. So my kneejerk why-aren't-they-covering-this whine was misplaced, as well as contradictory, as I just spent the last two weeks posting stories of liberals eating crow.

Anyway. Still a good picture. And I think I finally thought of a decent headline.

Bashar Bashing Update: Roger L. Simon notes that Assad's rally crapped out, and that his half-measure two-stage withdrawal proposal ain't cutting it.

Reckless Speculation I Just Can't Resist Linking Update: The Lebanese army has taken positions around the Syrian intelligence offices in Beirut.

Captain's Quarters wants to know if they're there to protect the Syrian spooks, or if they're there to help guide them to a peaceful, but forcible, exit.

Isn't it interesting that their sign is in English, rather than Arabic?

To me that suggests a level of political savvy on the part of the protestors. They know they stand their best chance if they get international pressure working for them, and they know that English is the universal language best calculated to garner that pressure. It's interesting because the sign doesn't seemed so much aimed at the Arabic-speaking Syrians, as at the rest of the world: "Look at us, and see how much we want freedom."

Want the MSM to run that picture? Just spread a rumor that KKKarl Rove was behind it...But Ace, please don't hold your breath waiting for the MSM to say anything positive about Bush Administration policy in the Mideast. Anoxia is such a bad way to go...

Why the hell do the Lebanese want Syria to out the National Organization of Women? Hasn't it already been well established that the bulk of their membership is made up of unattractive lesbians?

THere is a very simple reason the sign is in English. They're playing to the audience that made their protest possible without fear of massive bloody retribution.

It's their way of saying, "Guys, it's working. Don't go wobbly on us."

I think Assad is going to get out of the way. He's got no intention of winding up in a Spider Hole like Saddam, and having a corpsman examine his mouth like he was a horse. That'd be undignified for an opthamalogist after all. What would his patients think?
