Dutch Government Passes Its Own Patriot Act

Heaven forfend! Tim Robbins' "chill wind" has swept across the Atlantic!

The act, if promulgated into law, would allow previously-banned law enforcement techniques, such as phone taps, infiltration of suspected terror cells, and entrapment-ish techniques like bogus agreements to sell weapons.

It still needs to be approved by the parliament.

I guess Bill Moyers' and Michael Moore's theory -- that George W. Bush has "terrorized" the American people with a fictitious threat of terrorism -- can now be adapted to include parts of northern Europe.

Damn-- when that George Bush sets out to scare people, he does a hell of a job of it. He's even got teeth chattering and knees knocking in Amsterdam!

George W. Bush

Very, very scary. Boo!

Funny, the Dutch are such civil libertarians, usually. I wonder what Bush drugged them with?

(I don't need a sarcasm tag, do I?)

You know who else terrorized Amsterdam at one time?

Hitler.

Wait until O-Chub and Ted Rall hear about this!

The Dutch may find it's too little, too late but I wish them well.

If current trends continue, Holland will soon be fighting for its very existence, and it will probably lose. But at least this shows an encouraging willingness on the part of the Dutch to throw off the shackles of political correctness so they can defend themselves.

The only thing that bunch of slacking stoners could defend is their stash. The place is going to turn into AQ's northern HQ - bank on it.

They didn't even allow wiretaps or cell infiltration before now?

Jeebus. They might as well put a welcome mat out for criminals.

Its hard to be an enlightened and progressive nation when you're, you know, being invaded and murdered and stuff.
If bullshit multiculturalism trumps all their other values, then the culture deserves to vanish.

But I really think that the days of Rome sacking Greece are over. The only thing preventing an utter rout of the barbarians is political will, and that appears to be coming around.

Agreed, lauraw. I've got a nasty feeling that large parts of Europe in 2015 are going to resemble Bosnia in 1995. Notso hotso, but it could be worse--at least they're not going to resemble Kabul in 2001.

Or so I hope.

For a guided tour of European measures that eclipsed the Patriot Act and effectively destroyed a terrorist group, look up what the Germans enacted to get rid of baader meinhof in the late 60's.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
