I think the fact that they have to live with one another is pretty severe punishment. I mean sure, they may like each other, but you know when they screw (if at all) each one is thinking, "man, that's one UGLY motherfucker"

They do not even live at the house they use for these "statements." Their neighbors have to suffer the people that come to counterprotest people that are not even there.

I think the appropriate thing to do is for their neighboirs to post a big sign next to the house saying "The owners of that place live at --Address-- or call them at --phone number -- and let them know what you think."

The firm I work for was actually in merger talks a while back with the firm that the female half of this pair of jackasses works for.

I can actually look out my office window and see the building her firm used to occupy until recently, kittycorner from where I am. Never saw any effigies hanging from there, at least.

But even though these two's antics are outrageous, they're still protected under the First Amendment, just like a Klan rally or the Skokie Nazis. Also, under California law her employer is prohibited from terminating her for it. So calling them up and complaining does no good -- she's probably termination-proof as long as she's not incompetent, because of the lawsuit she'd inevitably bring.

I did read that this couple no longer owns their Boxster, ever since someone presented them with the EPA figures for it and juxtaposed that with their hatred of SUVs. (Which shouldn't have been necessary, considering they'd been paying the gasoline bills on it for some time, and she was a math major.) But if that is true, what do you want to bet they sold it instead of doing what a real principled greenypants would do and junking, er, recycling it?

Kind of a pity about the woman member of the America-hating couple, Virginia Pearcy. A tragedy even, given the magnitude of her intelligence. She graduated from UC Davis with honors in Math at age 17. She graduated from Berkeley's Boate Law school at age 20 with distinction and was a member of the Law Review.

A tragedy, that is, if this kid genius was pushed into a radical hotbed well before she was mature enough to think for herself, defend her beliefs - and became indoctrinated. That is the danger of the Left's controlling entire academic worlds and using the likes of Ward Churchill to program impressionable youth.

She met this guy when she was 13 and he was 31, and was soon living with him? Could this pair be any creepier? Supposedly they remained chaste until she turned 18 (her picture above suggest there probably wasn't much temptation) but this seems all too much like one of those Heinlein scenarios that nerds find enchanting but are chilling in real life.

Sure, she may be ever so bright in academics but this does not confer maturity. A teenage genuis is still a teenager with a brain yet to complete forming its decision making apparatus. All too many prodigies go sour as their childhoods are wrecked by their own talent causing them to be treated as adults long before they are remotely capable of functioning as such.

Anyhow, I hope nothing happens to them. Their asshattery is so blatent, they exhibit such obvious obliviousness, that they're harmless, even if they are offensive. I can live with that.

Besides, they can be proud of themselves that their very existence confirms that the U.S. values freedom of speech and dissent. They're nothing less than good old American Grade A Patriots, and I hope someone points that out to them, if only to see their heads explode.

Seriously, though, harassing these fuckheads is counterproductive. We're not the "digital brownshirts" Al Gore says we are -- or at least, I'm sure as hell not, and I don't want to be associated with that kind of behavior. Leave that shit for the Kos and Atrios acolytes -- and even if they do stuff like that to people like the Powerline guys and Michelle Malkin, that's not an excuse for us to do it to the Pearcys, shitheads that they are (but don't you guys find it inspiring that he found something to do after Ratt broke up?). It will only encourage them and validate their slurs in their own minds. Not only that, but it gives them that which they crave beyond anything else: attention.

These people are trolls, nothing more. And not in the sense that the word is commonly misused these days -- i.e., a mythical creature living under a bridge. No: their obnoxious behavior is there precisely as a stinky piece of bait to provoke an emotional response. They live for your anger and your vitriolic responses. It gives them pleasure in having shocked you, and the most extreme reactions they get (i.e., personal harassment) only give them justification for their continued provocations.

Anger is useless against people like this. Ridicule would be more effective, but simple exposure might also serve to alienate them - though it would unfortunately give them the attention they seek.

But I live and work among these people's peers, and this kind of shit -- soldiers in effigy? -- is even outside the mainstream of the San Francisco Democrat establishment. Someone should confront that establishment with this kind of behavior from one of their own, though, and then watch them distance themselves from it or give an uncomfortable weaseling response like "I don't agree with them but I support their right to express themselves."

Then put that up on FOX news and let Red-State America see it, and sit back and enjoy another several years of the Democrats as a minority party.

Just because her company can't fire her for exercising her free speech doesn't mean we can't make her a severe liability to retain. I'd say that is a reasonable goal for now. Sooner or later when the company can't even give her anything to do anymore because of her profile - she is likely to leave of her own accord.

I agree with Cedarford. Too often the effect of too much intelligence too soon is to produce social misfits. She was probably so starved for affection that she fell for the first person who spoke to her. One of my pet peeves-totally non PC-is the ratio of money spent educating "slow" children to the money spent on gifted children. It is so much easier to get a degree in teaching "special education" than it is to get a degree in teaching gifted children that it is disgusting. This woman is the unfortunate outcome. Too many gifted children are made to feel like outcasts and weird-os.
