It's Good To See That San Fransisco Liberals Still Have Their Priorities Straight

A lot of you are probably libertarians, and you might object to the idea of a national ID on any number of grounds. I'd disagree with you, but I imagine you could make some plausible arguments.

But in the Bay area around SF, they have what must be the most important argument of all against a National ID... that an ID containing a "sex" descriptor would make life more difficult for transgendered citizens, or people who wish to change their sex at a later date.

Thanks to Secure Liberty, who also examines the tension between libertarians and conservatives within the Republican Party. A new iteration of the old debate which began, serendipidously enough, at CPAC.

As a libertarian, I would say that the potential difficulties of transsexuals merely highlights one reason why a national I.D. card is a bad idea. I actually knew a couple of transsexuals when I lived in CA, and they did have a very difficult time with their credit scores mysteriously tanking, and with job offers being revoked, when their SSNs turned up under male names. Thus, a very "liberal" dilemma ends up highlighting what was once a very "conservative" concern about the danger of SSNs being eventually used as a national identification number that tracks each of us from cradle to grave.

I know that Ace will scoff at this, but it did cause these people some serious difficulties. I am one of those crazy libertarians who honestly believes that problems experienced by people on the fringe of society act as "canaries in the coal mine" in terms of detecting potential problems for the rest of us.

With the exception of obtaining a passport, the issue of identifying citizens has traditionally fallen to the States. With respect to transsexuals, state law governs whether and at what stage they are regarded under their reassigned sex, and if the federal government took up this responsibility the constitutionality of any enabling legislation would be questionable. What is it about national I.D. cards that implicates interstate commerce? Nothing, really.

I have seen the argument made that a national I.D. card is only one small baby step from a SSN, but this does not strike me as a persuasive argument that the benefits of a national I.D. system outweigh its potential costs to individual liberty.

We must outlaw birth certificates at once!

I just feel bad for transgendered people...I'm sorry...they are so confused and then they suffer so much humiliation and embarassment. Ic court today a Defendant was referred to as her male name, her female name in quotes, and then her last name...like Michael aka "Michelle" Smith. I think she wanted to crawl under the table and die. Somewhat cruel to be addressed that way in front of a courtroom full of people, regardless if we were all thinking it or not, IMO.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
