Why Won't the Right Concede Any Errors? [Ace]

Andrew Sullivan is for once worth reading; or rather, one of his emailers is.

No, the email doesn't call him the most influential man in the history of the world, nor praise him for his bravery:

They [the Bush-hating left] will take a contrarian position no matter what the topic. They will lie and distort their own past stated positions, The ends justify the means, and all. The same people who claim to have been for the Afghanistan action in order to justify their exceptional opposition to the Iraq action were, for the most part, against Afghanistan. They lie with ease; they don't want us to win anything; they want America to be publicly chastened, especially by our European intellectual 'superiors'. Conceding anything to this crowd, right or wrong, feels like it will lead to giving them something they don't deserve, the higher ground, and, worse, carte blanche to take us back to a pre-911 ostrich-like security strategy.

I think that's on the right track. I think it's pretty clear that the Iraq occupation has not gone as we'd all hoped.

And yet-- my own personal admission of that fact tends to be grudging and sporadic.

When a child does nothing but whine and scream, one becomes less interested in addressing each and every one of the baby's complaints, even if there are a few valid ones mixed in with the constant screeching.

Update: Boy from Troi now rips Andrew a new one, too.

The "excitable Andrew" meme has really taken off. I'm glad that everyone's now seeing through this twit, but I'm also a little saddened that my raison d'etre (a French term meaning "hatred of excitable hacks") has been so broadly swiped.

Ace:

I ripped Andy a new one the other day. Check it out.

"Iraq occupation has not gone as we'd all hoped"

Compared to what? Some fantasy of wrapping everything up in 13 weeks so as to not compete with the summer reruns on the WB? Every deadline that has been made months in advance (for example, the handover of power to the interim gov't, or yesterdays's election) has been carried out on or ahead of schedule. The problem was listening to people like Excitable Andy who had unreasonable expectations in the first place, and now letting him set the terms of the discussion.

We'd all hoped? I hoped Saddam and Osama would be vaporized together on live TV on day 1. What we expected? I at least expected a range of outcomes, of which the current situation isn't anywhere near the "bad" end.

In fact, given the simple visceral understanding of democracy displayed by those "too Islamic to vote" folks yesterday, I'd say the fundamentals are pretty damned good.

If it makes you feel any better, Ace, I first came to your blog for Paul Anka but I stayed for the gratuitious Sullivan bashing. You will always be an OG Sully Hata in my eyes.

With regard to the Iraq Occupation, I anticipated that it would be much worse than it has turned out to be. For all the whining in the press, and elsewhere, from reading history I honestly thought the 'resistance' would be much better organized and competent than it was.

As for admitting mistakes...well, half of what the left is calling mistakes weren't. They were judgement calls that time has shown not to be the right decision - and that's Monday Morning Quarterbacking. The way to deal with that sort of 'mistake' is to analyse why the decision was wrong, and what clues might have helped you avoid the decision. Carping and screaming "NO WMD's!" is not helpful. So trying to discuss it openly hasn't been too easy.

The other half come under the heading of politics, and the best you're ever going to get in that field is a determination not to repeat the mistakes.

Unless, of course, you're a Democrat discussing education or social policy, in which case, you will say, "Well, that didn't work, so let's do it some more!"

SWlip's post on Andy really does tear him a new one. And he makes a point that I keep repeating:
Liberals are cowards. Because they have no faith in God, they are scared of life. If this life was all there was, it would make sense to try to hold on tight to it, and screw everyone else. And to cover up their cowardice (especially to themselves) they turn on the daddy figure who won't slap them silly when they kick him in the shin. They really have allowed the terrorists to "get into their heads" and are, well, terrified of the future.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
