Dawn of the Dead

Saw the remake last night. Scared me to death.

The dictionary definition of "zombie" speaks of the dead come back to life, will-less, in trancelike states. Automatons. In the old movies, they moved like Bob Shrums. Slow, lifeless, but inexorable.

Not these new guys. Look at the one up on the left. He's gearing up for a sprint to the barbecue.

The bastards move like Renaldo Nehemiah.

And when they eat Judy Woodruff. . .

Hoo boy. Very scary.

Them were some fast zombies. I love horror flicks, but seeing those guys move like that gave me the crawling scrotum feeling I associate with being truly creeped out. Awesome soundtrack. Opening with Cash was the best way they could have gone.

I also liked the fact that the "bad" character developed into something different.

And the taboo of what they did with the Russian woman.

Oh my Lord.

Golly yes Mr. Ace, zombies are way scarey. Strangely fascinating though. Perhaps dislike of zombies is something democrats and republicans can agree on. Nah, on second thought I'm sure democrats would say we're zombiephobes and want to secede. We certainly won't permit that though! Not even if they beg us to relocate them to northern Greenland.

Dude, taking it all the way back to Renaldo Nehemiah!! That's all right. Seriously all right.

And now I'm going to Blockbuster based solely on your review.

Posted by: Birkel on November 6, 2004 11:49 AM

First seen them souped up zombies when "28 days" came out. Very scary...

Posted by: greeblie on November 6, 2004 11:59 AM

Funny picture - persons in charge of make-up and continuity on that pic should be ashamed - notice the total lack of decay and zombification on the frontmost dudes belly.

Posted by: on November 6, 2004 12:04 PM

Is it me or does that dude look like Kevin Bacon?

Oooohh, zombie Footloose! Now THAT'S a movie idea!

Posted by: lauraw on November 6, 2004 12:24 PM

...Renaldo Nehemiah

LOL!

Posted by: on November 6, 2004 12:30 PM

In pic two there's a guy in a black hoodie!!! At last, a voter influenced by emmy-nem.

And here I thought that dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks video had no impact on the electorate.

Posted by: BrendaK on November 6, 2004 01:04 PM

Is that David Letterman in the black hood?

Posted by: Dittybopper on November 6, 2004 01:21 PM

Excellent! I'm kinda shocked how few people saw the remake (not so much the original). It was a very good movie, scary tho a bit gory. I just went apeshit and bought the directors cut, as well as the "Ultimate Edition" 4-DVD disk set of the original. Zombie-licious!

If you haven't seen one or the other, see 'em. They kick ass.

Posted by: mcgurk on November 6, 2004 01:26 PM

People always ask me what's up with owning assault rifles. I point them to zombie movies. They're not horror flicks; I see them more as training videos.

Posted by: Moonbat_One on November 6, 2004 03:08 PM

Be sure to check out the fake newscast in the DVD extras. It's a lot like election night, with the rapidly reddening map and stricken newscasters and everything. I made some "jokes" about it here.

Posted by: Jim Treacher on November 6, 2004 03:47 PM

ha, Renaldo Nehemiah, that fucker broke his legs like every week, his bones were made out of freakin balsa wood.

Posted by: manute bolls on November 6, 2004 10:48 PM

It was okay, but the ending in the credits sucks major ass. That and Utah wuld have survived. The Mormons have a strong survivalist streak.

Zombie movie fan here.
Liked the original, loved the remake.
Something missing in zombie movies w/o Bruce Campbell.

Go see 'Shaun of the Dead'. Funny and gory - What a combo!

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.

Politico is reporting that multiple people have abruptly resigned from Eric Swalwell's gubernatorial campaign: "Members of senior leadership have departed the campaign, including Courtni Pugh, a strategic adviser who served as Swalwell's top liaison to organized labor groups."

So the campaign is collapsing due to the truth of the sexual harassment allegations.
That hissing sound you hear is the air going out of the Swalwell campaign. UPDATE: No it wasn't, it was just Swalwell one-cheek-sneaking out a fart on camera
