The Phantom Tourist: First Cambodia, now Iraq?I can't believe this can be true. If Kerry has once again lied about his James-Bond-by-way-of-Walter-Mitty globe-trotting, this campaign is over. Note: Captain Ed's post begins by expressing doubt that Kerry made this claim. An update confirms he did-- I actually happened to watch O'Reilly for once and I saw the repeat of this interview this past week. The only question is whether he actually was in Iraq when he said he was, and it appears, at least based on his Senate voting, that he wasn't. posted by Ace at 04:30 PM
CommentsSomeone who is much at this sort of thing than me should put out a take on that Johnny Cash song that is used in an ad. Goes "I've been everywhere man" and then lists all of the cities. Insert some of Kerry's claims and in that nice Bostson accent... Posted by: Skinny Benny on September 25, 2004 04:44 PM
The quote on CQ is: "I mean, I was in Safwan. I went there when the signing of the armistice took place at the end of the war." I don't see how this can be twisted to mean he went there after the armistice / ceasefire was signed. Which means he entered Iraq before the agreement was signed. (Safwan is an Iraqi airfield.) Somehow I doubt Gen Schwarzkopf permitted a sitting Senator to enter a war zone before hostilities ended. Posted by: conelrad on September 25, 2004 05:10 PM
What a pack of losers. Why don't you parse this one: "I saw the first plane hit on TV, and thought 'gosh, what a terrible pilot'." But there was no existing video of the first plane at the time! Think he was lying about that one? Maybe it was a coke-fueled memory lapse...judging from the last press conference those still seem to be happening... How about, "I fulfilled my service and was honorably discharged." How about producing ONE guy from his unit in Alabama who'll step up and remember him -- not a stooge CO who can't get his dates straight, not a dentist -- I mean ONE GUY WHO SERVED WITH HIM. Right. Didn't think so. If you've got this much time to turn over any rock in a desperate attempt to find a liar, you're ignoring the treasure right under your noses. God Bless America! Ace: Kerry may not have been where he says he was. Mercury: BUSH LIED! Par for the course. Dickhead. Posted by: Jeff G on September 25, 2004 05:46 PM
Don't forget his claim to have gone to visit Arafat almost immediately after 9/11/2001. That needs vetting, and if really true . . . . . Posted by: recon on September 25, 2004 05:49 PM
Wahh! Poor little Jeff G. Doesn't wanna believe that Dubya could ever, ever tell a fib! Save the second-grade insults for someone who'll give a shit about them. Kerry may not have been where he said he was? I'll believe it when you folks PROVE it, which the track record suggests is NEVER. You guys try and try and try to paint Kerry as a liar but the best you have is your own weak-ass spin and distortion of the man's words, as in the pathetic Swift Boat Winter Soldiers ad, where they conventiently LOP OFF THE FIRST PART OF HIS STATEMENT! Oh. Sure. Meanwhile, Bush gets a free pass in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary -- at least the evidence that doesn't keep getting mysteriously lost or burned in those crazy archive fires that keep cropping up. No Jeff G, it's only par for the course if you like being constantly conned and lied to by your Fearless Leader, who tells folks like you to your grinning face how much he supports the troops while at the very same time he's cutting Vets' benefits and hazard pay. Try ignoring memogate for awhile and doing some research on that one, I double-dog-dare you. Right. Par for the course? I say it's bullshit. Posted by: mercury on September 25, 2004 06:07 PM
How many times does it have to be proved? I don't think Kerry has claimed he visited Mercury, at least. So you are safe on that one. Posted by: robert on September 25, 2004 06:41 PM
Clearly the demise of his candidate is starting to get to mercury. Posted by: KnightHawk on September 25, 2004 06:42 PM
Hey Mercury: Wanna guess why your "war hero" won't sign a form DD-180 to release his military records? Answer that before more trash talking. Posted by: The Old Coot on September 25, 2004 07:00 PM
MERCURY The Democrats and the MSM have tried to prove "Bush lied" about his TANG service since 1994 - still no luck. It drives them crazy and has become a destructive liberal quest that has ruined careers in the past, and will in the future - but not Bush's. Now the Prez does lie, but they are thematic lies. His tax cuts for the richest Americans are recast as tax cuts that he only wanted, not for his fatcat cronies, but the "poor suffering little Mom&Pop small business owners". His pollyannish Iraq forecasts are BS in many ways. His "Religion of Peace" blather and "They hate us for our freedoms" masks what he knows to be true - a religion that tolerates headchoppers, not infidel scum - and who hate us for our policies, not because bin Laden read a copy of our Bill of Rights one day. But the Democrats tell the same sort of lies for the interests they whore for, so no distinction exists. What separates the candidates is your man's proclivity for 2 other sorts of lies. Contradictory lies, and pure factual lies. Kerry is the gift that keeps on giving to the Republicans - and who has done more to damage his Party and the status of the MSM that knee-jerk defends any liberal Democrat - than any candidate since McGovern. With contradictory lies, Kerry shows it by 180 Degreeing reversals of his stands on multiple issues, sometimes in the same week. If he believes one way, then goes another, at least one of his statements is a lie unless he has given thoughtful reconsideration to a particular stance. Given the number of issues that Kerry has windsurfed in different directions - it is unlikely that they represent, for the most part thoughtful reconsideration - just mostly Kerry lies. If you say he doesn't lie because he doesn't believe in anything but John Kerry, I submit both parts of his issue contradiction dilemmas are in fact lies. His factual errors - from Vietnam to anti-war to the Senate to his personal life are still accumulating, multiplying. He hasn't debunked any of the 60 SwiftVet's allegations, but admitted about 12 were fibs and disputed another 6 charges. Right now, he has hundreds of lies he has been caught in floating out there. And many will not get MSM or voter attention. And that is damning on Kerry because people judge his many lies of expediency - as non-newsworthy because they are expected from Kerry. But catching Bush in a lie, something the voters and media don't expect - would be huge news! The truth is that the voters and media see Bush as willing to put out political BS, but not contradict himself on issues or put out outright lies since he adheres to Christian ethics - but they see Kerry as a unethical man who has no problem lying on a host of fronts to advance John Kerry. And they vote in 5 weeks on the integrity and honesty of each candidate. Major deciding factors.

Guys, I'm thinking of voting for Kerry just so we won't have to hear about these liberals throwing themselves under bus wheels and off of tall buildings for the next four years. I'm looking at it as a humanitarian vote. What do you think? Posted by: Johnny Walker Red on September 25, 2004 07:15 PM
Hey mercury, maybe you should do some research of your own instead of believing everything you read from some left wing site... 1)"I saw the first plane hit on TV, and thought 'gosh, what a terrible pilot'." Where the heck did you get this quote from?? Are you saying this was a Bush quote? 2) "I fulfilled my service and was honorably discharged." By military records this is indisputably true. BTW, I know EVERY officer I served with on active duty; but I can't remember one from my short stint in the Reserves (with the exception of the few I knew through work). 3) "Cutting Vets benefits and hazard pay". Golly, it's obvious you don't have a clue what you're talking about... in the military it's called HazardOUS DUTY pay not hazard pay; and this wasn't the pay that was NEVER gonna be cut. It was imminent danger pay that might have had to be cut because it was not properly budgeted for by Congress. The Pentagon was simply playing a game of showdown with Congress (which obviously worked as no pay was ever cut). Of course, based on the tone of your responses, my comments are probably a waste of typing; you have no desire to look at these issues objectively. Posted by: JFH on September 25, 2004 07:37 PM
Johnny Walker, if they want to leave America or shrug off their earthly coils just because of an election, I'm PRO-CHOICE. Posted by: lauraw on September 25, 2004 07:41 PM

Having followed Jeff's website for some time now, I think it's safe to say that Jeff, like Ace and Bill at INDCjournal, and Captain Ed, and the Powerline Guys, and, maybe InstaReynolds, are pretty much plodding literalists, Jeff G. moreso than most. Kerry said he was in Safwan, but he didn't say whether he was *in Safwan* physically, or in a metaphorical sense, or, possibly, even by proxy. Kerry may have granted plenipotentiary powers to a staff member of his and, thus, was *in* Safwan without actually being *in* Safwan. The point being is that Kerry should be allowed to be Kerry, in all his Kerryness without regard to the concerns of the hoi polloi. In the meantime, I think Jeff and Mercury should hug ... weaponized nipples notwithstanding. Posted by: BumperStickerist on September 25, 2004 08:32 PM
how funny is it that, given kerry's attendance records in the senate, he is getting busted on lying because he actually *showed up* for work that day. i mean, he had what, seventy percent of the year to work with? Posted by: francisthegreat on September 25, 2004 08:55 PM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
