« Burkett: "I Warned CBS To Authenticate Docs, and That They Might Not Be Real" | Main | Why Give CBS Ratings When You Can Watch It on the Internet? »
September 21, 2004

Who is Lucy Ramirez?

USAToday reports:

In interviews in recent days with USA TODAY, both in person and on the phone, Burkett said he had merely been a conduit for the records purported to be from the private files of Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, one of Bush's former Guard commanders, who died in 1984. Burkett admitted lying to USA TODAY about the source of the documents but said he did not fabricate the papers.

In earlier conversations with USA TODAY, Burkett had identified the source of the documents as George Conn, a former Texas National Guard colleague who works for the U.S. Army in Europe. Burkett now says he made up the story about Conn's involvement to divert attention from himself and the woman he now says provided him with the documents. He told USA TODAY that he also lied to CBS.

Burkett now maintains that the source of the papers was Lucy Ramirez, who he says phoned him from Houston in March to offer the documents. USA TODAY has been unable to locate Ramirez.

When Burkett gave copies of the documents to USA TODAY, it was on the understanding that his identity would not be disclosed. USA TODAY honored that agreement until Burkett waived his confidentiality Monday.

Let's note straight off the bat that Burkett's word is worth about as much as CBS stock options. Whether or not "Lucy Ramirez" even exists, or, if she does exist, whether she had anything to do with these documents is not confirmed-- only Burkett's saying so.

Update-- What Is "Lucy Ramirez"?: RD Brewer thinks it's not so much a person as an anagram-- for "crazy rum lie."

Edited: I originally did a yahoo search and found someone in Texas with some Democratic connection called "Lucy Ramirez." I stated specifically that I had no idea if this was the Lucy Ramirez, and further noted that there are actually a lot of Lucy Ramierezes around.

However, as it seems more and more likely that "Lucy Ramirez" is just a crazy rum lie after all, there seems to me no point in even mentiong this Lucy Ramirez or that one. So I've deleted the reference to the Lucy Ramirez I stumbled across.

I shouldn't have even mentioned it at all, and I apologize for doing so.

Note that Daily Kos thinks the Congressman is GOP, so darkly hints this make be the Rove connection.

I'm guessing it isn't the right person, but if it is, what are the odds Kos will "correct' his remarks to darkly hint that this shows the connection to the DNC?

I am in San Antonio and I assure you, in Texas you can't throw a dead cat without hitting a Lucy Ramirez.

:) Another Texas saying for you. I particularly like it. Sort of macabre.

The idiots at Kos are in a full lather about Lucy as well. I am sure she is one of those "race traitor" hispanics the anti-racist activists on Kos talk about so often. Smell the hypocrisy.

Lucy Ramirez. She's a good friend of an aquaintance of mine, Bender Bending Rodriguez. Lives right next to Frito Bandito.

The 15th district is nowhere NEAR Houston. Nice try, Kos.

Kos is an idiot. Hinojosa is a 4-term D.

"Lucy Ramirez" is just an anagram for "crazy rum lie." There is no such person. Burkett is creating another false lead here because he is 1) a rummy, and 2) he is now running interference for the DNC--the place where he did get the forgeries.

In addition, I suspect "Lucy Ramirez" is Burkett's pet name for Terry McCauliffe with whom he has an occasional "sleepover."

Lucy, you have some splaining to do.

Too bad Martha Stewart didn't use the Rather defense "I made a mistake. Now let's move on"

Burnett misspoke. He meant Lucy Arnez.

Lucy Ramirez is the Mexican actress who plays fiery producer Maria Tostada on the popular telenovela El Gran Ojo Mentiroso.

Who is Lucy Ramirez? PollDock.com has a good time line as does another sight for Rathergate. Add Clinton/Gore to the mix of dates....news reports and dates when Kerry got "advice" from Clinton, Clinton's surgery, comments after surgery, Clinton's "people" sent to help Kerry campaign, and then comments from Clintons after CBS story hit. Google the names involved so far....group them by two's and get creative. There IS a Lucy Ramirez linked to Democratic Party and several of these names. Start with Clinton and Ruben Hinojosa (he's a democrat). It gets interesting and could be coinsidence, hmmmm....I'm up to my chin with "hits" to research. Only 2 things I can think of would make Rather put his reputation, ect on the line by not proclaiming Guard pages "forgeries" (which would mean he couldn't really protect the source if he actually said they were forgeries, nence his hedging) - implication of his daughter Robin Rather or the Kerry Campaign/Democratic Party for both his reputation and legal problems. Everything CBS is doing takes the focus off Rather and onto Mapes who will most likely take the fall and investigation into how CBS was duped will never dig to see who made the forgeries.

Lost Seventies Mystery Click: The Darkest Song Ever Recorded?
I think Professor of Rock (on YouTube) claimed this song was so upsetting that people used to pull over to the side of the road when it came on the radio. It's about a fatal plane crash, but obviously it suggests a fatal car crash too, which could wig out a driver.
It's like one of those nasty 70s anti-war body horror movies. Not for the squeamish. I'm not even going to post the lyrics because they're upsetting too.

I'm frankly surprised the title is 107 Days. I would have thought it would be:

Days Are Important: The Amount of Days Was a Number and That Number Was 100 Plus 7 Which is 107. 107. One Hundred and Seven. It's a Memoir and Memoirs are About Remembering Things Because Remembering Things is Good. Not Bad. Good. Memoir. A Memoir. Like a Reservoir But With Memory. We Have to Let it Flow. We Have to Let It Flow Into the Reservoir of Our Mind and Our Heart. Our Heart Which is the Beating Heart of Not Just Our Blood, But Our Progress. And Our People. And Democracy. The End.

Former CIA operative John Kiriakou talks with Matt Taibbi about the Brennan/Comey Coup
Both guys are old liberals, maybe even of the far-left variety, and both are appalled by the Democrat/Deep State coup against the US. Kiriakou says that CIA officers were legally obligated to report to the Inspector General John Brennan's repeated overruling of actual intelligence to encode his partisan conspiracy theories into US intel product, but of course they didn't.
