CBS News: Democrats "Increasingly Optimistic" About Kerry's Chances

Kausfiles used to have quite a bit of fun with the LA Times' liberal-coccoon wishful thinking, always claiming that Gray Davis' advisors were "increasingly optimistic" about trouncing Schwarzenegger.

Kausfiles had big funny the day after Schwarzenegger replaced Davis, easily winning the run-off, and Davis easily losing the recall; Kausfiles speculated that the LA Times headline would be, Davis Recalled; Schwarzenegger Elected Governor; Davis' Aides "Increasingly Optimistic."

Well, CBS News has got nothing on the LA Times.

GALLUP: Bush leads Kerry by 14 points in three-way matchup, building upon his big convention bounce.

CBS News:

Despite turmoil in the John Kerry campaign, key Democrats believe Kerry is back on-message and poised to overtake President Bush by Election Day. Following two weeks of Kerry campaign reorganization, optimism flourishes among Democratic insiders.

Veteran Democratic strategists agree that John Kerry had a poor August, was off message and allowed President Bush to drive the momentum of the campaign. That’s ending, in party veterans’ view.

While the cohesiveness of the Democratic campaign remains in question, Kerry’s coming turn around does not among many party veterans. They believe the Kerry campaign has sufficiently restructured and is now on track.

The liberal media has to understand something: they may think they're helping their liberal heroes, and to some small extent they are, but this sort of obvious boosterism also hurts the liberal candidates they're trying to get elected.

LA Times was quoting Gray Davis campaign insiders as increasingly optimistic all the way until the day of the recall election. We now have Arnold as governor.

Actually, they were only just this morning crowing how (paraphrased) 'the race has tightened again and Bush's lead has evaporated.'

Memo to pollsters: you can't poll in the midst of a major political realignment, because all your basic assumptions about sampling are toast.

This is what happens when you are as insular, incurious, and sheltered as Democrats. When you replace ideas and debate with shibboleths and platitudes, you have nowhere to go but down.

They are never exposed to those who do not think the way they do; they always give the worst motives to those who disagree with them (thus obviating their need to take the alternative argument seriously); and they seem incapable of believing or comprehending that the majority of people could not like what they posit.

One would think that the election debacle of the last three openly liberal presidential candidates (McGovern (61% Nixon), Mondale (59% Reagan), Dukakis (53% Bush)) would at least plant the seeds of introspection...but no, they learned nothing.

It's the fault of the people; they're too stupid to comprehend your greatness. It is always they, not you, who are the problem.

I was searching for a photo or animated gif of Sonny Corleone beating the shit out of Connie's husband.

I thought that would be good.

Or the money shot from some cheap porn movie played over and over to underscore that Kerry is screwed. Now THAT'S nuanced.

Posted by: Dacotti on September 17, 2004 02:20 AM

Back on message? There is a message (besides "I was in Viet Nam, Bush wasn't, so there!"? Have I missed something?

I've read a lot of "messages", mostly contradicting each other (I agree we should take don Saddam, I just don't want to send more than twenty cents for it), but no single one stands out except the above.

I'm a life-long Republican, but I deplore the loss of the "opposition" party. How did it go from "Give 'em Hell Harry" to "Give 'em everything and apologize Kerry"???

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
